SMS says "what's coming in the first patch"

I didn't think EA had the final say in what bugs needed fixed. What a bunch of so and so's...

Anyway, its good to see that this isn't a ship out product and onto the next project job. Get the handling tweaked a little bit, FFB issues for the wheel users and then fix the freezes and the grpahics editor and Im sweet!

So EA really is aware of complaints? Who would've thought :)

Now we need to sort what's a priority and in unison fill their bugs DB.

We (here in Gtplanet) would also probably get more direct info from the devs if it wasnt for some smart #### users that opened threads bringing down the only dev (Ian Bell)that brough us some news about the upcoming patch...
Well, Im going to get this game on monday but Ill wait until the patch is out to start playing it :D

Once again, I was simply pointing out the painfully obvious: That it could have been anyone making said posts and that, until it was confirmed, we should all view them w/ a little more skepticism. Furthermore, any negatively connoted terms were used only to illustrate my point and, as I thought I made clear at the time, no offense was intended whatsoever.

I've had Shift 2 on PS3 now for two weeks and yes I am sure it would benefit from a patch (but what game wouldn't). But it is very far from unplayable on a pad or a wheel. It handles differently to GT5 and strange as this may sound I think it just takes a while for your hand muscles to adjust and aquire a memory for this game - you have to be finer with your movements. You aslo need to be prepared to spend time tuning the car - which as a Need for Speed game makes perfect sense. This is a game that you need to spend time with to get the most out of.

I would rep you if I could. well said 👍

to add to this- I love this game but it could benefit a lot from a few patches to clean up the rough edges, but all in all they did a damn good job I think

Yes they did an excellent job. This is the most fun i've had from a racing title in a long, long time.👍

Steering Lag FIX!!!!
This patch will own!

Fix all these little bugs and then get to work on some season length realistic events! This game has more potential then a hooker at GDC, i just hope it goes all the way!

IanBell:
Hi all.

I planned to answer the questions today but we've had a bout of cracking weather in Windsor and I couldn't resist taking the kids to Lego Land. I'll get on to them soon though

I think Shift 2 potential is great thx to theese developers, personal devotion and not just money money :)

I understand your point in that thread and I kind of helped to the party in that topic but the mods cleared most of my suspicious. But then someone opened another rant topic directed at him and that probably closed his door on us...
Well it could of been me if I had bought the game and had a bad experience (though I doubt I would react that way and get personal)

But its no big deal, what I would really like to know is news about whats coming in the PS3 patch because I have the money to buy the game put away and Im only waiting for the best time to buy it.... if the patch takes too long and doesnt adress the lag and FFB issues Im going Dirt 3 all the way.

I bought my copy on day one, but haven't played it in almost two weeks now due to the dreaded input lag. If it hadn't been for Sir Ian's assurances here and elsewhere that this issue will be addressed in the patch most likely being released at the end of this month I'd have had my copy up on eBay a week ago. There's a damned good game in there underneath the control issues and I hope I get a chance to really play it before I tire of waiting for a patch and decide to swap it for F1 2010.

F1 2010 got just about everything right IMO, except that its F1 :(
If shift2 had the same layout on the career, with realistic races and everything, I dont see myself ejecting the disc from the console....ever...

I've been going back and forth between GT5 and Shift 2. Both games are great, and each excels at different things. I've really come to think one is not better than the other. Like Brooklyn and Chicago style pizza, same concept, different approach, both are amazing...

When I have folks come over that have never played a Driving game with a wheel before, I always put in GT5 though. It's way more noob friendly with it's arcade laid back approach.

Just sent EA a support request. Since Fanatec wheel support was dropped for the PS3 after initially being promised (and my pre-order placed based on this) I really feel EA should be absorbing the cost for me to switch to the still Fanatec supported Xbox version. Worth a shot at least!

I have to agree. Shortly before I played GT5 I bought GTR2 and I must say, the difference is night and day. How people can say GT5 is even close physics wise is beyond me.

Which brings us to Shift 2, GTR2s spiritual successor. The thing people seem to be forgetting is that you couldn't just turn all assists off and drive in GTR2 - you had to set up your car to suit you/the track/the conditions etc much the same as Shift 2 (which is essentially the same engine). And keeping in mind there is a patch in the works, Shift 2 could end up being something very similar to GTR2 physics wise (I doubt this though).

Fanatec Support for the PS3 version being dropped was announced before release date.
Not to be a complete jerk, but...
Do you not know how to cancel a Pre-Order? I fail to see how it isn't your fault.

Of course I do, but what if I pre-order based on the official info - then never again look at the website while anxiously waiting for delivery? Perhaps if they announced they were dropping Fanatec support, instead of just quietly deleting that line from the website more people would have been aware.

Honestly, I did it because it took all of 5 minutes to fill out the web support request. As I prior customer of Shift 1 and NFS:HP it seems reasonable that they would be able to accommodate my request. I'll be happy to send them back the PS3 version - I am not asking for a free game or even a discount. Just swap me versions for what works with my wheel.

That, or patch the PS3 version - which is doubtful, it sounds.

If it doesn't happen, no big deal, but you won't know until you ask.

Read his post, he wants EA to absorb some of the cost for him to buy the 360 version...

It is "my" post and by absorb the cost I mean I don't want to pay to buy the Xbox version as I have already bought the PS3 version. I can't return an opened game, so I would have to trade it in at a loss to a retailer. I'd be happy to even exchange it direct with EA for the Xbox version - meaning I have paid for and received one game - it is just I am funny in wanting that one game to actually work!

So what? EA customer service are there, and they should try to make their customers happy (in a reasonable manner).
Anyway back on topic we want some patch news (console) 👍

Your thought process is logical and you are right. You're also dealing with EA. If you want to play it on Xbox this century, sell your PS3 copy on Ebay and use the money to buy a 360 copy off Ebay.

Prove me wrong, EA. :P

Very good career mode, excellent graphics, very good track and car modeling, decent damage model and AI, the best dinamic weather system in any game but dodgy physics and terrible FFB... IMO of course

I cant imagine any company would do that tbh.

Hopefully a PS3 patch will follow!

And I hope it arrives before my pre-ordered Dirt 3 does ;)

I've put Shift 2 in the drawer for now and I'm back on GT5. If the patch is released before Dirt 3, then I will give Shift 2 another go.

I see no point playing a "need for speed" game where anything that moves at high speed causes the PS3 to freeze ;)

Posted last night (19th)

The patch candidate build is being made tonight :)

So, with luck will go to EA shortly, then off to ms/sony - which could take some time but will be out of SMSs hands

F1 2010 is a joke as all other Codemaster games I have it and it SUCKs and has nothing to do with real racing. No sense of high speed cars !

I cant comment on the driving physics, havent driven it much, but the career and overall presentation is superb! One of the best ive ever seen.

Far from it. F1 2010 is one of the best games I've played in quite a while. I do think you need to be an F1 fan to get the absolute most out of it but the driving experience is outstanding. The in-cockpit view will keep your rear end well puckered when you have the hammer down :) If I could only have one game it would be tough to choose between F1 and GT5. Fortunately I don't have to make that impossible choice! I'm hoping S2U will join them as a favorite once the input problem is fixed.....
