Guess Germany is screwed over again due to GEMA not allowing any Youtube streams here. Guess I'll have to hope the low quality stream I've been using the past years will have a JSports4 stream instead of the crisp Radio LeMans version.

Does anyone know if RLM streams parallel on other services than Youtube? My japanese is only good enough to pick up a bit on what is being said on J-Sports4.

Does the stream I've posted say something like it's unavailable rather than showing you a black screen and a countdown?

Youtube
Live Streaming is not available in your country due to rights issues.
Sorry about that.
:/
Thats what it shows me when I click the Youtube video you posted.

Just do what you can with the J Sports BS feed (in Japan, BS stands for "Broadcast Satellite", not... yea, you know) until after the race.
After the race, the Nissan/RLM stream will become available worldwide as a standard YouTube video.

Might be useful for future races, but I'll have to check out if I can access a Japanese sattelite in Germany (geo-position and all). I think I have an old satellite dish stowed away somewhere. I was too young in the prime of satellite TV, so I'll have to check up on how to properly set it up as well.

A little GT300 horsepower test:

I took the BRZ on GT6, tuned it fully (to 445hp), and stuck RS tyres on it (what I feel the closest is to a fresh set of Super GT rubber when working well with the track).

I took it to Fuji, and tried to get as close as I could to the 1:33 GT300 record. It'd give a vague indication as to how much power they're running. After 5 good laps, the best I could get was 5 seconds off. Absolute best. It was on my best setup too, so I honestly can't see where I could make up time.

Very interesting little test. Not a precise reflection of reality, but it does indicate the kind of power levels they have.

It's not power, it's downforce. Check out last years Autopolis race for a great example of the different ways the GT3 and GT300 cars make their laptimes. The GT300 cars are quite slow in a straight line (relatively speaking) but blisteringly quick through the corners. IIRC, they were 2 seconds up on the GT3 cars in the final sector.

Take a look at 47:47. The Prius drives straight around the BMW Z4 GT3. Next lap around it overtakes a GT-R GT3 on the pit straight. Do you really think a high-drag 300 or 350 hp machine could keep with, never mind overtake, a lower-drag 500 hp machine on a long straight?

There's no doubt the JAF GT machines have high downforce (some more than others), but it's the drag associated with that downforce that slows them down on the straights just as much, if not more, than the power deficit. The power deficit is often overstated.

Can't watch at the moment, but happy to be corrected by sometime more knowledgeable than me, I only began watching Super GT in 2013. However during last years Autopolis race, I remember there being a clear and significant difference between the GT3 and GT300 cars, with the GT3's being roughly 5 - 7 tenths quicker in the first two sectors, but then the GT300's making it all up in the final sector to be about a half a second quicker over the whole lap. I thought it was a brilliant matchup!

The GT300 cars are also much lighter than the GT3 cars, so they'll accelerate quicker and that'll make up for the power deficit somewhat anyways.

I don't think that's unusual. This sort of thing also occurs in GT3-only classes where there is a pronounced difference in the nature of the sectors (Bathurst, Paul Ricard). The BRZ GT300 car starts with a bit less power and less weight (1150kg, which is 50-150 kg less than competing GT3 machines), so it'll have an inherent advantage through corners and a weakness on the straights, even before the aero packages are taken into account. Running a high-downforce package will only accentuate those advantages and weaknesses.

The BRZ was the lightest car in the class last season, but the hybrids are amongst the heaviest cars in GT300.

Goedmorning from Europe and enjoy the race!

Haha first crash of the season: japanese cop sliding his motorbike haha

Edit: Prius is flying hard!

that Calsonic GTR must have a problem. Did the Z4 just pass and leave it for dead just them?

Enjoyed watching that. Would have rather listened to original Japanese commentary though. This just sounded like a couple of guys watching on television and narrating rather than actual commentary.

I really like how JSports4 improved the broadcast this year. Displaying class leaders above the leader board scroll and the split screen segments where nice additions. Somehow Super GT always has that one car making a huge dash in the last couple of laps. Really exciting to watch.

I kind of liked the casual feeling of it to be honest.

That's because RLM were doing that. Nismo only feed them JSports pictures, they have to work it out for themselves - last night I was helping Hindy with entry lists.

I don't think it's possible to get Japanese Broadcast Satellite television from Germany. Even then, J Sports is a pay channel, and you'll just get black screen unless you're paying. Combine that with the fact that Sky PerfecTV's support desk will hang you up for being in the faraway magical land of Deutschland, I have no idea as to how you can receive J Sports outside of Japan.

I can't get over how this series has managed to consistently produce such exciting racing in an era littered with relative boredom (and I'm not being a grouch, there is great racing all over the world, but not on such a consistent basis). Is it really just the tyre war? Whatever it is, they've absolutely nailed it.

Tyre war, driver quality, manufacturer war, ballast, perfect regs.

A fan concept for a Mazda6/Atenza GT300 car.

Not sure if the Mai-Otome livery would work on the car, but I approve the idea of a Mazda 6 touring car, especially the latest model. Imagine seeing the new Kodo-designed car with a racing bodkit...

Man, everyone is aiming for Itasha liveries in GT300 these days... Must've been Goodsmile Racing's Miku-aided victory that inspired the other teams.
