Actually the review confirmed 14-20 hours total.

Reviewer Log's only real quibble is that it's a little short by open world standards, at 14 hours in length (update: complete all the inessential stuff, and you're looking at around 20).

Again, 20 hours is a very short sandbox experience. Almost all the other sandbox games average around 100+ hours to complete everything.

In that case, wow, that's not great. Deus Ex: Human Revolution kept me going for about 35 hours on my playthrough, that's the last open world (ish) sandbox (ish) game I've played. Still, 20 hours would be worth £10-15 to me I think and I bet I wouldn't have to wait long for the PC price to drop that far.

Yes I personally would wait. The price of this game will drop extremly fast once people realize how short it is. I am just going to rent it.
I still have Saints Row 3 which IMO is THE best sandbox game that exists. I also still have Crackdown 2 which is also very fun. But SR3 is as good as it gets in terms of sandbox games. Nothing else comparable especially since SR3 is a full co-op campaign with full customization.

True, SR3 is great but I prefer Just Cause 2 myself, there has never been a better combination than the grappling hook and parachute! I haven't tried SR3 online, though, maybe I will when I get back into it for the DLC. There is the JC2 Multiplayer mod, though, that could swing things back in it's favour depending on just how good it is when it's finished. Then again that depends on you being a PC player, so.

I agree JC2 was a great game just too bad it was solo. If you havent played SR3 as a co-op you are truly missing out on one of the best sandbox experiences ever.

It took a person who made a livestream about the game (Slayer I think his name was) around 35 hours to do everything in the game (except all trophies/achievements) which is longer than it took for me to do everything in SR3 (including all the trophies) by about 2-3 hours.

The only three open world games that took me 100+ hours are Just Cause 2, GTA IV and San Andreas so it seems that 100 hours is way above the average for the length of completion for an open world game but 35 hours is a small bit too short in my opinion.

I find it very hard to believe you beat everything in SR1, SR2, or SR3 in 32 hours. I am at 60 or 70+ hours in SR3 and still have a LONG LONG way to go. And thats even with the help of co-op partners. Saints Row games are usually 100+ hours to do everything. I cant comprehend beating EVERYTHING in SR3 without cheating somehow. I am talking about EVERYTHING. Riding wheelies on bikes, stoppies, travel distance, kill this amount of this person, kill this amount of that person, fly this distance, drive this distance, walk this distance. No offense but there is no way you did all that in SR3 in 32 hours not even with the help of a co-op partner. Crackdown 1 and 2 are also very long but it sounds like you are only playing on the PS3. So that might explain why you are missing some of the long sandbox games.

A definate purchase for me regardless of reviews (this game reminds me of Hard Boiled/Lat sau san taam). From what I'm seeing so far from reviews, while getting favorable marks, it's falling to a double standard. It seems to have issues that most if not all other sandbox games have but get a free pass on, like glitches, length & other aspects.

I'm not talking about one or two i'm just talking about the Third game. I did everything in it in about 32 hours.... but I went very fast doing it.. I didn't mess around in free roam until I finished the story. The story took me just over 8 hours(I played through it over 3 days).

This reviewer completed 72% of the SR3 in 14 hours.

I recently sold my PS3 so I only really play 360 now.

Six Months Of DLC Planned For Sleeping Dogs

Fancensus
Today Square Enix have announced plans that they will support upcoming title Sleeping Dogs for an extensive six months with additional content.

“SLEEPING DOGS is a game we know fans will want to keep on playing, so over the next six months we’ll be creating a series of new content packs giving players everything they need to keep enjoying the game,” said Lee Singleton, General Manager, Square Enix London Studios. “We want to create something to suit everyone’s play style from cool cars and high-speed missions to outlandish outfits and game-extending mission packs. The game launch is just the beginning.”

There will be a range of new downloads available at launch including “the 80s-inspired Retro Triad Pack, a killer old school outfit with its own player buffs and funky kung-fu van.” New content packs are planned from September, beginning with a high-speed Racing Pack and an explosive SWAT Pack.

The first Sleeping Dogs packs will be available from launch on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Steam.

Explains the reason for the lack of gameplay at release :grumpy: Hows about finishing the game first! Will probably wait for the complete edition with everything in then.

