It is very tempting but even if I take one it will not be soon, maybe next year.If I had not bought CSL Elite eight months ago I would order it right away.
I am happy I gave up PC-gaming. With a PC I would have spent at least 5x more on my rig then what i spent now. I am happy I am restricted by a console ecosystem... saves me time and money:lol:.. Still curious about the first reviews though! I wonder if lower torque would influence the fidelity.

The only reason I want a DD too is for the extra detail and lack of latency everybody is raving about!

You are already getting a ton of latency and input lag on a console. Which part of the reason why a DD wheel is a bit overkill for consoles. Forced V-Sync in console games and the high input lag in most TV's is to blame. And I'm not even sure if the current generation of console's have enough overhead left in the CPU to handle the extra resolution and detail required by the games physics engine to take full advantage of a DD wheel.

You are mostly right, but a DD would reduce that input lag again. And I think a "ton" is a little bit exaggerated. Modern console and TV have quite low input lag. Just not as little as a PC+ monitor.

When I used to drive on a screen using no V-sync, yuck. I honestly don’t know how people put up with the horrific screen tearing, it actually felt less responsive like that to me because of the screen not updating evenly.

I know some people said to use no vsync and then set a framerate cap to match your screen refresh but screen tearing was just as bad, with FreeSync/gsync sure but on a standard screen, nope!

I’ll also take the picture quality and contrast ratios of a high end TV over the poor ones of monitors and LCD panels.

My 2016 7-series Samsung TV has the lowest input lag (in game-mode) of any TV on the market. Yet the difference between driving GT Sport on the TV and my gaming monitor is night and day. The game controls feels much, much faster and responsive on the gaming monitor. The picture quality of the TV is better I admit, but anyone looking for a clear competetive advantage better go for a monitor.

At least one SW12C+ was delivered:

For some reason, I wasn't aware there was a 12nm wheel coming too. That looks awesome. Might be the perfect size, too. Post more impressions once you've put it through its paces.

Is the control box any smaller than normal? Or is it big like the other OSW wheels? You don't happen to have something like a kill-a-watt, do you? Would love to know what the average wattage of that wheel is. I'm assuming it's less than the bigger wheels, but it'd be cool to know.

So you couldnt resist temptation ;) Or is it 2019 already without me knowing? Give us a review here when you have had some time on it!

How was the software setup? Very complicated?

Guys I'm sorry about the confusion but this wheel is not mine.

The idea of the Compact line is to be user friendly and very easy to setup! Plug n Play!
I also read all the comments. Is this a plug and play DD wheel? (with some setup tweaking etc). After reading I'm confused. It seems not very reliable/stable yet - and that's probably because of the very new first release of this dd wheel? If I misread my apologies.
Also it seems that the owner of this wheel cannot download software that's needed with this wheel. He has to wait for a 1hr config session and then the SW is yours? Is that a way of service or is the product too complex to config it yourself?

That's not how I prefer this. I like a more out of the box kit and with some knowledge have it up and running and then learn from other users how they set it up for different sims like AC(C), R3E, Rf2, PCars2

Is this off topic?:

I'm also in to buy/pre-order a DD wheel. Fanatec DD is my favorite right now. Yes it is only on paper for us and the devs know already more. Ease of use, eco system, 'no hassle' hopefully. con: availability 4 (?) months. Impatient me has some money burning in his hands....
Now in the phase of watching a lot of YT video's. I would like to see some recent, vendor neutral vids from the experts who compare the different DD wheels. SRGarage, Simpit, GamerMuscle, SimracinhgPaddock, Simracing604, (you name it and I probably forgot some). Suggestions?

Simucube? Simexperience? Fanatec? All around €1000 and don't forget the SUMMER18 promo ;) Others will follow?
Sim-plicity? seems like a 28 day delayed leadtime because of some last minute technical challenges? (again correct me if I'm wrong)

Do we have a general DD forum thread to discuss this? Or point me a DD rookie in the right direction to other DD forums please
(already on RD, R3E, AC). You see I have a lot of questions and hopefully they will be ansdwered so I and all of us can make the right decision soonish :D

No.

No,if you have questions feel free to ask here.:)

It would be interesting to know, but for now because the wheel is new no one knows the answer.

