Saleen ManI can't understand how everyone here says Owens is not one of the best receivers in the league. Hines Ward? Please. Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and probably Steve Smith - in that order - are the best receivers in the league right now. I don't care how much you hate a guy, you can't just say he sucks as a player when he clearly does not.
Am I the only one who will defend him as an athlete?
Please. Reggie Wayne? Dude. And let's just see how Philadelphia plays down the stretch with their "pretty good receiving core".OmnisNo mention of Joe Horn, Marvin Harrisson, or Reggie Wayne? They're all much more valuable to their teams than TO is. Philly has a pretty good recieving core without TO, anyway.
edit: I love how TO is the most thankful and nicest guy after leaving San Francisco and coming to an NFC championshipship team, but as soon as the littlest thing goes wrong, and their season isn't so hot, he turns into the Forty-Whiner all over again.

Terrell Owens this season:
7 Games - 47 Catches - 763 Yards - 6 TD's
All that tells me is that if Reggie Wayne plays more games than Owens, he will have similar numbers to him. And that's also comparing the best passing season by any team in league history, to Terrell Owens' lowest catch total since '99.CFMReggie Wayne: 8 games - 46 catches - 561 Yards - 3 TD's
2004 Stats:
Owens: 14 Games - 77 catches - 1200 yds - 14 TD's
Wayne: 16 Games - 77 catches - 1210 yds - 12 TD's
That's with splitting passes nearly 50/50 to Harrison (who has more TD's since he's Mannings fave in the end zone), as well as Manning spreading it around to Stokley, James and the two TE's. Not to mention this year opposing teams have been dropping their defences back against the pass nearly every play the first several games forcing the Colts to use Edge more than in past years. If Wayne was the first and preferred option in Indy ala Owens in Philly he could surely have similar TD numbers. Obviously, Owens has a little more natural talent, but I'd take Wayne over Owens any day when you consider all the factors such as attitude and team play. Not to mention actually being able to play every week instead of doing situps in his driveway.
Yes, thank you. Reggie Brown was the guy who replaced him. He did well, but he is no Terrell Owens. Brian Westbrook is much more of a receiving back than a runner, so with no solid running game Philadelphia is in trouble. Especially now in the surprisingly tough NFC East. The Eagles sit last right now at 4-4.Max PowersPhilly is in for a tough season.
There is no argument that Owens was their primary offensive weapon. I forget the exact numbers, but they rely very heavily on the pass and rarely run. I don't know who said that they have a "good receiving core" without Owens, but that's a lie. Although, the rookie who filled in for Owens against Washington (his name escapes me) did have 97 receiving yards and a TD, but we'll see how he does as the season goes on.
The fact is that Philly can not be one-dimensional on offense if they want to continue to win games. Otherwise they'll be in a Green Bay situation (aka. excellent QB with nobody to throw to)
So yes, I still think there are a group of receivers better than Owens, but he was still really important to his team, and they're going to have to change their game plan if they want to win without him.