Again, its IMPOSSIBLE to beat EVERYTHING in SR3 in that amount of time. The reviewer clearly stated he only completed the main mission in 14 hours.

"I completed the campaign after 14 hours of play I had only finished half of the side missions with an overall 72 percent completion. Many good times await after the campaign ends for those that want to achieve 100 percent. "

It is impossible to beat everything in SR3 in 32 hours. I can promise you that there is no way you did everything in 32 hours. lol No way. I am guessing you dont know about all the side objectives on the phone in SR3. Wheelie this distance, walk 2,500,000 ft, fly this distance, jump this distance, kill this many people, taunt this many people, destroy this certain car this many times, human shield this many times, stoppie this distance, drift this distance, 2 wheels this distance, and many many more. There is no way you could do all the side objectives in SR3 in 32 hours if you want to complete the game 100%. The first 95% takes about 50+ hours. The last 5% takes forever. No offense but its impossible. Even with a co-op partner it cant be done in that amount of time. I am at 65+ hours now and still no where near completing all the side phone missions.

Now this is intersting in the IGN review:

As you’re kept engaged by its fascinating story and the general fun you’ll be having driving, shooting, punching and adventuring, you’ll also be kept busy. That’s because Sleeping Dogs is a pretty long game. There are certainly sandbox titles that have more for you to do, but expect to spend somewhere in between 20 and 25 hours to see and do everything, and more of that if you want to chase a Platinum Trophy. Apart from the main story, expect to stay busy with finding collectibles, engaging in races, singing karaoke, and taking part in all manner of side quests, even ones that bring out the full cop in Shen.

Has anyone heard anything about air planes, helicopters, or jets? I just noticed I have not seen any pics of air vehicles at all.

I dont remember off the top of my head, but I got the platinum trophy for SR3 and I think it was somewhere between 30-40hrs (in game timer). I stopped playing it shortly after I got the platinum, so can confirm exact time when I get home. If I went and did it again, knowing the controls etc from the start, I could probably shave an hour or two off that. By the way, I did roam about having no clue what I was doing for quite a while at the start. Oh, I dont have any DLC, not sure whether you factor that in the time to completion.

Back to Sleeping Dogs... for arguments sake, lets say that it takes the same time as SR3, that is fine by me. Will probably pick it up in a couple of months after the first price drop.

Rented this and I only had a chance to play for a couple hours last night. I really like the colorful and vibrant Hong Kong scenery. Its nice to see something other than NYC over and over again. Really enjoying the feeling of this environment. It truly feels like a new environmental experience. I also like how I have to adapt to driving on the "other" side of the road. lol

The fighting mechanics remind me of the Batman Asylum games or a mix of The Witcher 2. Learning how to counter the enemy is critical in the hand to hand combat. I have spent most of my time exploring around the city. A lot of attention to detail make this an enjoyable experience so far.

Played a couple more hours last night. Now I have a race car in my garage, a gun, and 3 girlfriends I am working on. :sly:

What's the city like? Is it all in the city or do you travel up into the country and surrounding hills? How big would you say the map is (you can compare it to other games)?

Sifu Insults

Pure comedy, haha!

"More american bumbling, have another cheeseburger."
"I've seen trained yaks move more quickly."
"How kind of you to mask my shame with your own tsunami of disgrace."

Just picked this up for PC. $25 on cdkeyhouse.com

Ran a couple of benchmarks; so far so good.

Good PC support, auto-detect controller (I'm going to be using a 360 controller), graphics look good from benches.

Still don't quite understand how to modify the graphics settings though... Every time I change one it changes another, and then it will never save what I had selected... Mainly trying to turn off V-Sync which it won't let me... Anyone else getting this?

Edit: This game is great. I highly suggest it; definitely worth at the very least a rent if you're on console. If you're on PC you can get it for cheap obviously.

The only thing I do not like is the shaking effect while driving vehicles. Hopefully I can figure out how to turn it off (if you know how please let me know- there's no setting in-game so a config file needs to be modified), it's literally giving me a headache... Vomit.

