Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

Bought Dungeon Siege 3, kinda wish that I didnt. Initial thoughts are that the game is junk, badly ported console game that has strayed far from its roots. After playing Diablo 3, another action RPG I felt this was just terrible.

I might give it another go and play through, but so disapointed as I loved Dungeon Siege 2.
I liked it alot on PS3. I did read the pc version was not so well received though.

Started playing Skyrim a few minutes ago. Checked how late it is just now...holy...4 hours later.

I bought The Perfect Journey earlier on, after playing Gemini Rue earlier in the year (great game by the way, but then it's inspired by Cowboy Bebop so it was always going to be pretty awesome) I realised that I really miss adventure games. TPJ is supposedly worth playing so for £1.74 I figured I might as well.

Just played a bit of NFS: Hot Pursuit, my initial reaction was 'WHAT?! No cockpits?' but after driving around for a bit I grew to like it, it's very clearly a Criterion game but not as good as Burnout Paradise in my opinion. Then again, playing as the police adds something new to that formula so maybe it's better in some respects. I don't regret it for £5 but would've for £10, so I'm glad I waited.

Speaking of waiting, I'm trying so hard to fight the urge to buy Wings of Prey (not a single person has recommended or, er, decommended (?) it to me for some reason), to the point where I keep putting it in my cart, clicking through until I have to agree to the ToS, then I decide against it. I feel like I should just buy IL-2: 1946 instead, but the graphics... Yeah, the graphics are swaying my decision unfortunately. I wish there was a demo of IL-2 I could try. I also thought about waiting for World of Warplanes but it'll be free to play and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Oh and the sale this year has been a joke, why put on a week-and-a-half-long sale if you're going to offer everything in the first four days?

From what I have read a long time ago Wings of Prey was the better one of the two. But I do not remember clearly.

I have Wings of Prey though and it is really good. I don't know about IL-2 as I don't have that game nor have I played it.

The games I bought so far are

Trine, Trine 2, Ys Origin, Ys The Oath in Falghena, Dirt Showdown, Beyond Good & Evil.

Also the rest of my Steam library contains about 234 games now I think. So I own almost every major game on Steam. lol

I'm not even sure what I'm going to buy. I hopefully plan to buy a few thing for my PC by Monday. I have about $250 to spend on three things for my PC. The only game I want is ARMA 2:CO but i'm looking at other games. Any cheap recommendations.

neema, definitely get 1946. It's still considered one of the best WWII airplane sim out there. I happen to have it. It's a little dated but the physics and sheer number of planes you can fly more than makes up for it.

Thanks, I'm now pretty much hanging off the fence on the 'buy it immediately' side, but I still want to hold out until the end of the sale... Two more days! Also I too have over 230 games, maybe that's why this sale has been so boring for me. Still expensive though, somehow, I've spent over £50 already!

Yeah, I definitely want to but it's only 33% off at this point so I'm not really feeling it right now. I am, after all, agonising over £2.50 for Wings of Prey, IL-2 is nearly £7 so there can and probably will be better discounts than that in an ordinary daily deal if it doesn't get discounted further in the sale. Even if there's not, I could afford it at full price when I get paid next, but that's not until next month now... I get the 'horrible feeling' that when I do get paid, though, I'm going to pick up a Saitek X52. No point having flight sims if you're using a keyboard and mouse to control them, right?

How dare you talk down on my beloved NFS:HP? It's worth full price. Full price I tell ya! Or double that maybe :dopey:

Actually I've just spent another half an hour or so on it (playing as police only so far) and I must admit, it had me grinning like a crazy person the entire time. Still, Steam sales have ruined my perception of value, when you consider I got all of the GTA games for £5 a long time ago (and that deal was on again in this sale) it's hard to see how NFS: HP could possibly be worth £10 compared to that! That's just what Steam has done to my brain, unfortunately.

Wow, do it. That thing has been on my "to buy" list for so long. When I got X-Plane, I got me a CH Yoke and throttle quadrant to enhance the experience.

These games are quite more expensive than you initially think they will be...

Ah great, thank you, this pretty much confirms I'll get Wings of Prey if I buy nothing else. It sounds like what BF3 is to Arma II or what NFS Shift 2 is to rFactor; Authentic, exciting but not realistic, and most importantly it's cheap!

So true, so very true... But where would we be without sim gear like wheels, sticks, TrackIR and stuff? We'd be using 360 pads, no thanks!

