RaceVW14 GTP_TheMoose for GT5P
Who needs a xbox? I gotta PS3!
I went & picked up another memory stick & started GT4 over again.
I was at 94% on the original game & only had like mission 34 & the formula GT championship left.
I was getting frustrated at mission 34 & I wasn't having much fun.
I remembered how much fun I had when I first got GT4 so I started over.

It's different this time, I have the DFP wheel that I didn't have till I was about 40% thru the first time, I know about the "Black cars", I'm a much better driver & I've learned a bunch about set up & such.

It's fun having to win a car to use to go to the next race & not having the cash to throw upgrades at it, the licenses are easier this time thru & there are a bunch of tracks I haven't driven since I was a newbee.

So when mission 34 starts getting to you & you've distroyed another controller because you missed it by .008 sec again, start over & remember why this game was so fun in the first place!

Same here, I got to 96%, only Driving Missions left, started again, now I have 100% and all gold licenses.

Tried that myself...buuut due to the lack of DFP and my hate of the snow races (I can't even Bronze the rally tests this time round >.<) I decided it wasn't going to be so fun after all lol

Fun=)
I was planning to do the same when i finnish the game with DS2.
Playing GT4 again but with DFP and alot more skill is gonna be very fun.

Was there a point to this post? Or did you edit it out?

@ the OP: I also prefer the early days of GT games, but that's mostly because I prefer smaller, less powerful momentum cars to the hyperkinetic racers. I play GT4 to relax and have fun, so I don't enjoy the feeling that I'm on the razor's edge of virtual death in some high-strung guided land missile.

I also much prefer the careful build up and adjusting of a lesser car to the "throw cubic money at it" approach of over-upgrading everything. So I really like to operate on a tight budget and work to the most cost-effective solutions.

I much preferred my restart to my first run through the game. Like you, I enjoyed not focusing so much on completion, but instead focusing on close competitive racing, and alternative challenges & strategies.

BTW: If you are interested, I came up with an alternative way of progressing through the game, and posted the details in this LINK.

The beginning was a fun thing. Especially all those sunday-cup and FF Challenge races, since I didn't have money at this point (Yep, I made the mistake and bought a 63HP Sirion because I wasn't used to those buttons), so it was tougher than winning some Supercar Festival with a 600,000Cr. car, plus upgrades :P

Yeah the beginnings are the best, the surprise of not knowing what car you'll get and not being able to blast the opposition in 5 different series because you have a 600BHP car.

I bought a 2nd PS2 memory card today just to back up my old data. My advice to you is this: GT4 isn't the be all and end all of gaming experiences, so get into another game instead of doing GT4 again. Variety is the spice of life. 👍

Yeah but it's not everyday that you can drive a supercar in a thrilling race, have a wreck, not have to worry about insurance issues, and the like.
I love this game and everytime I see another clone come out for other gaming systems, stick with the best.

Oh, I'm not but 54% finished but am still having fun with it and like Duke mentioned, love to race to take the stress away from work, etc.

I've started over again after getting to about 97%, but this time I'm not buying anything (my first cars were obtained through licence tests). That means I'm driving lots of different cars than I did first time round, when after a while it seemed like I owned the keys to the candy store.

Today, I used the Alpine A110 1600S '73 to win the French series in the European Hall. What a nice little car, so small and pretty, too. It was up against a modern Clio, but won enough races to win the championship.

Used an old Renault Turbo to win the Euro Hot Hatch championship, also good close racing.

So far I'm up to 29% complete, and it's been more fun than the first time round.

Just my 0.02 € :
A Max Drive is cheaper than a second memory card, and it makes possible to back-up your game saves on your PC.
I have 2 memcards too (first one for GT4 game + replays, second one for all other games), but thanks to the Max Drive I have about 25 Mb of game saves on my PC too (including all my licences and WRS replays from GT3 and GT4).
Definitely worth being considered.

