Speculation/Rumor: GT5 C-Spec

I dont really mind having another game mode. Actually, C-Spec sounds interesting.

What bothers me (A LOT!) is that PD is wasting time with a new feature when the main feature in the game (A-Spec) still needs a lot of work. That is a sad...

I was reading the March 2011 PtOM issue #043 the other day, when I came across page 12 labeled with the title heading "Time for Mods" about GT5's planned future with multiple patches. Within the article there was a statement about the upcoming possibility of what they are calling C-Spec. Here is the paragraph as quoted from the magazine ~

Here are the pics of the page (click for larger size) ~

Now here is where it gets pretty interesting...I remembered seeing a video a while back of Phil Harrison at the 2005 E3 giving a presentation demo showing off what the PS3/Cell/RSX was to be capable of, anyway towards the end of the video (4:05 to end) there was a portion that looked eerily like GT5P's & GT5's London in game. Not just that it was a depiction of London in the Demo, but that it looked like they took it right out of GT (or the other way around if you think about it)!

Here is the video ~

And well putting 2+2 together this is what I have come to query about for all to contemplate & discuss! More specifically ~ what are your thoughts about it Amar?

Two things, that refute your rumor:

In 2005, Polyphony Digital was right at the beginning of GT5...so let us say "in concept stage". They weren´t able to have a full modeled London in 2005, maybe they didn´t even have a concept to include London as a race track in GT5.

Second, this video isn´t by PD or Kaz or anybody else around GT. It is a technical demo ajar to a sequel of "the getaway" (a half-baked GTA-clone)

Everyone read #6 at this page, as this is probably the source of the article.

The article may have been referencing this article, which was sourced from the previous forum post.

Most of the content of the article seems to be based on a comment made to Kaz by a fan, not really a statement of fact. Now everyone step off their jump to conclusions mat. :sly:

london was one of the first tracks they finished though.

Sounds great. I would like to see cityscape and back mountain roads connected. As for speed limit, they could add a throttle limiter. They could also put a real and a freestyle mode.
Real = Speed limits and traffic rules.
Freestyle = Fast as you can go, but with traffic rules.

IMO is GT5 engine, look at the vectra and the corsa comfort.

I think is crazy but interesting idea.

You could do 2 player mode where you pick muscle cars and drag race at the traffic lights?
But the problem with traffic is that the first person people see will end up in a wall... Or somewhere worse 💡

But then D-spec will turn into C-spec's B-spec!
You will have to drive D-spec Dave to work with out him crashing, being robbed, being killed, getting chased by the police, being late and many other things.
You earn money if he gets there on time, gets a girlfriend and drives her home, pit manoeuvres a learner driver or other good deeds

In order for C spec to work, you'll need a big area of land to drive in, like Midnight Club: LA has. I'd love to see 'C-spec' implemented very soon. TDU2 failed to pull it off, so there is hope for PD to get it right.

What I'm hoping for is a mode like this(skip to about 5:05):

where we can just have fun driving our cars on real roads from all over the world, like the best driving roads. I mean, it's fun racing on racing tracks and circuits, but I think it would be even more fun if we could take our cars and drive them on actual real roads like in the video above(not the straight road, the windy one at around 5:05).

I also have that issue of PTOM as well, and I read that article too, and was wondering about it. I think I support this idea of a new mode where we can drive the cars in a real world environment. BUT, only as long as they make it similar to the video part I mentioned above...

I think I might write a letter to PTOM asking where they heard about that C-Spec mode... hopefully they answer. If they do, I will post my findings here then...

I don't want to break your dreams people but Kaz Twitted about it while ago.

He didn't imput it because it was simply to much in therms of work and time. Also technological problem.

Remember that PS3 doesn't have super powers and can't just generate whole coty area like london. And we still have problems with shadows.

Probably for ps4 or never since kaz will use whole power to render cars.

Just look at GTA4 or TSU2 both games are vveeerryyy ugly in comparition to GT5

I think GT5 is already trying to be too much of a jack of all trades, they should really work on perfecting what is there already before adding new features.

That being said though, I would enjoy a less race oriented free driving mode on mountain roads and such, with multiple routes to take and (light) traffic.

I don't see a city free roam mode being too much fun though, as someone above said, I do that every day in real life. And while I do enjoy my daily commute (I really do, it's relaxing) I can't see myself firing up GT5 for an hour and a half of careful virtual driving.

Irrespective of traffic laws, pedestrians and the other "city life" type features, it would be brilliant to have some truly open areas without invisible walls.

It's a blast to thrash a beautiful car silly at the Top Gear track, engaging in the full insanity of some Clarkson-esque drifting. If you make a mistake though, you're likely to hit an invisible wall which spoils immersion and damages your shiny car. That track is big, flat and open for a reason IRL.

So even if we just got a big, flat, genuinely open area for practicing the sillier side of driving, that would be a huge win.

It's not GT5, it is The Getaway 3. The Vectra and Corsa were cars included in The Getaway Black Monday, they just ported them into their new graphics engine. More information here: http://uk.ps3.ign.com/objects/748/748448.html Unfortunately Sony cancelled it. :grumpy:

Anyway, back on topic, the best solution would be to include great driving roads in the main GT games, similar to Fujimi Kaido in Forza, I love that track in FM3 so I'd like PD to include tracks like that in GT.

There is a weird almost OCD side of me that thinks I would love to have this happen... BUT there would have to be some real reward for the driving... like the opportunity to take virtual driving tours around real interesting locations with realistic people and life around.

Imagine a virtual world with realistic cars, 5 screen surround and one of those smellovision things along with some fans and heaters to simulate driving thorugh wind and sun...

I think they should make A-Spec and B-Spec more exciting and varied before they try anything else as an experiment. C-spec just seems way to boring to actually be fun.

Maybe it isnt all about traffic lights , speed limit etc etc
Maybe is street racing, with legal road cars only, that would make sense and wont be boring.
Maybe they trying to do something like "PS Home" with cars.
However if they do this right, it will be brilliant.

Lets think techinically for a second...

How much data is this gonna take up? seeing as this alone would easily equal a game within itself?

If its small enough to be comfortably downloaded theres something wrong frankly...

It will HAVE to be open-world as everyone and their mothers will complain if youre asked to choose a small area.

There wont be police, as that would compromise contracts and make the player obv. to the fact they are brakeing the law.

So a govener will probably be put in place to stop anyone from speeding. No big deal, but then what about driving on the wrong side of the road? Cutting lights? Cutting corners? If Kaz wants to keep it legal its going to have to be a. boring or b. player choice, which again could breach contracts.

I mean its a beautiful idea, but chances are it would be a WHOLE seperate thing if it WERE to happen.

So theres another £50-$90 gone.

If they added in a mountainous, tight, twisty road with some beautiful scenery, I could see it being a very fun addition! Especially with a steering wheel with a H shifter :).

Cruising along at your own leisure, nothing but you and the road. Epic! :D.

Imagine if they expanded SSR7 to add roads to drive on multiple highways in that area, it'd be heaven for people who like to race there.

*Excited face*

I'd love a C-Spec! It would be a like TDU2 with superior .. everything. Graphics, physics, car selections.

Although the abiding by the law part.. Haven't we got real life to deal with that?

C-Spec? No... just no. Please don't. Please focus on A-Spec.

A-Spec got a lot to improve! It just need a lot more events and more exciting.

Things I want PD doing is bigger A-Spec and better AI.
