After watching the @MikeGrove video of 2 laps at Nurb 24hr - I will be taking a 90-min scenic tour through the German Nurb countryside.

Looks like good weather for such an outing - might stop and take a few snapshots along the way.

I am right there with you that lap was amazing

Reminders/Updates for Tomorrow's Race

Qualifying
We'll have qualifying as normal tomorrow night, but we'll need to be extra strict concerning punctuality. Specifically:
  • If you aren't on the long straightaway ready for your hot lap at 9:00 EST, you will be ineligible for qualifying (everyone who doesn't qualify will start at the back, ordered according to current standings - D1 drivers first, then D2)
Also, remember that if you go off track at any time during qualifying, you are to pull off to the side of the road and wait for qualifying to end. Last week we had an incident where a driver went into the pits during qualifying, which is not allowed.

Blue Flag Etiquette
Did anyone watch the F1 race at Interlagos this weekend? Don't be like this guy.

More specifically, if you're being lapped (i.e. you have a blue flag) you should not do either of these things:
  • Block/Contest for Position - The drivers on the lead lap should be able to safely assume that any lapped cars won't put up a fight
  • Pull Off the Track - There's no need to dramatically pull off the road to make room for drivers on the lead lap. It is their responsibility to make a clean pass

I’m all about Blue Flag but in my opinion I think that Force India wasn’t in the wrong. His side was that he was told to go by his team cause he had fresher tires then the leader and I think Verstappen (who wrecks almost every week) should have taken it wider. But still India probably could have not pressed the issue there.

Yeah I think both drivers were trying to be too aggressive there. That being said, if I was Verstappen in that situation I probably would have assumed that the other driver would back off since he was a lap down.

Oh he did and he shoved him a couple times after the race but the dude didn’t even do anything. Right or wrong I would have fought max right there lol.

I agree he obviously had the pace to unlap himself and the leader just pinched him off ocon had the line bad call by the leader

Max is an idiot here.
Defends the inside line, even though 4 laps earlier Lewis let him have the inside because he knew there was no sense racing him when Max had more pace, and that was for position.

Then when Max realizes he has a car with a brand new set of tires right on his ass, he takes a defensive line, then boxes him out.

That's the difference between a veteran world champion and a 21 year old, have to race everyone at every corner hothead.

@BradESPN
Are we going to go in a reverse direction up the long straight and line up to start qualifying?

I don't think this will work unfortunately because the game will recognize that lap as your out lap and not an actually lap and wont register the time...I might be incorrect though

Yep, you’re right about that. DUH!!!
Brain on a Bio Brk I guess.

Just a PSA

In the beginning of the nordschleife, there is an uphill followed by a sharp high speed right.

I coasted on the uphill, preparing for the right hand turn, not sure if I hit a bump or something but the front of my car lifted and next thing I knew I was airborn.

I must have flown about 6' in the air over 60' in distance and slammed into the barrier.

I tried a few times to recreate it but only got minor liftoff, nothing like the plane taking off experience I got on my first run.

Be careful out there lol

Had the same thing happen to me too it just took off like crazy

Same here. It was like a Mercedes at Sarthe deal

Flugplatz is the turn. The rise before it has claimed more than its fair share of lives IRL. Google it. A GTAcademy winner was probably the last professional to crash there before they lowered the speed limits. It's an ugly spot, especially for high speed cars with flat floors. To keep the nose down you have to stab the brakes right before you crest it.

A take-a-way from Practice tonight:
At T1 & T2 at the start, with cold tires, the Zonda will spin very easily.

Probably causing damage to your car - but regrettably you may cause damage to another car. That other driver will instantly have his race changed dramatically - from no fault of his own.

Endurance racing is not a Sprint.
Please exercise patience during Lap 1, at least.

I brake just before the tip to keep front down

I read that Esteban was taunting/provoking him after the race. Not to excuse Max's behavior because he could have just walked away or just said "at least I have a drive next year", but escalating the issue didn't help anyone.

Max is just one of those guys who doesnt realize that being overtaken is a part of racing. Many of his several, serious incidents and stewards office visits in F1 are because of this personality trait. It is an ego thing.

Max knowingly refused to let him past, very very late into the move because he has no respect for other drivers.
Even though Max was a lap ahead, Ocon had a long race left to go with his direct competition, & was the faster car due to fresh tires.

Had Max allowed Ocon by, he would have been in position to win that race.
Racing closely requires strong discipline and a humble attitude.

Yes max shouldve left him go past it wasnt for position...that was a dumb move to take himself out of the race and then to act like my 2 year old in the pits because of it was a joke in my opinion...

That sucks. Hopefully it's just a small hiccup and you can fly through whatever you're doing.

Hearing Lewis referred to as "veteran world champion" feels weird. It's nice to see he's killing these records. It wasn't too long ago I had to deal with 2011 jokes.
