So the best Tilkedrome is being axed?
It was axed back in 2011.

Malaysia is going because the organisers have noticed that not many fans are coming to the race anymore, so have made the decision to stop hosting F1. They get many more people for the MotoGP, which is going strong there, so they're just cutting their losses.

True.

So the best currently on the calendar. Man, that's a shame. I love the Malaysian Grand Prix, I wonder why exactly the fans aren't interested in turning up? One can only hope it's not ticket prices.

Ticket Prices are great there, the appetite for F1 has just dropped for some reason, even though the Petronas sponsored cars are winning.

Moving it to the end of the year because God forbid there ever be rain in a race was the beginning of the end.

They were already planning in axing the GP when the decision to move it was made.

Sepang was my favorite Tilkedrome and produced some excellent races in recent years, it's a shame to see it go.

I struggle to believe this story. Apparently Chase Carey met with Erdogăn where they came to an agreement. But there's no way Erdogăn would agree to meet with someone who has a more awesome mustache tham him.

I wouldn't mind Istanbul coming back, however I'm surprised considering the unrest in the country at the moment.

I'm surprised that the Russian GP hasn't been canceled yet due to political unrest either, but I'll save that discussion for another board, topic, time & place.

I'm surprised someone from CNN hasn't blamed McLaren Honda's problems on "Russian Hacking"

But when has terrible politics ever stopped F1 before? F1 was in South Africa in the 80s (and was refered to as "the most colourful GP on the calander..."). Correct me if I'm wrong, but they were in Argentina in the 70s. They went to Bahrain when the majority the Sunni population was protesting the oppressive Shia (spelling?) government - F1 personal needed police escorts to and from the track, and they raced in front of empty grand stands because no one was allowed in. They have a GP in Mexico right now, and that government hasn't finished washing it's hands of the blood of bus fulls worth of college kids being slaughtered by cartels, with the help of local police.

It sucks, but if you drag politics into things, there isn't a single country on earth that could host an international sporting event with "completely clean hands". Best case scenario is you can use an event like F1 or FIFA to bridge gaps and find common ground with people you might otherwise oppose.

This is what I hope sport can bring, you see bad things happen like with the Dortmund bus tonight and the Dortmund fans were letting Monaco fans stay in their houses. That's what sport is all about right?

That's precisely why I ended my post with "Another time & place." Also, don't forget in the 1970's F1 raced in Spain under the rule of Generalissimo Franco and in Brazil under Ernesto Geisel... That's why I usually keep "Outside" politics and racing separate until they genuinely cross paths.

Excited to see that Turkey may be coming back as a racing venue, I always enjoyed the racing on that circuit.

Agree that it's one of the very best of the Tilke tracks. I said it elsewhere, but I would say that track and COTA are the best of the purpose built Tilkes.

Turn 8 will be amazing with these cars, the G-Forces might be concerning though.

I disagree. Austin just doesn't excite me at all.
I've attended a couple races there, so I am admittedly biased. TV does it little justice, but I am sure that can be said of many of the circuits.

Best Tilkedrome is one that has been bulldozed.

Cota wasn't designed by Tilke by the way.
Well, the concept of the layout was formed by the promoter, and it's generally a mishmash of corners from a lot of other circuits, or inspired by them.

But everything I can find says Tilke was involved in the final design. I think it's a point of pedantry.

Jesus ******* Christ. What a miserable piece of excretion that man is. Can he just not wake up anymore.

I'm genuinely curious, why does anyone even interview him? Can we just move on and ignore his silliness? Stop letting him try to force himself into the news with pointless nonsense.

There's a message in there though, as ever with Bernie.... if you want to make money then charge a lot of money. He's saying that his way was the right way as a business man, that's couched in "Liberty don't seem to want to make money". Taking British English at face value doesn't always work.