Back on topic : I stopped at about 75%. A bit bored by the dumb AI, by the crap rally races, and mostly because I have not enough free time to race and admin the WRS at the same time. :(

To make it a bit more challenging and to extend gameplay, here's a few examples:
  • aiming for 100,000 A-spec points
  • aim for no B-spec points at all or aim for 10,000
  • collect certain cars, whether it be a certain colour, make or country.
  • use the DFP throughout the whole game. try the WRS, WDS (Pending) or your own time attacks
    or
  • aim for 80 golds in the license tests.
Just a few examples you might want to consider when replaying the game. 👍

or do only races where you can get 200 A-spec points.

this doesn't necessarily mean driving Dodge Laramie.( like the wind, fully tricked out 911bhp GT-R and still got 200 A-spec points because the computer was driving LMP's and group C cars etc. i won by miles.. )
light, underpowered cars (MR2 '86, Miata/MX-5) are good choices for this. or then, you could go the bimmer route and spank the living hell out from M-coupe with stock 120i.

Flat-out

Yeah someone here told me about those, but I just don't trust 3rd party hardware when it comes to backing up my precious GT4 save data. :nervous:

You should.
My gamesaves are on my 3 laptops, plus I uploaded them on 3 different sites on the internet. You must admit that it's much safer than your single memcard. If it ever crashes, then you lose everything.
My memcards can crash, my PCs can crash, the Internet can crash, I'll still have my saves somewhere :D

Before I started over I was only playing once a week or so, now I'm playing several hours a day because it's so fun!
Of course it helps that there is nothing but reruns on TV & it's too hot to do much outside.

sounds fun, i am trying to collect all audi's in the game..

I might use my 2nd memory card to start again, just to see how far I can go on prize cars, or to experiment with minimal buys. The one thing that bothers me though is getting my licences all over again, some of those were hard.

Audis... There aren't many german cars... Try all of the german ones, or all of one single Japanese brand (try to get all the bazillion Nissans, including 10km Skylines!)

I'm finding the license test much easier this time thru, tests that I struggled with are going much easier with the experiance I built up in the game.
I bronzed my way thru them originally & have all silver & gold this time so far, only 8 more tests to get my S license.

I've actually managed to gold my first ones now, after 33% of GT4 progress. I found my control WAY easier than it was when I started out. Still, i'm lacking 8 tests to my own S licence, only I haven't done it yet, first time through.

Ya me too, I started afresh last night and played for hours. I got all Silvers in my basic license and won a Mazda Kusabi. Then I got mostly Silvers, a few Golds and about 3 Bronzes for the next test. I will see how far I can go on these 2 licenses first.

I used the Kusabi to race in all the Beginner hall and Manufacturer events I could. Then I added a Racing Exhaust, Racing Chip, Nitrous, Carbon Driveshaft, Racing Flywheel and Stage 1 Weight Reduction (all fairly cheap tunings) and conquered the first Special Conditions race to win the Cadillac Cien. I added Nitrous to it and Racing Medium Tyres (to win the Option Stream Z).

Then I did all the events I could in Beginner and Professional, until I won the Option Stream Z. I used that in the Manufacturer race to win a 70's 240 Z, which I then used in the Japanese 70's Classics race to unlock yet another car. I'm having fun with this, seeing how far I can get without buying any cars and spending as little as possible on tuning. I still have the VW Lupo to enter into its manufacturing event, so my options are open. 👍

If I get bored with a particular race or ralley, go about buying cars that I would personally own in real life.
I've got 63 cars in my garage now, still collecting, and always racing to get enough money to support my car habit. :dopey:

I'll have to try to get better on the licenses though and sounds like a good idea.
I bronzed most of the licenses to get the license but haven't thought about upgrading to better placement on those.
Sounds like a plan.
Now if I just had the patience to keep trying.

Other things to try:

Start over and try to reach 100% in the fewest game days possible (see the link in my signature).

Start over and try to complete 100% (or get as far as you can) driving as few different cars as possible (with the obvious exception of the license tests and driving missions).

Start over and try to reach 1 million (or 5 million or 10 million) "Total Prize Credits" as quickly as possible.

See how far you can get in the game with a voluntary HP limit -- don't drive any car which reads more than 276 HP in your garage.

Plenty of ideas of ways to make the game more of a challenge and have a little fun at the same time.

Browse GTP and take a look at all online races that are currently running.
Racing against people from all over the world is a great challenge : you'll eventually see if you're the king of GT as your neighbors tell you everyday. :mischievous:

And I daresay you should try WRS immediately!

Still though, there are many greater racers out there than those here at GTP.
'VeilSidebr' being an exception though. 👍
