Artist Randall Rosenthal turns a block of wood into a box full of cash.

The pictures on the left do not make any sense, the amount of roll the left wing would produce would send the aircraft in a very fast spin, no way in hell could you hold it level (and the elevator doesn't even seem to attempt to be countering). What even makes it worse is it's left wing flap is down..... fake fake fake

Not fake.

The pilot pulled out of the spin, and he used airspeed to get lift from the body.

A-10s have come back with parts of their wing missing, something like an F-15 could have more of it taken off because of the body shape.

Only thing wrong in the picture is of the second aircraft being an F-15 rather than the A-4.

Dramatic re-enactments don't really count. The photos are fake, they were made for the show. That's why the flap is down in the one picture, because that's a normal F15 doing a normal landing, and the right wing was 'shopped out. Visual Effects 101. No actual photos of the plane in flight, only after it landed.

Don't want to burst your bubble but how is this picture diagram "amazing". It doesn't seem to prove anything. Just population densities of popular places - meh.
1) Rest assured my bubble is perfectly intact.
2) Read the thread title again. Amazing isn't the only factor.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the ailerons aren't the only thing providing roll control. On supersonic planes the elevators compliment the ailerons. He probably would have had enough control over roll and might have been able to fly at a high AOA or on thrust alone.

It is pretty cool. It shows that, unlike many people who think the world is overcrowded, the entire population of Earth could live in just a few states.

But being a photo is one and I've seen complaints made on a number of occasions about those that aren't.

I do however find it interesting, having lived in Houston and things being so spread out being one of the biggest things I disliked about it. I've always enjoyed cities with a higher population density.

On page 185 or 186, there is a picture of a pilot training to fire his own gun in a WW1 plane. I am TOTALLY confident it is a real pic, even though the OP doesn't think so:

I was thinking the same. The source said otherwise but I'll assume they were wrong.

You have to remember, they didn't have the stuff that came out in even WW2, which allowed a thumb switch on the stick, and remotely placed/operated guns. Those pilots had to multi-task like NOTHING else!!!!

Sorry if this has been replied to, I'm working my way through this thread. LOTS of truly AWESOME pics! (Funny note-many (15-25%) of the pics of buildings are from either Hong Kong or Dubai... ;) )
