It's an old busted plant though. I don't think Elon wants to have to maintain an old hooptie reactor.

I'm not bothered by the lack of grille so much as the sharp edge that makes you think there's a grille, but there isn't.

Just smooth out the edge and it will look a lot more reasonable, a la Saleen's Model S:

(it also reminds me a bit of Iron Man's faceplate )

Made me think of the Honda CR-Z Actually

I'm not a fan for what Saleen did there, they somehow took a good looking front end and made it worse, now it looks like a generic Toyota or something.

I agree, the standard Model S looks better. But the Saleen version looks better than what the Model 3 currently looks like.

IMO, Model S (stock) > Model X > Saleen Model S > Model 3

He might be put in charge of making sure that you have the ability to pay thousands of extra dollars for color matched key fobs and 18 way adjustable seats.

Just got a chance to see one of these in person but only for a brief few seconds as I drove by. Hopefully I'll get a better chance next week.

I know we're still way too early to speculate, but has Tesla expressed interest in making another sports car in the future? Not a sport sedan, a successor to the Roadster.

I figure some portion of these will drop out for having to wait too long or needing the money for other things. I think Tesla should have made the pre-order buy-in more than $1k.

From what I gathered at the Model 3 showing was that this is the last car they plan to make.

I'm sure Musk has previously expressed a desire to make another sports car, but in terms of priority it's way down the line from churning out Model 3s, I suspect.

What? They were so successful with the S; the X is slowly being produced, and the 3 is still being prepped for production. If they're good at making cars, why stop now with the gigafactory coming soon?

This was the last car for their initial plan. I'm sure after this, they'll make a new plan and expand their lineup.
Makes sense.

See above.

I spent a few minutes in GIMP and realised it doesn't even need a grille to look better. Personally, a rounded bumper goes a long way to improve the look of the front end.

With that said, it does look even more like a Porsche Panamera. :P

My guess is the final production model will get a front facia similar to what the X and facelifted S has.

It's mentioned in the article that the one thing they were told explicitly to not film or take photos of was the interior. I think that settles the matter that what we were shown on the reveal was pretty much a dummy interior - which makes me happy. :)

Saw one on the road late yesterday evening while driving home, looking at it makes me think of a squashed Model S with a high roof.

I would agree with FT-1, the front would be more appealing if it was rounded. No doubt going to sell well with it's price point and the success of the Model S.
