Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

"The sale won't get to me this time."

On the bright side, I can finally try GTR2 again after having the broken discs for 9 years...
Also being cheap by buying the Assetto Corsa DLC while on sale instead of its original release price :sly:

Handful of games on my wishilist are on sale, but none deep enough for me to justify pulling the trigger.

Did pick up a game called Kairo which wasn't on my wishlist. It was only a buck and looked interesting (or at the very least, didn't look like one of the plethora of lazily produced cash grabs that typically flood the dirt-cheap end of the spectrum on Steam...)

They're both 40% off.
I love you.

I love the summer and winter sales, my checking account cries a little each time...

Doom for $35.99 seams like a good deal, and I am considering pulling the trigger on "The Crew" if anyone has experience with the latter, I'd appreciate it. Or any other helpful advice on similar.

I'm eyeing two games on my wishlist. Boderlands 2 GoTY and AOE II HD Edition. Also ETS is very interesting. I'll see what I buy.

I'm fairly underwhelmed by the deals this year, nothing on my wishlist is deeply discounted enough for me to absolutely have to have it.

I think for the price, ETS2 is great fun. I got it for about $7 or so, and love it, soooo many mods available too.

How are the LEGO games? I have not played any of them.

From what I've heard, they vary in quality a fair bit but the more recent ones are pretty good. I have a few but haven't played enough to form a helpful opinion.

I decided to set myself a budget of £50 and picked up some things:

Subnautica
Metro: Last Light redux
Neon Struct
BlazeRush
Polybridge
The Beginner's Guide and
Just Cause 3.

That should keep me going for some time. I still kind of want Volo Airsport though!

Finally able to buy DOOM. First time I got an error. Second time it declined my card. But the game is in my library lol.

Surprised it downloaded quickly, too. Considering it's a whopping 53gb download, it completed in 2-3 hours.

Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis went on sale. The complete EU4 package including all DLCs is 75% off and sits at ~24 bucks. Gotta pull the trigger on that.

/edit:
Just watching a Let's Play and I feel like I'd be dropping the game again in a week because it's just way too complex for me to actually relax while playing it :indiff:
Bought it. Downloading and installing right now.

Can't resist 75% off. I'm a terrible human being, sometimes

/edit2:
Bought the wrong pack in the heat of the moment. Steam Support refunded my purchase in less than an hour, though 👍

Subnautica is on my list, think that might have to be a buy.

Yeah, some Steam friends seem to love it and I found myself (a while ago) wanting an exploration/survival game set at sea or on an island. World of Diving looks a bit pointless and Stranded Deep is maybe still too young and being developed too slowly, so Subnautica fit that bill nicely and wasn't too expensive, but I can't play it until at least Monday.

I fear you might be right, @David - Pay day is around the corner and I did 17 hours of overtime in May, so that's guilt-free spare cash... No holidays booked for July or August, either. We'll see, I suppose.

New deals for today don't come online for a few more hours, so there's nothing to report unless you didn't look at all yesterday.

Oh  I forgot that the "Highlighted Deals" section at the top of the page wasn't actually the daily deals anymore. I think they stopped a few sales ago (and definitely by the time they started the refund system) because it kinda sucked to buy something on sale one day and then find it even cheaper the next day.

When did they ditch the daily deals? And why?

Gaben decided against daily deals before the Autumn/Winter sales.

He who shall deliver us to the Promised Land
“We’ll still be highlighting your top games on the front page for 24-48 hour spans, but those products will stay at their most competitive discount, before and after being featured.”

“It’s not a major change, but it does make the sale a lot more valuable for customers, and it allows us to build sale features that recommend your product all sale long, instead of just during its front page feature.”

“For a brand new release, if you can’t get approval for your best discount for the full length of the sale, that’s OK and we can work on a plan for that game. But the vast majority of your catalog should be running its best discount for the duration of the sale.”

When did they ditch the daily deals? And why?

Ages ago, probably the first or second sale they did after refunds became a thing. If you can be bothered to read back through the thread you'd probably find when, I'm pretty sure it was discussed.

They dropped them to prevent people from being able to get a refund for a game they bought before the sale and then rebuying it at the lower price, I suppose.

So I think I'm going to take the leap on the ETS2. For 5,99€ can't go wrong and I'm still acessing the possibilty of getting Borderlands 2 GoTY, but it's 95% certain. In the next few sales I'll be trying to complete the Borderlands collection. I'll have a look for KSP as well, if the price is good I might buy over the other 2.

These will be my only possible additions to my ever growing list. GTA5 and Arma 3 are still too expensive for me (not financially independent) to buy.

Already broke my vow lol. As well as all the planes for Rise of Flight, I got Hearts of Iron 3 as it was just £1.99.

Also what is the opinion on Far Cry 4? I have been considering that too. I played 3 and enjoyed it.

So I think I'm going to take the leap on the ETS2.

ETS2 is certainly worth it, great game if you need a change of pace comparing to other games, loads of great mods available.
If you also get the North and East expansion dlc, be sure to get the Promods mod which is one of the best mod out there.

I gave in. I bought Driver: Parallel Lines. 4.99 but it was worth it. Quite nostalgic since the last time i played it was on the original Xbox. A long time ago at my friends.
