I would really like to have the livery editor simply because it gets really boring to see a flock of cars that look exactly the same. I would like a good quality paint shop where each part can be painted seperately (or almost every part), and the paint choices are matte, gloss, pearlescent, and chrome (for wheels, bumpers, etc.). Id also like to have more wheels, more spoilers including lip spoilers (must have body color and carbon fiber options), functional body kits (either whole or individual pieces), wheel flares (have different width options) and the option of simple graphics like stripes, flames, and geometric shapes (for numbers, sponsers, etc.). I find that i like my vehicle to perform good as well as look good (of course not everyone thinks this way, but to each one his own).

I still envision my dream race team in GT5. I don't want to just collect cars. I want to feel like I have an established race team or some high-quality garage with high-quality cars and trucks. I have cars in GT4 ranging from a Suzuki Cappuccino to a Honda Odyssey, to a Honda Element, to the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner, all the way up to my beloved Pescarolo LMP and Nissan R92CP. I'd love to modify cars with my own team colors. Despite what was mentioned in "GT5: Prologue" in regards to suits that match the manufacturer, I'd like to imagine having my own race suits that me and my team and race queens (highly unlikely this will happen. Just trying to prove a point) to wear. I imagine painting cars in blue and gold, or my alternative red and gold colors.

It's something we'll hopefully get to see in the future, granted we don't get this deal at the Tokyo Game Show in September (Sept. 20 - 23 this year, I believe). I'd still want this.

X2. Interms of gameplay layout, the ability of creating and managing a race team with various cars competing in different series with sponsership n'all would probably be the next best step for the GT Series.

OK, so JohnBM01, you got me to thinking. I had this vision of the Tiger Woods games where you get sponsorships and you can then choose to wear their clothing and use their equipment. But you don't have to, and thus get no benefit from it.

I just thought of that as a way for PD to get some product placement dollars and give us a limited, more realistic form of livery editor. Then we can get our sponsors on our cars and throw on a few minor changes, allowing our team to look similar, but each car distinguishable.

I really think this would be better placed in a professional driver kind of game though. Just something that popped in my head.

Isn't there a screen showing a number of options like a menu for GT5:P, and on that screen there's an option for a race team builder or something like that?

I remember seeing that somewhere, can't remember the thread though...

I swear we seem to think alike. I agree about having my own established race team as this is what I've done on NASCAR 2002 with Black, Silver, and Blue as the colors for my teams uniforms, pit sign, and team colors. The team name I use is the one here in the online racing series here on GTP. JohnBM01, what would be your team name?

Yeah I agree that the next step in the GT series (after they have perfected the physics/AI/damage) is to allow customisation of teams with sponsors and team colours etc - imagine having a global organisation racing all over the world in many series - could integrate nicely with the 'TV' area - you could view highlights of races that your cars appear in.

btw, my team name would be 'Demon Knights Racing' or DKR for short, named after the club I play soccer for. Colours would be black, white, maybe some nice silvers and a splash of light orange.

Mine would probably be "Moonlight Motorsports." An old name I had was "Marine Motorsports" because my last name is Marine. The Moonlight part is of course, part of my longtime fascination with nighttime. Blue is the base color while royal blue and pure gold make up my accents. Think of a blue and gold like the University of California, West Virginia University, Canisius College, Marquette University, and places like that. This would be my team. I usually play "Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2" and modify cars to my team colors to only envision what I could do in GT5P or GT5.

I do have alternative colors. Blue and gold are my regular colors, but I also have combinations of red and gold as well as black and silver.

Just try and tell me these suckers aren,t having fun!

Yes those are quite good quality.

However you'll more likely come across these types of cars when racing online:

Remember, these are apparently tthe 'good' original designs.

There are much more important things to be spending development time on.

Well, I feel like this sort of thing can add to the game for sure.
However, with some games I feel like this sort of thing can take a front-seat to the actual game play. 👎

In my opinion, this sort of editor is great, as long as it doesn't take priority over any other element of gameplay. 👍

I'd rather have a great game with no livery editor than a crappy game with a livery editor.

^^^I hate to do this on a GT message board but I personally think that Turn10 did a great job in implementing it into Forza 2. Their gameplay is one of the best, especially the multiplayer races with lots of different options for all player levels. The added livery makes the online racing even better because of the difference in the cars from player to player. The only thing they messed up on is the replay system which really killed Forza TV. I hope PD will implement something like Forza TV into GT5 so we can watch live racing as it's happening.

Edit: This message was meant for Kent.

All Ive ever wanted since seeing a livery editor system in Forza is to see one on GT, I would love to make paint schemes both real and custom and it would serious add to the replay value of the game (as if its isnt long enough!).

Badly formulated poll. The first option should read "Yeah, I would like this to be added to the game". Especially when the rest of the options are more wishes than actual belives.
If I think it will be in the game, I can still say it´s a bad idea, or that I don´t care about it.
But for me, it would be a nice additon for sure.

I personally think people should be allowed to create what they want. If their taste is "bad taste" then it's upto them. No one would be forcing you to create ugly cars. As long as it was well moderated to keep anything offesnive offline then let people do what they want.

+reps.

I'm doing something similar in Forza 2. I have a concept for a virtual racing team-slash-association called group19racing. Each car uses a three digit number, the last two being 19. I don't know why I like 19, maybe because it's the last teenage year. Anyway, there will be ten drivers and each one will have a number from 019 to 919. My Live ID is Nigel Fox, and he's the "instigator" of this group, so he's number 0. I'll be creating virtual teammates with their own cars and unique liveries. Undoubtedly this will grow past group19, and I'll be creating other virtual racers with their own liveries.