As for today's deals, if you don't have Deus Ex: Human Revolution I seriously recommend it, same goes for Driver: San Francisco, I was skeptical at first but it's kind of like a racing/strategy/puzzle game because of the 'Shift' ability that lets you take control of other cars so you can, for example, use an oncoming bus to ram a car you're chasing, then go back to your car and hit it from behind to damage it loads. It's got a good selection of cars (there's an Alfa Romeo TZ2 in it!), the city is awesome, the challenges that replicate scenes from famous films (movies) is great fun too.

I personally don't think Crysis 2 is worth what they're asking, especially not with DX:HR and D:SF at those prices. It's decent, yeah, and if you just want a good first person shooter then it's probably better than F3AR (I've not played any of them though), it's definitely gorgeous to look at, but otherwise it's just a bit generic and samey. The indie bundle today is actually quite good, I don't have Capsized nor Zeno Clash but I do have the other three and I quite enjoyed all three.

Oh and if you're a fan of casual stealthy-ish 3rd person shooters, Splinter Cell: Conviction is quite good. It has Ubisoft's abominable always-on DRM but you can turn it off (as long as you don't want to play online, but as the DRM is only a problem if you lose your connection then that doesn't matter I guess). It's not the best Splinter Cell (Chaos Theory is) but it's brilliant value at that price. Far Cry 2 is probably about the same, it's not stellar but it's a lot of fairly competent game for £2.49.

Yeah, I know. I've bought 15 games so far on the sale. To be realistic, I won't even find the time to play them all.

I'll try though! :)

I finally caved and bought Wings of Prey, that then prompted me to also buy Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. I REALLY hope nothing good happens from now until the last day... A friend also gifted me nearly £3 of Magicka DLC (the same friend who gifted me the game) so I got him a copy of ITSP too, it does look great.

Burnout Paradise, if you're considering it I say don't bother, just buy it without thinking, it's excellent. However if you have a PS3 you might want to get it on that instead because the Island DLC (which was great) never came out on PC.

Can someone in the States or Australia/NZ (or an insomniac in the UK or EU) kindly post what the community choice sales are after ITSP and Monkey Island finish please? I think I'll probably sleep through whatever replaces ITSP so it's only out of curiosity really.

Cheers!

For me it shows Far Cry 2 after Monkey Island, ITSP, and Burnout Paradise

Dawn of War Franchise series?

Its just under 18 quid for all the series including DLC. Original cost is over 200 quid. Hm. Tempting. But wondering if the DLC actually add value or not to the series?

ARMA II is 40% off!

Well, I told myself at the start of the sale that if Arma II dropped to £15 I'd buy it for a friend as it's his birthday on Monday... I've massively overspent as it is but a deal's a deal! I also got myself the PMC DLC.

Sorry, I couldn't tell you. I'm sure the game(s) is (are) fine without the DLC, I seem to recall Space Marine (different genre, same franchise and publisher)'s DLC was mostly cosmetic and therefore worthless though.

I own them and play them. I'm not 100% but pretty sure that being able to play different races is dlc related. And that matters. I recommend reserach on that before purchase. Love DoW2 though, especially Chaos Rising.

Is this the last batch of daily deals? I'm just curious because it says "Until 22nd" and I'm not sure if they'll offer new daily deals on the 22nd as well.

No, there should be another day tomorrow, there was a list circulating on the Internet of the eleven daily Indie Bundles, we've had ten so there'll be one more sale tomorrow. I expect it'll be an encore sale of all the best selling deals so far, they've done that the last couple of times I think.

Well, I can't believe they haven't put any Half-Life on sale so far. :(

It looks like I'm going to have to purchase them at 50% off instead of 75%. Oh well. Still another day left, but not holding my breath.

Skip the coffee at work tomorrow and it will make up for it. :P

Now that you've said that I bet you $5 there's a Half Life sale tomorrow!

S'up I'm here to collect. :dopey::P

That's enough to buy HL1. :D

I kid, I'll buy them tonight just to ensure they don't come up in any flash sales later today.

I was wrong! But there are still flash sales left...

I kind of want Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. and the sequel, is that really bad? I just want to fly stuff and I really liked and miss Ace Combat 3. I shouldn't spend any more money though. That Tom Clancy pack looks pretty good, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six 3 were two of the games I practically grew up playing and of course the Splinter Cell franchise is well known for being great, but I'd be surprised if there's anyone out there willing to spend £30 still.
