Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

The biggest downside to this game seems the stages more than anything else! Easy and boring and repetitive a bit!
You need to get past the introductory stuff, especially in rally - once you unlock Sweden, the stages start to get longer and more complex. Historic rally offers more variety early on.

Prepare yourself for a lot of repetition! There are some generated tracks that stand out but overall it becomes the same stuff over and over again and the longer stages repeat the same set of corners between 2 to 4 times per stages. You will also see the same junctions, forest entry/exit every single time and YourStage at this stage is very very average to say at least.

Already saw a lot of it during my first 4 hrs yesterday!

I know it's an issue of the game and a feature at the same time! No more memorizing the whole track again and blasting through times in online leagues, but also some kind of repetition! I think it's a fair tradeoff; roads in real life may be repetitive sometimes, especially mountain roads!
So yeah I think we will survive!

What are your take on physics and handling guys, I wonder?

Gamer Handling really lets you push hard on some stages, anything above a "2" at Michigan is pretty much flat out in the R5s.

Does it differentiate between Gamer and Simulation modes?!
Coz in your picture, I can see nowhere saying "Gamer mode" or anything like that!

I play both gamer and sim and it works very well on gravel and snow but tarmac still feels a bit floaty. Found it much more noticable in Sim handling than in Gamer handling. The overal feel is great though 👍

As I just found out, you win the Subbie when you get the R1 license, so go with the Evo.

Upon further review this is wrong, I must not have been paying very close attention as it was just a livery.

Is it just me or are the cars set up like crap in the dailys. I like the challenges a lot, but if this keeps going i will stop doing the dailylive or whatever it is that doesn't let you tune the car. I couldn't even finish today's...

I won't touch most of the dailies because most of the cars feel terrible.

Has anyone tried playing in Simulation with traction control ON? Maybe they got it backwards like they did with the descriptions of the diff settings...

I understand why they do it, and i like that everyone gets the same car. It just seems like the default setup is really bad most of the time in D4 . In DR i didn't have nearly as much trouble with the cars in the challenges. Just part of getting used to the difference in the handeling i guess. Still trying to figure out how to drive a few of the cars that were my favs in DR.

Right. DR had better default setups it seems like the setups now are locked to training wheels for stability
Itd be nice if they allowed maybe some camber/toe and diff alteration at the very least

The default on F/M Rwd cars are not pleasant, I skipped Tuesdays daily for that very reason

I'm a little ashamed to admit I switched from "simulation" handling to "gamer". I was getting to the point where I dreaded doing races in career mode. I'm here to have fun, so once I complete career I will turn it back to simulation and try to master the game on my own without worrying about winning or losing events.

Tbh i haven't even tried gamer handling. Went straight to simulation with all assist off, as i do in any racing game. Steep learning curve but i find it better than changing things later and having to relearn certain bahaviors of the cars.

^THIS. I did exactly the same!

I honestly didn't try any event yet, but I've driven nearly 4hrs till now in the career without changing a single thing in the setup of any car! It could be since I'm a bit slow or inexperienced!

There's no reason to force yourself to use Simulation other than personal pride; I don't believe it gives you any extra rewards as all of the bonuses are tied to Assists.

I tried Simulation but it felt "off" compared to DiRT Rally; cars that I had complete faith in in that game were quite inconsistent here. So in the end I switch to Gamer and am having fun going "maximum attack" on Stages. I'm still running Tough AI + all Assists disabled, and the only cars that feel "on rails" are the R5s.

It seems to me that the "untrustworthiness" of Simulation is only in Rally events; Rallycross felt the exact same as DiRT Rally (ie: great).

I switched to gamerhandling as well because it brings for me personally a lot more fun. Due to issues with certain cars the simhandling can feel awkward. For the rest it is pretty easy to switch between the 2 modes on the fly. There isn't a whole lot to learn because the differences aren't that huge.

That little Fiat 131 in Spain with gamerhandling is huge fun 👍

True, true. Even though I'm using a controller rather than a wheel, I found the realism and weight to the cars to be extremely satisfying in Dirt Rally, something the Sim mode in Dirt 4 lacks. Just a shame that I feel I have use Gamer mode. But don't get me wrong, Gamer mode is still very fun even though at times it seems too easy.

Not sure if it's pride or what, but i do enjoy a challenge. Not sure how to put it, but i always try go set the difficulty in games so tbat it is hard for me to win. I enjoy the playing not the winning. Does that make sense? Not knocking anyones choices, just my precerance of gameplay

Same here; no pride, just more rewarding and satisfying!
I was winning on "demanding AI" pretty easily, so I upped it to "Tough" yesterday and now I'm struggling to remain 1st due to the many mistakes I make! So now I'm required to be more precise, aware, concentrated and smooth! I like the challenge (until it's not funny anymore; then I reduce the difficulty).

Rallycross on Dirt Rally was one of the worst experience you can have with a wheel, thanks to the poor tyre model and ffb (and with the colaboration of a very light weight physics).

In Dirt 4 should be much better, as the noticeable improvement on tarmac is reconized all along the internet.

I'm sort of stuck in the middle. Gamer handling is boring, but I reached my limit with the cars swapping ends unprovoked in Simulation mode.
This used to happen in early Codemasters games like TOCA 2--normal difficulty was way too easy, but the next step up was impossible.

I'm a pad player, and DiRT Rally's RX felt good on there, although DiRT 4's improved on that (in both Gamer and Simulation handling modes).
