sorry just got to do it. been having much fun with DiRT2 and 3 with this thought I share

Hah, yeah baby *Austin Powers voice*

Using this homebrew short shift kit now and loving it. Effectively shortened fore aft movement by 10mm and didn't have to use calibration software to change shift trigger points either. I think it would be great if DSD offered a short throw version like this.

.
OK, the CD started to crack for 6th gear, so either I cut another CD or try something else. So, I bought more rubber that I used for the reverse gear restrictor and used them to shorten the throw. Works well but not 100% contented as the lateral movement is still huge.

This shifter is getting really loose now. I'd tightened the tension screw to what feels like the max, and it's still so loose. Carson or BNG are you getting the same issue? What are your suggestions to help give the shaft more friction/tension/resistance? Would opening up the case and putting something in front of the screw work? I wonder if they sell a longer screw somewhere.

You should be able to buy the screws quite easily. Just google "ball plunger".
No idea re preventing it getting loose. If anyone know what the foam stuff is or if someone tries Loctite on it, please share your experience.

TM are currently dispatching a knew tension screw to me. I tried loctite ......didn't work And evo-stick liquid metal.....This is serious stuff.....Used it in the past and it was unbreakable......But it can take 24 hours to fully cure ......I'd try something like this. But give it 24 hours ...not 3 like me lol. If you read back in my last update it came apparent that TM do not expect this to need adjusting as often.......Contact them for a new tension screw

Should the paddle shifters on my T500RS still work when my TH8RS is pluged into my PS3? I hit the paddle by mistake while driving with TH8RS and it downshifted. I have since noticed the paddles still work with the TH8RS pluged in. Is this normal?

Yes, normal on GT5.

Is there a new revision coming out or? I preordered this some weeks ago. Then thrustmaster said within a week to the distributor. Which they did for at least 3 weeks. Now it´s 27th of March???

This is normal. This way you can quickly switch between shifting type when changing cars in-game. You can always remove the function from them in the games options of course if you so prefer.

Hey guys I'm having a slight annoyance, not really a problem with my TH8RS shifter that I'm sure someone in here has a solution to.

When I'm bringing it out of the bottom gears there is a slight clicking, and when I bring it into the top gears there is the same clicking. I've taken it apart and adjusted the tension several times but it does not seem to be related to that.

Now I took it apart just now, and tried to retighten it and see if I could find the culprit, after taking the two top plates off I could not hear the noise at all when putting it into gear, so I put it back together. Now the clicking is only heard when coming out of the bottom gears, not while going into the top ones.

Anyone have a clue how to fix this minor annoyance.

Its not the tension. What happened is there is a little piece of metal that has been shaved off and is now caught on the magnet of the HEART sensor. As you come out of shift the little piece of metal will "click" as it rubs on the other metal parts. I took mine apart and threw out the shaving, its a manufacturing defect. Didn't affect performance but annoying.

You can take it apart but I don't recommend it, just send it back for another.

Dang I was hoping it was an easy fix mayaman, but I did just order it off amazon feb 21st, I also registered it so I think its best I just send it back, the only thing is I think I clamped it a bit hard and a piece of rubber underneath the clamp came off, will I have a problem with that in return, also should I Just return to amazon or go through thrustmaster?

Use Amazon, they've always done right by me. Call and be nice and explain it clearly that you just want a replacement. You shouldn't have a problem. I couldn't believe how such a small metal shaving could make such a loud click. LOL

Well I emailed thrustmaster customer support, who told me to take the entire thing apart and put grease on it, which I did. Well, this didn't help whatsoever I'm still getting the sound anytime I'm coming out of a bottom gear 2,4,6,R.

I guess I'm going to have to send it in for a new one a bit disappointing was hoping that the grease would help.

Anyone interested in short throw replacement plate for the TH8 RS? It's aluminium, 6 gears and reverse. Both fore-aft and lateral movements reduced by about 20%.

If you have seen my previous threads, you'd know I'm pretty fussy about the TH8 RS' throw. I've used CD cutouts and rubber stoppers which both work well for reducing fore-aft movement but not lateral movement. Not satisfied, I drew up my own plate and got it cut. I have to pay a minimum amount to get them cut which means I get some extra plates included in that batch. I have a prototype which you can see in this video which I just uploaded. It's not actually a prototype but they stuffed it up because they misplaced the mounting holes so they need to re-cut them. I should have the real plates in a day or two. Anyway, I can sell them for $25 each plus shipping which helps offset my outlay.

PM me if you are interested.

You should probably show comparison picture's of the original and the custom one. Be easier to see the difference....But well done 👍

Here it is, comparing with the DSD one which is same dimensions as the original.

I'll post proper photos when I get the final plate.

OK...I have the final plates. Looks great. Comes with a plastic sheet on the top side. I'll keep 2 for myself and there are some extras.

Cost:
AUD $30 including shipping outside Australia
AUD $27 including shipping within Australia

Note: If you buy it, I suggest you sand down the edges so it doesn't cut into the shifter's plastic sleeve. They couldn't chamfer it. Alternatively, I'm currently using heatshrink tubing (just use a hair dryer to heat and shrink) instead of the plastic sleeve. At least test with these first. I'll add some in the package.

PM me if you want one and you can pay me via Paypal.

mate , so tempted, if you have one for handbrake.( like the sequential but longer to the bottom) . looks very good though.

Did Mr Speares say he was going to make those? If not, your turn to visit the CNC shop ;-)

Well I just recieved my new TH8RS, it doesn't make any clicking noise like the other one so I'm pretty sure it was a defective unit.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to grease the new unit? Seems a bit stiffer than the messed up one that I greased.

:scared:

lol, i think it's cheaper for me to get this and put on some switch.
dunno. maybe but not going to get DSD stuff anymore, he' s pedal pad is good but SLI-BOX is a disappointment, ,I'm not going to hold my breath for it. if someone do make one, I hope there is a tension spring as well, to make the pull harder.
