So, about that course creator.

I have noticed that first time GT players tend to whine less about features because its still a pretty good game. Tried playing GT4 (got a PS2 now, so this isn't an emulated version) and I found all the menu swapping very fiddly, but the game itself fun.

Lol people take it so personal against PD and Sony. Yes it's taken awhile but I didn't even know it had it until awhile after I got the game... I'm willing to wait as it's not a huge interest for me, I use GT for league racing primarily.

I highly doubt they'll release GT7 before the course maker and I highly doubt it'll be more than 6 months away, I'm leaning towards the possibility it'll be waiting until GTAcademy is over.

I'm also sure that everyone who tries to make an impact by saying they're going to Xbone and Forza etc and never going back to Sony, will be seen again come GT7 ;).

Let me know how that crystal ball business works out for you. Seriously though, I didn't say what I said to "just make an impact on Sony", that's just ridiculous. I have been playing GT hard and fast since the release of 5. I am sincerely and genuinely tired and disappointed in the series and it is just time for me to move on. And yes, as I've said many times before, if I feel like GT7 is worth it, I'll be back. That is sincerely a big if though. So again, let me know how that crystal ball works for ya. ;)

Whoa, you paid $90 for GT6? I know pre-order incentives can increase the price but damn, I paid half of that when I pre-ordered GT6 and got all the Pre-bonus cars. I'm not being funny here but I feel like whoever sold you this game ripped you

Thats in australian dollars - im in Australia and we call it the Australian tax - it sucks everything over here is inflated just because (compared to international prices).

Saying that, what i paid was actually a pretty good deal - on psn it was about $120!

How can it be a full game when it only has half the content of their previous game?

That's a good point. I've always thought it was weird that the GT series went from GT2 to GT4, what's up with that, PD?

...

It'll be interesting what the response will be to the Course Creator if it's eventually released. At 18 months after release of the retail game and counting, it's fair to ask how much of an impact it will make on anything other than the hardcore GT enthusiast crowd. But PD is caught in a tough spot any way: if they don't release it, they'll be (legitimately) criticized for it repeatedly during their next project.

Personally, I'm still not convinced it'll ever be released for GT6: I'd really like to think so, almost more so for PD's sake than my own, but "intent" certainly hasn't been enough to confirm things from them in the past.

I've never played a Gran Turismo game besides GT6, but I did look at some of the Course Maker videos on YouTube from GT5. If the Course Maker in GT6 is anything like the Course Maker in GT5, PD really shouldn't even bother at this point. It looked very lame to me. I couldn't imagine having any use for a Course Maker like what was in GT5.

Just optimism, I'm sure he knows nothing more than we do, nobody can really know what's going on with it.

A lot of people I know have abandoned hope for CM or the game entirely, which is sad, but I don't blame them.

I still hope to see CM return, as it was pretty much my favourite part (feature) of GT5.

You asked him?

Maybe not, maybe he knows a bit more than we do.

All of the features that were said to be released in a future update on GT's website have been released so far, except for Course Maker, so I don't think it's a matter of "Is Course Maker coming to GT6?" but more of a matter of "When is Course Maker coming to GT6?" I doubt Course Maker will be coming to GT6 while GT Academy is taking place, so it'll probably come around late June/sometime in July at the earliest.

Yamauchi claimed it was being beta tested a YEAR ago I'd say something is not right here.
That's correct. However what isn't right is not what many people here are leaping to the assumption it is.

Then it would not be accurate for me to say it with certainty...

I can say, with certainty, that Course Maker is still scheduled to arrive for GT6. I can't say with any certainty precisely what that schedule is, nor would I speculate on it.

That would then tick off the final box of fulfilled 'promises' (which we currently sit at 92% for). Except for Vision GT, which has been a colossal bollock thanks to the fact that the third parties PD was relying on - the car manufacturers themselves - didn't get their collective fingers out.

To be fair, Polyphony's continued support of the game with free cars (and sometimes tracks) has been quite good, considering such content could easily have been paid DLC.

If the Course Maker comes, great. If it's flexible enough for people to recreate real-world circuits, even better. If it doesn't arrive then fair enough; I didn't buy the game with the intention of using it anyway and have had many months of enjoyment with the game as a whole.

Any chance you could give a more informal hint that isn't a mystical non-answer? What keeps you from being more detailed? Either NDA or to prevent relationship damage between GTP and PD? - I don't mean this to sound brash, I just can't think of a better way to word it, my brain isn't working this morning.

Most people are guessing along the lines of hardware contraints or that most of the team are busy with GT7. Could it be legal issues for some reason, something to prevent people recreating real life circuits? QA testing is taking too long?

I don't know, I think I'm going through a 6 hour brain fart today.

No.

I can phrase it in the form of a wind, if you like?

To quote Brad Pitt:
Look, it's not in my nature to be mysterious, but I can't tell you and I can't tell you why.
As far as I'm aware though, there is no technological barrier that is preventing the Course Maker appearing on PS3.

On the bright side, it's now spent so long in a beta phase that it should be extremely robust - and given how many people have been complaining about being marketplace beta testers for GT6 and, more recently, PCARS, that's a good thing.

Don't judge a book by it's cover!

It was far from perfect, it was finicky...and it did suck if you sucked with it. But with patience and practice, you could make some really fun tracks.

If you care more about pretty scenery over a fun-to-drive layout, it was not for you.

But by the end of GT5, many of the best tracks we were using were the custom tracks.

Except thats not his entire point.

Its the fact that PD removes it from GT5, and plan it to make it better in GT6 like what they did on 3D and BSpec feature.

He meant if the Course maker turns out to be much the same as GT5, what the hell more than a year of wait for?

The only reason a feature may take more than two years to develop, would be that it will be something increeeeeeedibly good. So I will put the bar extremely high so that way there would be reasoning to this long wait.

Well, for what it's worth, we have more specific claims for functionality that would greatly improve the feature over GT5; compared to the more vague promises regarding B-Spec's improvements.

I think that is likely quite dangerous.

They will, but they didn't say when.

That is exactly problem.

Legally speaking, they have no official deadline, at least aside from the fact that it needs to be added at some point before the servers/support for the game is dropped.

Legality =/= Ethicality. We were told that the course maker, as well as several other features, would be part of the game (and therefore part of what you are paying for), but that they would be released post-launch. Words like "soon" were thrown around, and not many really fell on that deadline - though that may depend on your definition. However, in no way, shape, or form, does a massive key feature spoken of as "just going to miss the launch day" fall under the definition of "soon" when it goes 18 months and still isn't here. That may be legal, but absolutely not ethical. It's B.S., honestly.

So their deadline...
...is your Death line 💡

You just watched the wrong videos. ;)

Creating great tracks in GT5 took lots of time and dedication. I used to spend hours on them just making little tweaks to make them feel just right.

I had a few tracks that had different variations to them, like a short+long course, or east/west/full versions by changing just one or two sectors of a track and keeping the rest the same. It may have been a basic track maker, but you could genuinely make some awesome tracks, you just had to cycle the randomizer a few times when you started to get a good area of terrain to start building on.
