okay can someone give me pointers on how to capture the backfires? I've tried to do it exactly as the fire comes out ( on a lamborghini ) and when I take the pictures, the backfire flames aren't visible and all I end up with is a shot of the rear with no backfire.

Best tip I have use manual gears go in to 7th or top gear then hit the throttle and change down thorugh every gear as fast as possible, it should backfire on every gear and the car will bearly move so not much blur when you lower the shuttle spead.

my fire appears before the exhaust.

Ugh! I think we need a tutorial on how to do these, it would be handy for those like me who cannot seem to get the shot at the right time.

Anyone know enough about snapping backfire shots who would be willing to write one up to teach us what settings to use and roughly when to pause the replay to catch the magic moment?

I tired doing this from a standstill, is that what you meant? But anyway it didn't seem to work with the cars I tried - GT-R and a bunch of others.

I still can't seem to capture the flames, even with the lowest shutter speed. Maybe it's got something to do with the panning mode? I used panning mode 3.

From what I've noticed with the flames, all the ones with the Enzo at least, was that the flames lag in time. The pictures with the Enzo for example, when I paused the replay the flames were like two feet from the exhaust, but when I took the picture they were set much closer to the tail pipes. And I think that's why many say when they take the pic it doesn't appear. Because if you caught it just when it was exiting the pipes, it will still be inside the pipes when the photo is snapped. Just what I noticed at least. And I did a practice run to get these shots, just cruising down the straightaway switching back and forth from 6 to 5th for the flame.

wow that viper looks great in matte paint, i JUST got matte light red, and thanks to your pic i think i know what car it's going on. I think yours is matte pink but I'm not certain. And that diesel backfire is nice! It's hard for me to get uniform flames out of both exhausts