I'll have to say that creating your own unique race cars is the coolest thing ever, and once you catch the bug, you'll find yourself spending as much time making cars as racing them. And then exploring Photomode and showing off your handiwork to the other board members.

I personally think people should be allowed to create what they want. If their taste is "bad taste" then it's upto them. No one would be forcing you to create ugly cars. As long as it was well moderated to keep anything offesnive offline then let people do what they want.
Quoted for truth. You can't give a kid a box of paints and tell them, "Now you can only do what I want." It's not going to happen. Besides, Forza has shown me the uglymobiles are far outnumbered by the awesome.

One thing GT5 should give the would be artists who lack time and talent is a range of presets and templates. The presets would be like race mod in GT2. You normally got to choose between two liveries for your car, and sometimes three. With GT5, it would be nice to have a range of real life and fantasy liveries for those who have no time or talent but want a hot looking racecar. Templates would provide basic vinyl shapes you could play with, position and color, along with a number badge and some decals. And then for the adventurous artists among us like myself, give us the full power of a livery editor. I'm hoping that there's also a decal maker so I can create custom decals for my own real life or fantasy sponsors. And for pity's sake, give us lots of text fonts and national flags.

One more thing: allow us to place graphics on windows, like racer names, and sponsor stripes at the top of windshields.

I just wanted to add something here, since beating Forza 2. With more than 10,000,000 credits to play with, I've been buying up almost every car there is from the lowly Civic to the mighty Audi LeMans racers. And mostly I've been modding and painting up race cars. The paintshop in Forza 2 is amazingly powerful, and despite Turn 10 taking away some useful vinyls in their Microsoftian wisdom, you can do some astounding Photoshop-like artwork. So along with the terrific selection of bodykits, I've been creating racers from BTCC, DTM and up to some SuperGT/JGTC-like beasties. Not only that, but you can make your own decals, and Turn 10 did miss a few which are mysteriously pasted all over boards on the tracksides. Since the supercars are lean on T10 provided decals, rolling your own is almost a necessity to make your own distinctive statement, but the vinyls and fonts they provide give you plenty of resources to accomplish this.

Even better, they do give us some goodies in the car list. They won't let you paint over the racecars, darn it, but there are a few street legal versions you can have a field day with, such as the Enzo, Ford GT, Nissan R390, McLaren F1 and Mercedes CLK. Dab on some paint and decals, add a nose blade and tail, and you have pseudo-LeMans, British GT or ALMS cars to add to your stable.

This sort of thing is what I'm counting on being included with GT5. Being provided with blank racecars, not just black easter eggs at rare moments, with a paint and bodykit shop would put Gran turismo 5 over the top as the greatest racing game ever in my book. We've only been crying for the return of race modification for 7 or 8 years now, but all indications are that Kazunori-dono is on top of the situation, and I can't imagine him allowing Microsoft to one-up him and his crew. *crosses fingers anyway* ;)

I have to add something here. As marvelous as Forza 2 is, there are some absolutely "what the hell were they thinking" moments. My last one was taking a Ford GT and turning it into an ALMS-y monster. It was an almost overwhelming success. Almost. Not only did my metallic silver-white belly turn medium gray with no way to fix it, but the upper nose blade on the right side is completely gone. Great... I hate it when I order stuff and something's missing. ;)

Quality control, guys. You won't see something like this in Gran Turismo.

Agreed, being able to turn a road car into your own race car and to make it look like it as well hold a massive appeal.

I also agree that Gran Turismo is a very polished game, though it does have flaws, some bigger than others, it is a far more polished game than Forza, or any other racing game I can think of right now.

*high fives Dave*

I know I throw popcorn at you from time to time, but it seems like we really have a similar view of these crazy games. In order for Gran Turismo to hit the gaming world with maximum impact, as you and I see it, giving us the tools to create our own racing identities is essential. But as I say, I can't see Kaz and the lads disappointing us. Forza has laid out a marvelous roadmap of what's popular in real life and gaming car culture, and adding in a user paintshop can't be all that hard.

I think the biggest clue is the mention of a GT5 auction/sale feature, again much like Forza has. That kind of thing doesn't make sense unless you can drastically alter every car in the game (or almost) with it's own unique identity. How many people are going to go to a GT5 auction house to look at the same cars that exist in their own dealerships, with nothing different but a few performance parts and a tailwing? ;)

Now to finish up supper before it gets cold and see if I can tame this Ford GT I created...

Our differences tend to lie more with what we wanted from GT4 and our definition of enjoyable and realistic physics. I think ideally we both want the same game, incredibly realisitc physics, incredibly deep customisation, and fantastic AI, it's the steps the GT series takes game by game to reach that we sometimes differ on 👍.

PD can release a livery editor with basic abilities and later on, increase it's portfolio with downloaded upgrades. The PS3 was basically built for networking, so use it to your advantage. Heck they should include a small sampling of it in GT:5P that would allow them to get some feedback on what needs to be added, replaced, and improved upon. Another thing about liveries/mods, please oh please no fantasy parts that do not exist. Infact they can pretty much use generic parts for full racing mods, like carbon fibre shells(body), wings, hoods. With that said, I wonder if they'll allow you to strip your street car down to barebones, and rebuild it as a race car. You know like semi pro racing, still a production car, but rebuilt with racing in mind. That would allow for more options in racing, especially online. Different car types and classes, pro=purpose built race cars, semi pro=rebuilt from the core car and amateur=production models with after market body parts, but still legal to drive on the street. I think that would make for interesting racing leagues, as many people would gravitate to a certain discipline, giving the game a more of a this is my kind of racing, and appeal to different types of racers. I love to race mildly modded street cars in GT series, but I do like to use the professional cars ever soo often.
