Bahaha! Thanks guys!

I'm am thinking about a 1998-2000 Impreza 2.5 RS, a bugeye Impreza 2.5 and a bugeye (or earlier if possible) Outback Sport. Sadly the 2.5 RSs are rusting apart and are generally overpriced when they aren't. The base model Impreza would be really familiar. The Outback would be great for my bike and is currently number one on my list.

The beater doesn't have to be a Subaru either, so any suggestions are welcome. $3000 is where I'm thinking, but $4000 is the stretch. AWD would be nice, but FWD will do. I really do want a car to transport my bike in (or on a roof rack is fine). I want a reliable car that will last forever, gas mileage doesn't matter. Has to be manual.

...So I guess it's going to be a Subaru. :D

2001 2.5 RS or bust. Rear LSD in 2001 Same for Legacy/Outback as well I believe.

Overpriced imo. I wouldn't sell mine for much over $2200 or so. Granted mine has some rust and isn't a wagon.

Rust is a massive issue on Subarus apparently. At least around here. I went to look at a bug eye wagon and it was a rust bucket.

Speaking of rust, I took my spoiler off to replace the weather stripping and sure enough, the rust underneath was disgusting. I sanded it down and painted over it. It wasn't pretty but no ones going to see it.

The weather seal was falling apart.

I cringe at the sight of a spoilerless STI. Ewww

I've seen pictures. :)

Rust over the rear wheels is very common. You should have seen my old exhaust when I pulled it off. We had to cut it off.

The underside of my car is screwed. I've got to be careful when using jack stands.

My mom's Legacy however, has a factory undercoating and it doesn't even look dirty. It's amazing.

Mine will be like that in a few years unless I do something. There must be some chassis protection stuff I could use.

Damn, must be horrible having to deal with rust like that, it's not something that is even remotely an issue here. It's the heat you have to combat here.

That's such a brilliant, attractive car SPhilli. It's by far my favourite style of Impreza.👍

Thanks!

It certainly is horrible, the rust. It's not uncommon to get down under the car to check rust damage when buying used cars here in New England. :yuck:

If you keep an eye on it and catch it before it spreads, it's not too bad.

Check out the underside of my car... :ill:

And the old exhaust after 8-9 years on the car.

I had to drive to the hardware store quick with the spoiler off and I actually was embarrassed.

I went out and took a few pics when I realized most shots of my car are from my driveway.

I hear that a lot. But if you remember where the car came from (world rally), it's easy to forget how obnoxious, and silly the size of the spoiler is.

And believe it or not, the thing is functional.

Recently passed the 75,000 mile mark! In the coming months I have 2 goals with the car. 1. Get it road tuned for the turbo back exhaust and intake. And 2. repaint the front bumper (daily driving has taken a toll on it) and repaint the trunk lid.

It's really just maintenance at this point. Not much else worth doing to the car.

Are you still enjoying the car, not finding awd too boring or anything? I wish I could make my mind up as to whether I want the wrx version of your car or not :/

Well, the car has been something I’ve always wanted, so it hasn’t gotten boring to me and I can’t imagine it ever will get boring. If it ever does get boring all I have to do it gun it… that’s when the noise of the car completely changes, the exhaust note gets extremely loud and the turbo whistles. Then you’ve got the boost gauge and tach needles going insane and the shift light going on. That’s when I realize it’s not a boring car. *
