TH8 RS Shifter Thread!

Hi everyone,

Been visiting the forum for a while but I just signed up and this is my first post.

Thought I might give some view on my shifter:
-Great build quality (al least for now)
-Not to keen on the idea of a hidden tension screw behind a hole
-Initially I had problems shifting from 3rd to 4th, but after a few laps around the ring it felt very natural
-Disappointed that the sequential doesn't work for gt5, going through the manual and couldn't find anything, searched around on gtplanet and ..... found it's not supported

Overall I'm very happy with it. I have a manual trackday car (S2000) and the shifter gives me the driving style that I'm used to.

For anyone wanting to buy one in Australia, I bought mine at techbuy.com.au it was the cheapest around and I could pick it up straight away (not patient enough to get it delivered).

My setup is pretty much the same as another member here I think.

Amazon finally shipped the shifter in North America 👍👍

Knob feels light at the touch, CSR shifter knob actually have nicer feel to it.

Other than that, THIS GEAR IS SUPERIOR QUALITY

Hello,Question: MB SLS AMG have 7 gears,when shift from 4th to 5th it goes to 7th? Cars whit 5 or 6 gears works fine, straight to 5th? F1 the same prob.Any tip? BTW i have do the calibrate.

From what I've read on the net I thought the TH8RS only worked in GT5 on cars that have manual gearboxes so with the SLS you would need to continue to use the flappy paddles - maybe someone else can confirm. I haven't used mine yet as it is a Christmas present and also I need to finish building a sort of centre console to house it which will fit between the modules of the sofa - no way will this thing mount on a wheelstand pro as it is much too large and lifelike.

Some cars that IRL have no H-shifter option like the AMG SLS the clutch doesn't work but you can select gears using either the shifter or the paddles. There are many modern cars like this in GT5 so it's just a matter of using them and seeing what works and what doesn't

@ VanWeeD: Regardless of the build quality, which of the two (CSR or TH8) you think has a better feeling engaging gears (more realistic)?.

About the knob, your weight comparison is not valid, while the CSR´s knob can´t be removed. But in TH8, with a heavier knob, you get still less resistance.

My recomendation is never to mount a knob so heavy like this:

I've tested the 458 and the sls (Both 7 gears and use paddles in reality) with the th8 rs and it works perfectly fine. If your missing gear changes I'd suggest
making sure that your TH8 is in a good position (in relation to you) and try tightening the tension setting until its best suited to you. Also paying attention to where your putting the gear leaver and your foot work on the clutch and accelerator

Hello. Thanks for all the tip.I have reset the whole shifter,and do all the adjustment.Recalibrate the shifter whith Software v.1.0.7.0,and its just perfect.Everythings work just fine.👍Thanks

Oh btw guys, if you use the original knob... don't tighten it too much. I can't get mine off anymore. Not even with stuff like WD40
I just screw of the knob with a part of the lever (till the black part). Felt like I was holding a door handle and going "WTF... why me again?" with a blank stare.

Guys, can I place the table clamp in the back? In other words I want to connect it so the table clamp faces me instead of forward. If not I can't use it.

Can someone tell me if the TH8RS shifter will mount fine on my Playseat Shifter Mount? I have a feeling that the brace holding the mount plate will get in the way of the clamp. With the G27 Shifter, you have to unscrew the center table clamp in order to hard-mount it because it gets in the way. Please take a look at my pictures and tell me what you think. Also, any opinions on placement of the shifter are welcome. I think since the mount sits quite low, the TH8RS will be at a decent height considering it's a long shifter. What do you think?

You can only hard mount it by drilling new holes most likely, cause using the table mount the tightening knob will be too wide to get in between there since that's about 4.5 inches wide.

@Mayaman: you can rotate the clamp 360 degrees I believe. There was a video about that somewhere in this thread.

you guys in us and uk are so lucky, 153 for the Th8Rs, I have to pay 267AUD/ USD ( but we have stock , practically buy now received next day) now on aud and USD on par- for this. ended up getting the frex shift + and paid 198AUD

damned it , but i can wire the frex with gt3 rs easy not the th8rs , hence leaning frex way

Jabz, Please let me know how you manage to mount the shifter when it comes in. I'm like 2 seconds from buying the T500rs and shifter altogether. Good luck buddy!

I also ordered one from Amazon today to replace my CSR Shifter Set which is going back where it belongs -- at the store. Hopefully get this nice looking replacement by 2012. Looks like a great addition to my setup and should mount just dandy on a Bob Earl.
