"Standards" the good, the bad and the ugly

But at some point you have to stop. You can't go bringing PS1 cars on a PS4 game, there needs to be a level of consistency. If you want to enjoy the content of older games, that's why they still exist. You can't keep holding new games back forever for the sake of some ancient assets, there won't be any progress like that, you have to let go at some point.

Consistency.

Why does it have to be one or the other?
Yeah so you want both good gameplay and good graphics, fine, but you should know that high quality ultra detailed graphics aren't that easy or that fast to create. They are improving the standards, but to turn all cars in the game to premium quality would take so much time it would be ridiculous.
Look at what happened to Forza 5... they only put very high quality cars in the game and the result is that they have very few of them. I'd rather have less ultra high quality but more quantity of cars....

Quoted the wrong post. Take a look at the one I just dug up from the last page.

Honestly I dont understand you. What do you want exactly?
What do you appreciate most from GT, the graphics or the gameplay?
You can still drive and tune the standards perfectly well. Yeah it would be cool if they were all premium, but they aren't because there are soooo many cars to and to model a highly detailed premium takes time. Therefore standards are better than nothing.

I completely agree with you. I was quite disappointed with Forza 5's sparse car list (which would effectively be the alternative to standards - a smaller number of cars with equal detail). Frankly, if that's the alternative, and combined with the fact that standards drive just as well as premiums, I'll take the 1,200 cars + standards over 200 cars. I've always liked GT's encyclopedic attitude to cars - the massive choice, spanning classic cars, race cars, normal cars, and so on - it's not just about the Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

^I guess that also makes GT6 a PS4 game? Or maybe you just missed the point I was trying to make.
What, so when PD go next-gen they're going to make the standards even worse? It doesn't matter whether GT5, 6 or 7, a standard is a standard, and you just said they were from PS1.

*sigh*. No, that's not what I said. I was trying to make a point of having to stop using old assets in newer games at some point and thus the PS1 to PS4 comparison to showcase the difference in level of quality but it flew right over your head and then some.

Never have I said that current standard car = PS1 assets.

But by using that as the difference in the level of quality, you're saying that the standards are from PS1. You are saying that the difference of premiums and standards is this:

I think you should just go play Forza. They keep dropping lots of older models out from their newer games. (Most lame thing about FM-series)

This means you believe that is the difference in quality. You have just said it there.

"Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally"

I really don't know what else I can do from my end.

IWE
I think you should just go play Forza.

Thanks for the suggestion. You can rest easy as I already do, along with many other simulators.

I don't think it's a good idea to use this when discussing in a relatively "serious" way, same when someone says "all cars in GT sound like vacuum cleaners"... it's a bit tiresome and annoying.

If we really see standard cars again in GT7 on the PS4, then I'm throughly convinced that PD is using them as a crutch.

Not use hyperbole in a serious conversation where we put facts to each other?

I don't recall trying to put any facts on the table on that post as I Just trying to show somebody why reusing old assets is bad. There aren't facts to be put down on this conversation anyway as GT6 is what it is, we were just discussing whether we like its current state with the standard cars or not.

I love cars, I want to drive as many cars with as many variety as possible from all eras, the cars in GT has one simple purpose - to experience/to be driven, to be appreciated, to be enjoyed - regardless - if it's just sunday driving/cruising online at city tracks, hot lapping, racing or rolling drag on the highway like SSR7. The more, the merrier, I wished all cars from GT1 to GT5 will be in GT7, if they are going to be in the quality of updated standard like RUFs in GT6, be my guest. I want the Venturi 400, Vector, Jensen, and a lot others back, I want to drive them with the new physics :D

I just had 150km driving stock Renault R8 Gordini, an old 100HP car with comfort hard, doing arcade races in the rain, simply fun with the rear on the edge of slip at Stowe. Now imagine if this car was in GT4 as standard and have to be removed in the next GT - NOOO!!

If you are going to make a point, try and make it relatable to the subject in question. Otherwise, I am 100% certain that all standards will be semi-premiumised for GT7.

Same here, but I play only the ones which I'm comfortable with.

And bk to topic. Some standard cars are so ugly that I personally wouldn't drive those, but most of them are easily good looking enough at least to spice up the grid. Amen, I rest my case!
