If you haven't heard Square Enix have announced a game called Sleeping Dogs which is about a undercover police officer who must gain the Triads trust by maintaining his cover and acting like the criminals as mush as possible. The game will take place in Hong Kong and will be released in the 2nd half of 2012. The game is being developed by United Front Games.

Here is an awesome live-action trailer for the game:

If this all seems familiar to you already then it probably is. This game was originally meant to be called True Crime: Hong Kong and was supposed to be published by Activision until they cancelled the game. This lead Square Enix to pick up the rights of the game but not the rights to the True Crime franchise which lead to the name change.

That was a pretty badass trailer, might need to put this game on my watchlist!

Machinima just released an interview for Sleeping Dogs. There is a small amount of gameplay in the video.

It looks pretty good so far.

Dayum that's an awesome trailer~Movie plz :D

The game looks nice as well, a sandbox that's taken stuff from Assassin's creed, Arkham series, a little of uncharted it appears (to me anyway) can't be bad :3

^It's still a game engine from 2005!

I am glad it didn't die off, sounded and looked too good. Loved the first True Crime, second was meh.

I've been following this game since the beginning as True Crime HK. I had my reservations then and I especially felt the depiction of HK left a lot to be desired especially when they were aiming for AAA GTA territory.

I hope Square can polish it up (it needs a lot of polish!) and rework it rather than just release the game under a new name, they have had years and years now to make it good. I wonder how it will fair without the True Crime bit to peddle it along.

Is this an early-early beta? What's up with the graphics?

Your seeing the graphics of what was a ready to ship game!, yeah I know... that's probably why Activision pulled the plug. It looks like Stranglehold which came out years before they even started dev'ing this!

For those who didn't see the earlier stuff, here are some of the trailers released over the years, pity most of it was CGI, especially the environment shots. Has so much potential to be an excellent game and also its great to see an open world set outside the US for a change (as well as Yakuza).

I've recently started following this game and I think it looks awesome, with driving, shootouts and lots of customisation. The title doesn't have too much hype so I think it just might be my favourite game of 2012.

I think this game may deserve some more consumer attention, but I guess it's hard to do if it's not set in te U.S.

I pre-ordered my copy yesterday :)

OP needs to update thread title, this game deserves some more attention.

It sucks that open world game developers are often too scared to do a city outside of the US because it might not sell well. Jeez I'm so sick of LA, been done for the millionth time in GTA5.

This games premise and story sound good but the graphics aren't that hot because they are of a game which was supposed to have come out years ago, Activision canned the games release because they didn't think it was good enough.

Looking at Resident Evil 6 and its city Lanshiang (which is also Hong Kong) the graphics are unbelievable. I hope Sleeping Dogs reviews well.

The GTA V setting that you mentioned is a very good example; Rockstar North are based in Scotland. :grumpy:

The driving trailer looked alright; (I may be wrong so anybody feel free to correct me) it looked like the game was built on the RAGE engine.

The old True Crime gamers were decent but very flawed, I'll probably wait until this one is heavily reduced to buy it.

Eh? The thread title is the name of the game, what more do you want?

 Did you really need to ask? The thread title needs something added that grabs attention, not many will recognise what kind of game this is just by seeing "Sleeping Dogs"; I didn't when I first saw it.

I read that vehicles will all be customisable, and that there are a number of dealerships from which vehicles can be bought, and when purchased vehicles are then sorted into categories.
In terms of vehicular focus this game seems pretty good, but it kinda sucks that hi-jacked vehicles can't be saved though.

I then found confirmation that there is no car customisation, I subsequently cancelled my pre-order and planned to play Gran Turismo 5 and GTA; EFLC until GTA V or another good driving title is released.

Still not sure why they dropped the True Crime name and changed it to Sleeping Dogs. :boggled:
I enjoyed the True Crime games and I love sandbox games so I will at least rent this.

I know I am going to get this, but will wait for a price drop. It's going to have an excellent and unique environment, and the combat looks cool

UFG looks like they made some major improvements since it was last shown earlier in the year.. It looks like a different game from its True Crime days... I'm kind of happy Activision scrapped it because it looks so much better after Square Enix took over.. Even if the name is a bit weird. I really hope this game is a success for UFG and Square because it looks great.

Also early reviews are looking good.
