Ok, so... um... the Car Draw Comps kinda died and well I'm getting depressed about it. I've talked to Omnis on what we should do. He's a bit busy and I'm not so I was thinking of taking over the car draw comps with his permission. Omnis and I feel that it doesn't matter who is in charge of these comps it's up to you guys. So, with that said I'd like to get feedback on what you guys think the comps should be.

Thanks

Nick

Not draw car X. I'd like to see design. Design something. The next generation car X. The next model from model Y in segment Z, to compete with car W. Take some time to think up an interesting design brief, something that everyone can enjoy drawing. If people take an interest in the topic, they'll take interest in what they themselves put down on paper. More interesting entries get people thinking and motivated, which gets more entries and more participation. I tried running a design competition a few years ago, and the boring subject killed it. It was design a new Skyline. Couldn't get more borign than that... What I do if I need to get inspiration to draw, I look at some professional design portfolios and I see somehting that I can change, that I can improve on. I eventually get motivated enough to draw somehting. If we get some newbie who hasn't drawn ever come up and say "whoa, that's a wicked cool subject. I always wanted to see this or that in a car" and they'll pick up a pencil and draw. Interesting topics. Invent a situation, explain it, make people evaluate their thoughts and rethink what they have to work with to come to a final product that had time put into it on both ends, the organizers and the participants. To be frank, "draw a Golf" was what killed the whole program.

yeah...it doesn't matter who's in charge. if nobody posts drawings, there is no competition.

"draw a golf" was the only thing requested/suggested. sorry for doing someone a favor.

i think there should just be more of a gallery. draw whatever and just post up your weekly project. it's up to you guys now, though. vipfreak and I, and whoever else, can manage and stuff...it's not a problem for me as long as there are a good bunch of participants.

It doesn't matter who thought of it, the thread proved itself; noboy participated. I'm sorry, but there simply isn't any other way to see it.

I'll participate in anything I find interesting, I'm not going to waste my time scanning and editing a drawing, that takes almost longer than actually drawing it in the first place. Getting new (and more) participants would require interesting subject matter, otherwise they will pass up on the event, because they couldn't be bothered to spend all of that time.

that was my point. i was hoping that people would actually take initiative and post what they felt they wanted to do. this way, things could be a lot more democratic. that didn't really happen, and so i always had to make decisions. sorry, but i tried.

dictating tasks and stuff never really works out in the end. we've proof of that. however, it came to that because this place wasn't really that communal, and communication with me hasn't happened. my aim SN is right there at the bottom of my posts.

but anyway, let's move past this. what's done is done. what's next for the AAC?

I haven't had time of late to do any new artwork reason I have not been entering of late.

I think we should drop the timed competitions. With many participants like in the photomode section it's ok, but with relatively little participants to begin with, it's a bad idea to start making more restrictions. I think this should be like the regular photomode section. There can be threads (started by any members) with any themes. Like what there is now: "car x", but chosen by anyone who feels like it, and no limitation on the time or anything... that's just where all the drawings of that car go. Or themes like "airborne cars", "drag racing", anything. Including personal galleries and designs (like eliseracer suggested) like "check out my car" or "alternate designs for car x".
With less restrictions there will obviously be more participation... Timed, restricted competitions obviously don't work...

I guess now that I think about it Melaneimoon's idea of just making threads might be nice. I have WIPs all over the place that I've done and it would be cool to get feedback or see what other people would do of them too.

Ok this is how I've worked it out...

So if you have a car you'd like to see drawn use GTPAAC: (insert vehicle name here) as the title. This is good because instead of a competition we will just be posting vehicles we'd like to see get drawn differently. Purely just to see your version of how you'd design that car. If you don't want to enter that's fine, just enter in the threads you'd like to.

The only thing I'd like to see is a Formal Poll so that we could maybe get outside feedback and people can see what we've done from the original all together. This will only work if we advertise (like always).

If you have any suggestions or comments let me know. I just wanted to get the ball rolling again.

Nick :D

Well that's good for threads on particular cars (and their versions). But such threads would include both design changes and just realistic copies right?
So could there also be threads according to themes other than car model? Like "minivans" or "chases",...

Unfortunately, I think that we all have to admit that the Drawing Forums here on GTPlanet are unofficially dead. With little to no response or feedback to the new format, very slow interaction among other drawing threads, I do believe that this tiny drawing community has passed away. It is with great disappointment that I admit this, because GTP is my favorite forum, and I would have loved to interact and share with these board's members on this topic. Someone might say that it isn't dead or anything, but taking a look at the current threads and their popularity, they are, without a doubt, inactive. Although the forum may stay unlocked, I hardly think it's worth my time checking it every day. I tried to give my part, but there's not much one person can do when the whole forum is a ghost town. I'd be glad to help others and give pointers through PM and e-mail, like usual.
