Should we all turn off our mics before race start?

Please be respectful. Also, the mods will close the thread or ban people.

I typed the message of no passing 1st corner numerous time, for people w/o mic. There really is no excuse for not following that simple instruction. Please also note that the whole room waited for the last few people who joined to qualify. A little modesty and gratitude will go a long way.

Sorry snoop. The ol' temper got the best of me. Just think the race would have gone much smoother without those 2 jokers.

exactly everyone else follow the rule, i didn't because i wasn't paying attention or read what you wrote it was with no intention of not to follow the rules. i raced the 1st race with no lag, i didn't know i was lagging.

Godangit, no worries. Great race and congrats on the win. You were fast all week and even with the multiple starts and aborted race, you still pulled it off. Impressive. I need to follow you during the practices more.

Switching topics, I wonder why when there is lag in the room, only some people are affected and not others. Does that mean that the people with the fast connection (maybe roadrash and me?) are affected more and people with super fast connection do not suffer? Has anyone had any experience? In my online experience, generally when the lagging person is not in the room, everything works fine.

Maybe next time, DJ can change the course before we start qualifying. That way, we can see who is the slowest to sync and how slow that is?

I also believe that we need a parade lap with so many racers. When there were only 6 or 8 racers, a standing start was sufficient. But with over 12 racers, fast cars, and everyone racing to the first turn, too much chance for incidents. If a race was a low PP or low HP race, then maybe the parade lap is not necessary.

Next race is GT500 at Suzuka. The first 2 turns could be messy too. I will PM DJ separately as well, but I want to see how everyone feels about the parade lap idea.

So.....ncrthree, he hit the back of me sending me into the wall (looks like he glitched maybe?) Its hard to tell. Then there was another pile up as I returned to the track, roadrash had an incident and is going backward in front of me, I hit him and then mattics71. Snoop had no where to go so I got hit more and that was pretty much it. I have a feeling when I got hit I messed up others. Sorry if I smacked anyone but I got punted into you if you were a victim. I think I clipped roadrash as well.

1st turn rule does not work. I was behind some not racing fast to the turn so they would not pass those in front of them. This equates to those in front getting further ahead and going slower myself, making my car more susceptible to getting rear ended.

JT, I agree that 1st corner did not work too well. I am borrowing from another series I just joined (LeMons to LeMans; https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=197282):

Starting Grid: Single file start after one pace lap.

Instructions for the Pole sitter:
Maintain 40-60mph during the first lap to allow cars to line up single file. A few hundred feet before the start/finish accelerate to racing speed.

Instructions for everyone else:
Wait for the car in front of you to line up. Do not pass on the first lap. Passing is only allowed AFTER you cross the start finish line. Be prepared to start accelerating as you enter the last turn. Drive cautiously into the first few turns. The car in front of you likely will be running faster lap times so a divebomb to get around him won't do you much good.

wonderful, Idea. we can also warm up the lyres a bit for a good start.

Parade laps suck. No one listens, everyone tries to get ahead as close as they can, some line up single, some line up staggered, some pump the gas and hit you, some warm up tires too much and hit you, some overtake before the line, some hit the gas before the line, some end up not knowing the race is on, the leader never knows exactly when to go, there are gaps in the grid, all of a sudden nobody knows what a 3 car length gap is, all of a sudden nobody knows what 60mph is. Anything else I missed? 1st turn carnage is 1st turn carnage. I am complaining about getting wrapped at the 1st turn this race because we were all supposed to be little princesses in glass slippers. F@$k that, game on. Race it at the green. Am I wrong? Enough of this tip toe stuff.

Xavier, it is our job to follow and obey the rules. I know this is just a game, but we are treating it like a simulation of some sorts. So I will use a real life analogy. If I passed under a yellow flag for example, I could be given a drive-through penalty or black flagged. If I tell the stewards that I did not see the yellow flag, I am pretty sure that is not going to cut it.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your explanation as to why you disregarded the rule.

I also understand why you are defensive about your lagging. It is impossible to know when you are lagging, except when other people tell you so. The lagging in this game, by its very nature, means that the lagging person does not know he is lagging. Everyone else will see it. If you have ever raced with someone who is lagging, then you will appreciate the difficulties that lagging presents. Normally, the host will jump out of the race and kick the lagging person.

Also, your connection may be fine with a smaller grid. Lagging is intensified with a full grid.

That's right.

JT, there are downsides to parade lap for sure, but only when people are not familiar and not following the rules. In the examples you listed, those occur all because people are not following the rules. A parade lap is the same idea as a safety car. 1st turn carnage is acceptable in an online sprint race of 5 laps or so, but when we are running 45 minutes minimum, there should be no contact at the first corner.

Now, I am all for race to the first corner. I am great at starting off the line and I usually pick off at least 2 cars. However, I am trying to have discussions on how we can make the races more fun and enjoyable. Being punted into the sand at Suzuka turn 1 is not fun for sure.

thank you sir, i understand and glad you said things correctly.I do take this as real as i can. But trust me I'm not going to be so dumb about skipping people on purpose when i was lapping low 1.13s you saw with your own eyes i was racing for 1st place and skipping didn't help because of the crash up front so i didn't gain nothing from those 4 places. But thank you, and i agree with what you said.

