+1. Really shows off the age of the shuttle, unless its always looked that weathered before and after launch.

Another pair of photos that show off the age of the shuttles, these are of the same father and son taken at the same spot 30 years apart at the first and last shuttle launches.

The StratoShuttle-1, a helium-filled weather balloon launched by a group of students with help from the California-based nonprofit Quest for Stars, captured this breathtaking shot of the Space Shuttle Atlantis from 89,000 feet above ground

Tiiiiiiiiiin rooooooooooooof rusty!

Nice shot, any idea where it was taken? It looks like the prairies, but how far north do you have to go to be able to see the northern lights?

According to the source it was taken in Hafnarfjordur, Iceland by Örvar Atli Þorgeirsson, quite a good photographer!

Judging by the landscape I would have guessed northern Sask, Canada area. I had no idea Iceland had such open flat land like that. Great pic. 👍

And I would say thats white sand close up...the brown sandy beaches we have here would look nothing like that close up, unfortuantly.

It's in Prypiat, according to comments on reddit - Prypiat is located near Chernobyl and it's almost abandoned nowadays.

Bonus points for everyone who walked through the city in Modern Warfare! ;)

There was a whole level that took place in Prypiat, so that one's easy. :)

And it's not "almost" abandoned.. it's completely abandoned. People can visit, but the radiation levels are still too high to live there long-term.

I beg to differ - Prypiat is not completely abandoned. Some people are still there, especially the engineers who are still taking care of the power plant. I've read an interesting article about it some months ago but it was on Spiegel.de, so German. :)

Additionaly: walking around in the level was great, just following the path wasn't. :D

As well as scientists, there are civillians still living in Prypiat! Some even eating vegetables they grow in the heavily contaminated soil.
