I'm coming in late with reinforcing data, and 5 cents worth of free advice.
I know, all too well. My job puts me in contact with people like you, and the unlucky folks you may encounter.
You talk about dying as a non-event. My kids would beg to differ if you maim or kill me or their mother. Being sorry won't bring anybody back or undo any injuries you cause.
Back to the job part... See, I am a rehab nurse. I end up with the
folks who survive. Yeah, unlucky, there are some things worse than simply dying. (the RANT begins)
My advice to you is to look up a Rehab hospital in your area, go there. See all the young people that have been maimed, had brain injuries, lost limbs, etc. because they were involved, voluntarily or involuntarily in street racing.
I took care of a woman under 35 years old who was brain injured in a car wreck. She can't control her bowels and bladder, She will never work again, she may never walk again, and someone will have to care for her until she dies, which probably won't be soon as she was otherwise fairly athletic and healthy. She did manage to save her stepson's life. By turning the vehicle so that her side took the brunt of the crash. And the worst part... the MVA wasn't her fault. Some kid hot-rodding in a pick-up managed to total her and the car that was following her (which contained more of her family) in a loss of control head on collision. Believe me this is not my only car wreck story.
No one is invincible or immune.
I love the job security you could provide. But I prefer little old ladies with broken hips.
Racing is for Race tracks
You say you went to Skip Barber's school. Call him. Ask his opinion. If you are a "talent", he will tell you to quit street racing and come to the track where you belong.
Otherwise, remember you ain't Dale Earnhardt...no wait, he got killed in a racing car on a track, You ain't no Arynton Senna... wait he got killed too. And they were pros. Doing their thing in a sanctioned, legal, racing event. If you get the urge to go racing please take my above advice first. Maybe, you'll lose the taste for it completly.