Next race, if I'm lagging again i wont race, period.

I just watched the first 10 laps or so. First off apologies to roadrash I hit you on lap 7 and to snoop, I hit you on lap 10.

I scanned through various racers views, Xavier was definitely jumpy. the car was perpendicular to the wall several times, jumped around and what not, however there were several others that were doing it to some degree also. I don't know how the lag effects other racers, some are rock steady, that was me for both races. I tend to have 20-30mb on cable. So if someone is lagging bad would that cause those on good but weaker connections to lag too? How do you figure out the weakest link?

I've been in a lot of series, mostly SuperGT. I've use every kind of start there is; normal standing, parade lap with single file, parade lap with staggered. Any of them can work, the problem is not with the start, it's with the starters. As a wise man said "nothing is fool proof to a sufficiently talented fool".

People are so afraid they won't be leading after the first turn, or that "the leaders will get away" that all common sense goes out the window when the countdown goes green. Changing the type of start will not fix a lack of common sense.

We couldn't do one simple corner, how would we put a parade lap together??

That's right. My fear is that the tip toe through turn 1 didn't work, what a mess it will be for rolling. I do rolling in the GTP Prototype Series all the time. No issues, but all the racers get it. Let's try it and see.

What I don't like is coaching of the start. One guy telling the pole sitter when to go. What's the sense of a rolling start if there is an audible? The pole sitter should be told he can go anytime he likes after he reaches the pit lane wall.

I'm with you on this one, the easiest way is to simply race, we all have to be aware that there are a lot of people trying to get through the first corner on cold tyres and that a 30+ lap race will not be won there. Just follow the basic rules, there's no need to be so aggressive in the first turn, take an opportunity if you see one but really try hard to just get through the turn clean, when the pack starts to spread and your tyres warm up start making your moves.

This is supposed to just be FUN racing. I don't understand why all of a sudden we need to start imposing a bunch of new rules and regulations.

Turn 1 has always been a problem and always will. It will suck just as bad to have a pile-up in turn 2. Let's just go on green and hopefully have enough respect towards your fellow drivers not to much things up and get on with it.

Um, I don't think I hit anyone at the start of the race. Heading into the 1st turn i was slow because I spun at race start. 2 red cars passed me on the right before entering that turn. I know we were meant to not pass at first but because of my traction issue, it was understandle. Both of those cars crashed and I went underneath them thru turn 1. It looked like a red Evo(yours?) and whoever was behind him. From my perspective it appeared the car behind the Evo had either made contact or that both cars hadn't braked enough to make the turn.

Way later in the race, I accidently made contact with a red Evo on the nasty left turn before the straight. As the Evo was a lap down, I continued on. Sorry to whoever that was, that turn can be wicked.

Overall the rest of the race went real clean for me and had some good back and forth with logan and grayfox. Wish I hadn't pitted twice...maybe, maybe could have caught up to Xavier. The only issue I had were the late arrivals but since the private lobby was lagging that point was moot. Looking forward to next week, hopefully I can practice with some of you guys.

I think it was a glitch, so if our cars touched you would not have known if there was contact. This was kind of like the Cape Ring race when that Corvette was all over the place. I quit the Rome race and left the track right at turn 1. There were some other red EVO's out there I think.

Yes. Just like SuperV8 races or F1. There is not really a "be nice" rule. The rolling start might be kind of good to use if we ever have a really high HP race Le Mans style. I'm talking 800hp plus.

Oh, thanks to DJ and snoopy for all your efforts with the series. Snoopy how come you weren't in the race? I kept seeing you at different spots around the track, I would have have waved but I keep both hands on the wheel!

Hey guys, first of all I want to thank you for your participation. You guys are what makes this fun for me. Second, I want everybody here to know I work very hard to make this a fun league. My goal is to make this a fun and involving league and I'm willing to try things to make the experience smoother with an eye for keeping things fun.

Suffice to say, I was pissed at how this race played out. I was frustrated that my new mic was not working. That led to a lot of guessing and wondering and put a lot of unfair pressure on Snoopy. Thanks, by the way. I don't know what I would have done without your help Snoops.

I understand you guys are upset and dissapointed as well. I dropped plenty of F bombs around my kids and threw my mic against the wall. Twice. I will not resort to that behavior online though, either in this thread or on our league website. I want to remind everyone to respect each other and more importantly respect the group. We don't want to ruin it for the league by bickering and insulting each other. Like I said before, if you have an issue send me a PM here or on our league website.

As far as trying new starting procedures I think we should just go back to how we did it before. Unfortunately for CoolRacer, Xavier, & D_Professional, it seems like you guys are just not going to work out for us. Lag issues, race etiquette, lobby response, and general thread behavior are all reasons that I have determined to let you guys go elsewhere. I'm sorry it didn't work out and I hope you find a racing league that suits you.

I've just ran an internet test on my PS3 and the results at my new apartment are as follows:

NAT Type: Type 2
Connection Speed (Download): 6.0Mbps
Connection Speed (Upload): 481.2 kbps

If anyone has a superior connection and would like to host the private/public lounge for the race please let me know.

As for my mic issues, I will try to find my old mic and use that. It wasn't great but seems like it'll work better than my new mic.

Again, I hope you guys know all the work and time I put into this league and have some patience as we experience some growing pains.