How do you get cars into the garage? Also I'm trying to figure out what the "x" button does in melee combat on the ps3.
1. You can get vehicles into your garage in a couple ways. Continue the campaign and complete your first race.
2. Or buy them and they will be in your garage. You should have a bike in there right now.
3. Not sure what the x button does because I am on the 360. Hit start and go to your "Upgrades" and then go to hand to hand combat or fighting. Something like that and it tells you what the buttons do.

What's the city like? Is it all in the city or do you travel up into the country and surrounding hills? How big would you say the map is (you can compare it to other games)?
The city is modeled after Hong Kong so it is beautiful at night. Lots of neon lights and signs and fairly congested. Very busy at times. Kinda like the busy areas in NYC or Las Vegas.

The main part is in the city and yes it travels up into mountains and hills. So it does have some nice scenery changes. Some of it is really beautiful. In terms of size its much smaller than Saints Row 1, SR2, SR3, and GTA4. I think SD could be the smallest sandbox game made so far. But from what I have seen, its all quite active. No dull areas with empty space.

I dont think there are any air vehicles at all. No planes, no jets, no helicopters. I think its just way too small for that. In fact I unlocked the "Man around town" achievement by accident in only a couple minutes of driving. Which means I drove around to every part of the map in only a few minutes.

I rented SD and have 8 hours into it. So far I would give it a 9. It seems to be getting better and better the more I play. Storyline is good too. I heard its only about 14-20 hours long to do everything so its hard for me to suggest this as a full purchase. The price will drop very fast on this. But I would suggest at least renting it for sure especially if you like sandbox games.

I'm tempted, but then I remember the carnage that was the Summer Sale and my backlog. I know I'll love this but I don't think I'll love it enough for today's prices so I'll grab it at Christmas maybe.

They could increase the map area via a future update (Rockstar added South Central for free in MCLA). Although its disappointing that the map is so small and not in anyway HK accurate I suppose you have to take in to consideration the size of United Front and this is pretty much their first non kiddy game. Maybe this '6 months of DLC' will bring lots more to the table.

Glad - PC optimization (Devs take note! Please!) & X360 optimization
Not glad - PS3 shafted with inferior multiplat once again(murky/blurred & lower res. :(). Gameplay is intact.

I am now at 15 hours and have truly been enjoying this game. I have been taking my time but I finished the campaign yesterday. The campaign has been really good and gets better and better as you progress. But after the campaign is finished, there isnt a lot of replay value besides the side missions. Especially since it has no co-op and no multiplayer. I like the Roadrunner radio station. Some good songs on there.

Yes the Sifu training in post #82 is quite funny. That guy is hilarious. Those side missions where people need "help" crack me up. One lady asked me if her braw was too tight. Then I heard footsteps and a guy punched me in the back of the head. She said "thats what you get for being a pervert" as the guy ran off with my money. I was laughing so hard. The mission with "Old Salty Crab" is quite funny too. After he climbs the fence. "Owwww I pulled a muscle" "I didnt even know I had a muscle there" "Maybe I will get a massage on it later". He says a lot of funny stuff the entire mission. lol

I still only recommend this as a rental or wait for a price drop. Overall great and unique sandbox experience. I decided to rent it for 5 more days so I could finish up the campaign and then work on some of the side missions. Overall I would give this at least a high 8 or low 9.

I first got wind of Sleeping Dogs back at PAX East. I was walking the show floor and the Tyler Stout illustrations drew me in. I was impressed with the gameplay at the time, so I put this on my watch list and I'm glad I did.

I think I'm about 2/3 of the way through the main campaign and I've been hooked. The free-flowing melee combat is very satisfying, but it's not as tight and sophisticated as what you'll find in Batman Arkham City. Gunplay, which has been the weak point of the GTA series, is pretty nice. Aggressive cover is fun when you get your rhythm down, but targeting is a little loose. This is also the first sandbox style game I've played where I've actually enjoyed shooting while driving. I'm really enjoying Hong Kong as an environment too. I think United Front Games found the perfect balance of real and pop culture Hong Kong. The acting is generally top notch, and the cast isn't whitewashed!

I've been playing the PC version, and it's very smooth, as long as I don't use SSAA. Other than SSAA, I've got all the graphical bells and whistles turned on, and it looks quite nice, especially with the HD texture pack. LOD and draw distance seems much better on the PC version too.
