Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

That's my experience in a nutshell on any surface with any car, but it's what I expected from a Codemasters title, because their games have always been that way. I was puzzled that Dirt Rally is considered a simulator, but I skipped it for a lack of unique stages.

You never played Dirt Rally? It is very good.. more toward sim than arcade, but I do get your comment about codemasters having that floaty physics.

Did you try SLRE? They got a bit more of the physics better.. but man that sound just makes me sad.

I've found a game-breaking bug on Xbox.

  • Career
  • Historic Rally
  • Historic Intercontinental Series
  • Sweden
  • Egenas Sji - Backlopp (Ner)
  • MG Metro
  • Gamer Handling

Every time I complete this stage and drive up to the marshal post, the screen fades to black after showing my time.
The screen stays black and never goes to the post-stage screen.

The only way to get around this is to Retire from the event or Abandon the Championship.

@PJTierney I've had the same issue after a race on a Swedish track, but this was from using the Hyundai i20 R5 in the Winter Rally series (3rd event). After realising I could not complete the championship as the same bug would occur every time, I did the championship again with the Evo X and completed the championship without a hitch.

Seems like all the Subies are a bit off imo
All of them are super slidey like driving on ice or have too much weight, can't quite figure it out

Tuning camber, toe, lsd torque bias - nothin doin

Should have been fun..... the bmw is one of my favorite cars in DR but i can't get a handel on it in D4. Bothers me some as i drive a e91 in real life and always try to go with manufacturers of my real life cars in game if i can (wife's car is a dodge) also i f'ing hate the spain stages..... mostly because i suck at them. Perfect storm for a bad time, managed to get near top of tier 3 at least, even with a few spins and a roll

Today's daily was fun. BMW on long tarmac stage.

Don't you need one for online participation for multiplayer and community events? I had one from dirt rally, not sure how/when I created it. Could have been from even older games on ps3 like Dirt 2/3 and Grid.

Not played Multiplayer yet, Community Events work fine.

Right , especially when you can't tune the daily .

I on the other hand like Spain, since codies fixed the tarmac feel - the grp A/B and kit cars are fun to toss around those curvy mountainsides

Anybody interested in a slightly used Escort?

Is it worth creating a Racenet account? Is it actually useful?
It's not essential but if you play a number of Codemasters games it's handy as each one lest you do different things, like accessing leaderboards online.
In DiRT Rally you could use Racenet to view telemetry of your stages online and compare it to other players.

Also, thanks to Racenet, leaderboards are cross-platform in this game.

I'm late to the party on the discussion about the daily involving the E30 at Spain but after a collision with a guardrail which caused me to loose virtually all of my front body panels (yep, my mad skills coming into play right there), the induction note was even louder and it sounded awesome!

I think after living with this game I'm going to have to rank it under DiRT3, with DiRT2 in first, DiRT3, and tied with showdown. I would also like to know why the ai are so bad at spain and are so great everywhere else

Noticed something in DiRT 4 the day before yesterday, which I think is pretty odd: in the NR4/R4 category, the Mitsubishi Lancer costs less than the Subaru WRX in the dealerships, despite having a higher power rating and being lighter. So that begs the question: is the Mitsubishi's handling significantly worse than that of the Subaru, or is it cheaper simply because it is an older car? I'm planning to buy either a Group A car or a NR4/R4 car, so having this question answered might help me in making the right choice.

Going with age, I liked the Mitsu's handling better.

If you're getting a group A then I think the Lancia is best, but the hood crumples straight up, so you can't see if you hit anything.

As I just found out, you win the Subbie when you get the R1 license, so go with the Evo.

I bought the game last Saturday and I have some questions:
  1. Should I bother buying cars when there are team offers that I can borrow one? Or should I keep my focus on upgrading my facilities?
  2. My garage is full (4 cars, haven't upgraded yet). If I win another car, what will happen?

It's all down to preference, I like using my own cars for career mode.
My garage is full (4 cars, haven't upgraded yet). If I win another car, what will happen?

Prize cars still get added to your garage even if it is already full.

