Hope it's not a repost.

I can't wait to spam this thread with the photos I will be making this winter.

I don't believe in either mentioned place, so that makes me close minded?

Maybe that post wasn't meant for you. I respect your lack of belief, as long as you aren't badgering me.

And this isn't a religion thread, I'm not arguing.

👍

I like how you can trace the main roads by just following the dots, especially in the west.

Edit.

And still so many dark spots in the US. There are enough dark spots to place my entire country in.

:(

We have very few dark spots.

I think the Western US will look like that for a while. There's quite a bit of land set aside as National Parks, etc in the West. Still crazy how far we've come though and this side of the country is still so barren.

Is it north or South Korea that's in black out? Also where are they on the map. I was shockingly bad at geography.

The map Turbo posted is North America. The one I posted is Europe and North Africa.

I'll let you google the Korean Peninsula by yourself.

I was only looking at the picture embedded in the thread. I knew that was Europe. :dopey:

Also I mean "Korea" as in "they" :)

Arizona is home to one of the nation's, now protected, dark areas. When I lived there I used to spend as much free time as possible camping, usually for the nights under the stars.

How about that...

I noticed it was pretty clear here Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and I could actually see the stars so I got out on the roof with the tripod and snapped a few pictures. Only a few because the wind was blowing quite a bit and my fingers got cold. Here is the first photo I took, my exposure was a bit long leaving some trails but see if you can notice anything. Something drew me to that area, it was certainly Jupiter. Quite the coincidence. :)

Here's another of the Black Marble ones. You can click through to get a HUGE one.

What it mostly makes me think is that Italy needs to turn a few lightbulbs off. And the UK is a bit hidden beneath cloud in this one.

Yup, Jupiter is the brighest "star" in that image. The cluster in the center is the Pleiades or 'seven sisters'. The slightly reddish star left and below Jupiter is Aldebaran. You've caught a similar spot in the sky that I did in this image.

Some 330 million years ago, a galaxy in our cosmic neighborhood scored a bullseye, shooting right through the heart of large neighboring galaxy. The rare collision gave the larger galaxy, NGC 922, an unusual, lopsided ring of hot pink clouds, as seen in this Hubble image released yesterday. Click!

Saturn's moon Enceladus may be capable of supporting life, and scientists are developing a sample-return mission concept to collect particles from the icy plume blasted into space near its south pole. Click!

2034? That line made me finally realize how my and everyone else's life will change significantly over the next dozens of years. If we manage to make it to the year 2070+, imagine where we'll be at in space technology. Imagine us finding life, if ever. All these discoveries that might signal life... it could be within hundreds of years from now, or soon, that we'll ever find extraterrestrial life.