I always thought the one hour session was just some nice bonus thrown in there for people who weren't technically inclined. It'd be crazy if things are so convoluted you're not allowed to download the software until you've done a session. Just seems hard to believe. Surely a FAQ would be preferable by most and would save him a lot of time (only having to deal with more advanced problems).

Beats the purpose of plug and play. That makes the Fanatec package a lot more interesting in my opinion.

What I know is that the wheel is made Plug N Play with different software - it is more customer/user friendly... Every customer have 1 hour session for helping with the wheel setup etc... that doesn`t mean that this wheel setup takes 1 hour... in that hour you will have answers on all your questions etc.. I don`t know about waiting for drivers to be downloaded...what I know is that every customer will receive help and support if he needs,,, in fact this 1 hour session for every new customer is unprecedented in gaming hardware companies!
About the 28th day delivery option - this helps them to plan batches...it can be seen in all their wheels purchase page.

True, but to be honest if you need 1 hour instructions it almost certainly is far from plug and play. It doesnt mean the company or the product is bad though.

That hour is personal attention that company gives to you by its CEO. This comes from other not Compact wheels and continues here...it will be friendly talk exploring all options and answers will be given on your questions...this is not 1 hour setup in the meaning of setup.

Again i am not saying the service is bad at all. But is the 1 hour optional or neccesary?

If you cant setup without that hour with the CEO, then it just is not plug and play as you said.

Nobody will force you to have 1 hour session I believe! If you don`t want/ need it - you will not have it! I don`t believe that they give you software only after this session...it is against every customer protection laws!;)

I am not criticizing the company here. But can you set the software up without any help? Can i just plug in the wheel, download and install drivers and start playing immediately with standard setup? Previously i have heard/read that Directdrive are not easy to setup at all and needs a lot of configuration.

That is the exactly idea of the Compact line - it comes plug n play and with standart installed setup you can use it. Also comes with extra plate as you can see in the pics which have the holes of all major wheel brands - this is to make it ready for every cockpit. The main idea this line to pop up is to be user friendly for the mass consumer. I really hope to have one soon and to explain you from my experience.;)

After reading above that 1 hour can be seen as service. Very good and hope more companies will follow.
When reading the reddit topics you only get the software during the 1:1 chat with the CEO. Maybe he does this for the first 5-10 customers to be sure that the first deliveries and installations/setup are 100% and that the users have an excellent 'customer experience' and will share these findings with us the community.

I cannot imagine that the CEO himself, when sales will increase, always will do a personal Q&A on the longer term (might be wrong?).

Would like to see the complete HW+SW delivered/download and if needed I have the possibility to have a chat with someone of Sim-plicity.

Don't get me wrong I seriously hope also this start up company will succeed. I'm not biased and try not to be negative, but now I read the comments in the topic again (simracing/comments/94vl23) and it seems that already delivered units have to be sent back?

1.) Or I will first wait before buying until others share their hopefully positive first results of their new Simplicity setup,
2.) Attend the Fanatec auction soonish or pre-order later, with the risk not to be in the 1st batch of deliveries begin Dec (if they can and will meet that date?)
3.) Buy a more expensive but proven DD wheel? Although Accuforce with the summer discount is tempting. Would like to see a regional e.g. Benelux reseller. Or the Simucube?

Choices, choices

Edit:

If you're in the same boat this "July 2018 Buyers Guide video" can be helpful. Good info from this friendly gentleman. Looks like he knows what he's talking about and 'vendor neutral'.

I would go for option 4.) Patiently wait till the first reviews of the Fanatec DD, FeelVR , Simplicity OSW wheels can be compared to each other.
That way you wont have regrets. Just stick with your setup for now. I am confident Fanatec will break open the market and OSW wheels will probably lose out on the consumer marke. A plug and play package is just way more interesting for a consumer.

You sound like my wife (haha no offense I love her too)...patience and Brian is like water and fire...Next step forme is to participate in the Fanatec auction. If not succesfull I'll probably preorder a DD1 and wait, and wait

Dont know what to say with your declaration of love.... But I am already happily married!

But kidding aside... Why not buy a new (cheaper) gadget or toy to fill up the rest of 2018. I bought myself a DJI osmo gimbal to start learning to make cinematic videos with just my iPhone. I also have €€€ of photography gear I can pick up if I ever get GAS again. When i get bored of simracing and gaming, I go back to photography and visa versa. Perhaps invest in another hobby till the Fanatec DD is released?