I did a weekly last night just before they expired and I got a tier 1 finish. O was a bit surprised since I got a 4 second penalty, did half a stage on 3 wheels and rim, got a puncture in the next stage and so much damage bodywork didn't get repaired lol:lol:

I managed to be on the top 200 using the Lancia Stratos on the weekly lmao

I absolutely hated this car on Rally and somehow even with the rwd cars being harder to drive on Dirt 4, the Stratos is easier to drive here.

I wonder how hard it is to drive the Lancia 037, that car was my nightmare in DiRT Rally. Which is a shame, because it is my favorite Lancia.

Gamer Handling really lets you push hard on some stages, anything above a "2" at Michigan is pretty much flat out in the R5s.

For those who played DiRT Rally before DiRT 4, have you gone back to DR? Meaning, does DR seem any less of a game after playing D4? I'm waiting to start D4 until I've had enough of DR, but if playing D4 doesn't diminish DR then I'll give D4 a go. I think that sentence made sense. :)

Physics-wise I am a Loeb Rally EVO fan which I find to be the most realistic, intuitive and satisfying. While I have issues with both D4 and DR physics, I am finding no problem going back to DR. In spite of the floaty feeling in DR and being too easy to powerslide I find it much more satisfying than the understeering hand of god in D4.

After eight seasons of my Argentine DiRT Rally league I put together a final 11-event season: 1 Pikes Peak and then ten rallies with one car from each car class. Rallies with one stage from each country, kind of as a final challenge for everyone. To be honest, it's actually very pleasing for me to go back to DiRT Rally where I believe cars behave more intuitively than in D4. In fact, I am finding it hard to play D4 for more than an hour without getting frustrated with the excessive grip/friction/aero or whatever the problem is. It's not that D4 takes getting used to... for me D4 is like playing a totally different style of game. It just doesn't feel right, so going back to DR every week to compete in my league is extremely enjoyable.

While I am waiting for a good sale on SLRE, I found a good deal yesterday on D4 so I ended up buying it.

To be honest, I ended up liking it after like 4 hours of straight gameplay!

Below you can find my INITIAL findings and impressions:

-Handling seems easier than Dirt Rally, but also more realistic:
Cars feel heavy, they have more weight, no longer a small crest hit would turn your car around easily like in DR.
Braking is very improved and will kill you if you do it wrong, weight shift is real.
Cars no longer feel they are driven on ice, especially on dirt/gravel; I remember how the cars slid all over the place in DR in Greece!
-It seems handling and FFB have some Assetto corsa feeling to it, and I like that.
-I thank God that they got rid of the old DR FFB because that one broke my wheel! It used to rumble and shake and kick in heavily!
In fact, I couldn't drive more than 15min straight on DR without my wheel pressing some buttons by itself! (it happens on heavy FFB kick-ins). Yesterday I drove 4hrs straight and the issue didn't happen, not even once! I'm happy!
-I drove in USA, Australia and Spain. I enjoyed Australia the most out of these.
-I drove on Simulation handling, Demanding AI and all assists OFF, as well as whole HUD OFF. Also manual sequential and headcam view (with steering wheel view). All wheel settings were left to default (saturation, linearity etc...). FFB was just reduced to 75% to preserve my wheel's life.
That's really immersive and realistic! To wait for the stage to end just to see in which position you are is a good feeling!
-I completed the DirtFish school lessons and it's nice and fun!
-I absolutely suck at Rally Cross! Dunno why! I just can't make that car drive! It feels like driving on ice!
-Driving in fog is really wicked hard!
-The helicopter ****ed up one of my cleanest and fastest stages! I was surprised by it and the dust covered everything so i hit the barrier with nearly full speed and spun!
-I tried 5min of landrush and couldn't complete a single lap! The struggle is real!
-The biggest downside to this game seems the stages more than anything else! Easy and boring and repetitive a bit! Nothing amazing like real life scanned DR stages! Those are legendary!

Overall I'm really loving it and enjoying it and can't wait to play it more and more!

Again I say, it may not be as hard as Dirt Rally, but that doesn't mean it's not more realistic! HARD is not always equal to REALISTIC.
