What's so special about the wheel/tire? That it's shoehorned in there? And why was a nice shot ruined with a lame rhyme on the Porsche one...baffling. The sub off the beach though, pretty sweet.

Hey Wiegert...do you know what those climbers are hanging off of in the photo you posted a bit back? Looks like it could be Half Dome or El Cap.

^^ That rhyme is from Wu-Tang Clan... Da Mystery of Chessboxin'... havent heard that song in ages... :P Sounds better in the song 👍

Rap song fine, I have no problem with. But why would it have any place sitting on a shot of what looks like a Porsche racing in the 24hr Nurburgring event?

Becuase racing is raw, like cocaine straight from bolivia? I dont know but I think its what came to the photographers/editer mind when they looked at the picture and chose that for the caption and decieded to put it in there. I think it quite fitting to be honest.

^^^ Type S Tony, great pics.

We should call this the awesome photo thread!!!

Interesting fact about the space shuttle launch. The big plumes of smoke, most of it is actually steam. There's a series of high pressure water nozzles set up on the launch pad. They spray water into the rocket exhaust gases which turns it all into steam.

This is done as the steam creates a form of pressure barrier to protect the shuttle from damage. You see the booster rockets, the exhaust gases are coming out of them at a super-sonic speed!! If there was no pressure barrier the sonic boom / shock waves would rebound off the launch pad & ground and cause physical damage to the shuttle. That's how 'off the chart' the physics are in a shuttle launch.

The super-sonic rocket thrust is what gives big rocket launches that sound - crackling and popping. What you're hearing is a whole series of very closely packed sonic booms.

I posted this in the Import thread, but I think it's fitting for here too.

Why ruin a picture with text. Captions are one thing, huge blocks of annoying text fighting for visual attention are just annoying. They're photos, not meme images.

Indeed...

Let's keep this thread for non-automotive pictures, and let's have no more of these captioned pics please... the picture should speak for itself, that is kind of the point of the thread 💡

I'm not sure where that image was taken myself. It could be El Cap, but I get the feeling it could be somewhere like Baffin Island, possibly Mount Asgard or Mount Thor. I can't find any info on that picture, so I can't verify where it was taken.

That's fantastic use of shutter speed there. And on topic of night sky images, have you guys heard about the guy who stitched over 37,000 images together for a 5,000 megapixel image of the entire night sky? It's absolutely insane. There's a normal version you can scroll around and a version with constellations and important stars labeled. You can see it all HERE.

Okay, this is cool and amazing to me.

How slick Grace Jones' album cover for 'Island Life' was done in the years before photoshop.
