Here's a fresh-drained hydroelectric powerplant. Coupla local cyclists decided to drop in on it while it was still dry. Pretty impressive to be able to play in something of that size.

Things like that terrify me. I don't know why but I have a terrible fear of big things that normally contain water that have been drained. I visited a docks once and they had an area drained with people working in it on some foundations or something. Scared the hell out of me looking into it. :scared:

i know what ya mean moglet, i think theres a fear of scale too. its like standing at the end of a huge jet engine, i just think, what if this were to turn on right now

though i would love to ride in that :D howd they get out? :scared:

In Kansas and Nebraska it's towns all in little rows. It's as if people moved west, they said "Lets put a town here, and here...and oh wait....here!

Well, they did do that to some extent. Because the landscape out there is so vast, flat, and featureless, they effectively just gridded it with counties and roads. So each of those dots marks a county seat that was founded when the land was subdivided. Look for a US map that includes counties and you will see what I mean.

I remember when I first heard about him I was in uni at Taunton, quite a few people thought he was a guy at my uni called Chris Banks who was obsessed with graffiti and street art. It would have been a bit too obvious IMO.

I love how most councils now go out of their way to preserve his work!

Yup, a piece of his work was 'vandalised' last night/today. How can you vandalise vadalism?!

Friends of mine have possibly seen him working in the early hours around Bristol, fully hoodied up. I don't think i'd approach him even if I did see him, it would ruin the mystique.

That one doesn't look so bad to me but I would hate the idea of standing in the middle of a Dry Dock with the entire ocean pressing against the locks.

Funchal Airport's runway, in the Island of Madeira

This is Funchal Airport's runway, in the Island of Madeira. It was one of the most dangerous in the world because its runway was just too short for large airplanes. It had to be extended and engineers had two options: Extend the ground base with extra soil and concrete, or build a platform on top of 180 230-foot pillars. The answer just looks spectacular.

Captain's log, supplemental - If we ever land at Funchal Airport, remember to pack an extra pair of undies. :scared:

It's almost as amazing as the runway itself that it's never been posted in here before, I've never even heard of this!

Neither had I until it popped up in my news reader today. This should have made a fun human interest story on all local news stations.

Funchal's airport looks absolutely spectacular in person, and even from the POV of a passenger it's not scary at all (at least I didn't think so).

It's a very busy airport, since Madeira has highly turistic islands, some of the landscapes are just breathtaking.

Here's a bigger pic of a plane landing:

Pah! I laugh at Funchal
Well you shouldn't. I don't laugh at Aberdeen.

Well I do, but that's not the point.

:sly:

Apparently it was fans of Bristol Rovers reacting to something Banksy said somewhere.

Actually, Banksy did mention (covertly) in one of the Sunday Times magazines (I believe the "Culture" from two weekends ago) that he basically hated the Bristol Rovers and preferred the other Bristol team...being Bristol United if my memory serves. Which I don't think is correct.

So you may actually be right.

But yeah, reacting to an artist who defaces public property by defacing his art? Its kinda ironic in a way.

I do actually like the way that Banksy operates. He gives much needed secretiveness and also mystique of the artists. I mean, you only ever know them by their nicknames and tags, never their real names.

Anyhow, Funchal's AMAZING from those pictures! I do have a cousin who flies Boeing's....gotta ask him if he flies there.

City, not United.

...not United.
That's their problem right there. :)
