So they're near GT-500 cars. That's... rather strange and backwards, no?
When they haven't run to such power limits since the late 90s, not really. Both classes are between 150 and 200 up I'd say - so GT300 is 450/500, GT500 is 650/700.

Not really, GT500s are over 600hp at this point, and even that seems to be a conservative estimate.

So in essence both names are just purely cosmetic at this point, right? Neither classes have the horsepower rating that the names would lead you to guess...

So, they've been lying to us.

Wait...

"They quote it lower on the stand, but that's just an agreement between the Japanese manufacturers..."

Why would there be an agreement over what a race-spec engine makes? It's not like the gentlemen's agreement is still followed.

Sorry for the double post, but regarding GT300 power:

As you may know, the STi Performance Concept, revealed yesterday, uses the GT300 EJ20 from the BRZ. Subaru quote the power, officially, at 345bhp. However, Dominik Infante from Subaru had the following to say:

So, there we have it folks. The JAF GT300 cars run at about 450bhp.
With the air restrictor removed, if I'm not mistaken.

OBTW, the 2015 season commences this weekend. :D

To be fair, the Japanese do that a lot. Remember the "300hp gentlemen's rule" on power output? Yeah, I doubt an R34 GT-R makes 300hp.
280hp it was, even though most claim the R34 was making around 350..

Are these races going to be shown on Fox Sports in Australia?

 Holy SNAPS!

Doubt it, they never have.
I remember Speedvision nee SPEED Channel now Fox Sports 1 in the US had the 30 minute highlight shows (not in the Gekisou GT format) back in the early Oughties when they brought the series over to the US for the GT Live event. Sadly they haven't been on TV in the US since.

Amd since @05XR8 brought it up? Will the races be shown live online on YouTube? Hopefully, Radio Le Mans and Nismo can put together a deal with SuperGT before Sugo for a full season package.

That last bit is interesting...

It is, but it could mean a lot of things. It could be the full race, or just a short recap of it. But an official stream of the races? Hell yeah, as long as they don't make it Japan-exclusive (hate that sort of services)...
Well, it says "fully" and "broadcast", so I at least hope they're showing it...

I do so too. I'm just worried to go to the website and see that dreaded message:

"Sorry, this service is not available outside of Japan."

God, I hope not...

My usual stream site doesn't show Super GT on their schedule. I'd love to be able to watch it on the official website. I'm sure a proxy could get around any regional limitations.

Looking forward to getting up early sunday and maybe tomorrom to see this amazing series getting started.
My 3rd season now following and with Ferrari back amongst GT300, that's my obvious favourite and i hope the Prius and motherchassiscars can make the life of GT3-cars hard!

If i'm not mistaken the 2 drivers are former gt300-champs.. So should be competitive!
But my best luck goes to the Prius.. The team deserves some luck this season! :)

usually the nissan ustream is just of their pits

I asked NISMO on twitter this about an hour ago if they are going to stream like they did the last round last year. will post up what they tell me

I remember the DTM and V8 Supercar recaps on Speed Channel(plus BTCC, dems were the good ol days). I also remember that Super GT exhibition in California. That was for the Autobacs grand opening. Good stuff.

Ah ha, so there WAS a ulterior motive for that race! :D

A pity I couldn't go to any of those stores when they were open in the States. :(

They should come to Auto Club again...in my dreams. :/

Yep. Back then, I would drive out to New Jersey to buy BMI and Hot Version videos from EWA hobbies. I came across a Super Street magazine issue that had an ad for the event.
