SNAIL Holiday Events

Snail Saturday Holiday Event
Saturday 8 February 2025
Room Open 9PM EST

Upon us once again is a 'holiday' weekend for Snail Sunday Spec Series, so with some delay I announce the next edition of the Holiday Historics. This time we will be using a car currently accessible in the Legends dealer. For details about the history of the particular car we have in the game, see the bottom of this post.

I will hold a practice session or two beforehand, details to follow. If you see me online, feel free to join!

General Information
  • Saturday, 8 February 2025
  • Lobby Open 9PM EST
  • Driver's Meeting 9:15PM
  • Open practice/qualifying session, followed by a race at each track
  • We will be using a manual double-file rolling start. With a warm-up/formation lap, we will tighten up the pack and the leader will pace us to the start. Details in the drivers meeting.

Eligible Car
  • 1954 Maserati A6GCS - The car is currently available in the Legends dealership
Stock Wheels Required

Tracks
  • Interlagos
  • Monza
  • Circuit de la Sarthe*
*This race will be unique in that it not only will be run with day and night conditions, we will do our best to replicate the Le Mans start. Since we cannot get out of our cars, we will grid up along the pit wall at driver's right along the start/finish straight, and have a standing start. Details in the drivers meeting.

Additional Information
  • Comfort Medium tyres
  • ABS off
  • The lobby will be run under normal Snail Sunday night lobby settings and regulations, including BOP on, with the exception of fuel consumption being set at 1x instead of off
  • Stock wheels are required on all cars
  • While I'm not going to publish any livery restrictions, I ask that folks consider something period appropriate in the chance others would like to take some nice photographs.

Other bits of cool stuff

Maserati developed the A6GCS from the A6 line of GT cars. The CS stands for Corsa Sport, denoting a competition version. 52 examples were built, bodied variously as spyders, coupes, and berlinettas, with the bodies completed by one of a few different coachbuilders. The cars were build as both works an customer versions, intended as racing cars for both endurance and circuit racing events. The particular example we have in the game is chassis # 2078, which was driven as a works car primarily by Luigi Musso under Maserati. I believe the car was then sold overseas to a privateer, who ran the car in Brazil for a time. The car then changed hands a few times while remaining an amateur racer, before being restored in the mid 1980s for use in the revived Mille Miglia historic races. The car was then sold in the late 1990s and made its way to the United States, where it competed for a number of years at the Monterey Historics, upon which it was later come across by Polyphony and awarded their highest honour in 2014. Then, the car first appeared in the game 8 years later, in 2022.

I just purchased the 55 Mercedes used in the last event lol. More grinding needed.

Hang onto that one, it will reappear here in the future. It's also a great car overall, particularly in VR.

The Maserati is wonderful in VR as well, though you may want to lean forward to get some more space in the cockpit; and at least one of the races will be a real treat in VR above and beyond the usual.

Dammit!!!, and I was saving up to buy the 917K. Oh well, the last holiday race was a blast, so why not?

That's a fun car as well. May get to use that for a future event, if either enough folks have it or I can balance it with something more accessible. Haven't driven it since the latest update, but the car has gotten consistently easier to drive since it was released. I do wish we got a 917/30.

Happy to see someone toeing the line for holiday events! Especially a ABS free one. Cheers!
Was wondering when you would pop in here lol. We've run a few races now, and folks are having a bit of fun. The game has made driving without ABS much more forgiving, even for those with basic pedalsets like the G29. Between the updates increasing longitudinal grip and adjust weight transfer, as well as the pedal calibration allowing you to adjust the gain on your brake pedal; a number of cars are actually faster without ABS now.

An update to the track list;

Tracks
  • Monza
  • Interlagos
  • To be announced
  • Circuit de la Sarthe
While the particular car modeled in GT7 did not run at Le Mans to my knowledge, Maserati did run the A6GCS in 1954 and 1955, though none ever finished the race. Hopefull we will have better luck.

This race will be unique in that it will not only be run with day and night conditions, but we will also do our best to replicate the Le Mans start. Since we cannot get out of our cars, we will grid up along the pit wall at driver's right along the start/finish straight, and have a standing start. Much as they did in 1970, the last year before the event changed to a rolling start as used to this day.

This will be a lot of fun, and if you are on VR and haven't driven Le Mans at night in an open top car, you are in for a treat.

I will have a room open around 10PM this evening (about 20 minutes from now) to test the time of day multiplier at Le Mans. Will also run some laps at the other tracks, and be available to help anyone struggling to get around the track, and field complaints about how Monza is bad.
