Not just warmer weather for humans, but think about how radically different the ecology would be. You could travel a few hours and the entire natural world would be completely different.
I don't think the ecology would be that vastly different as the shadows would move north and south throughout the year. So, everyone would have the same summers we do now, as far as direct solar contact is concerned, but the winters would have moving shadows. So, the primary growth period for the local ecology wouldn't be affected nearly as much as the cold seasons would.

I think.

We're lucky we don't have rings. As beautiful as they are, it makes everything to do with space considerably more difficult. Consider the unobstructed view that our geostationary satellites have now. Satellite television, phones, internet, GPS - all of these things would have to work around the rings causing the systems to be significantly more expensive.

They would also screw with tides in a fun way.

I have to admit though, it would be quite awesome to see an astronaut floating with a huge lump of rock along a ring system.

Would they? They are stationary over the equator, so it seems any major effects would have been regulated and stabilized already. Or is this based on the fact that not all of the parts that make up the rings would be of equal mass, thus the tides would fluctuate much more frequently than they do now?

Yea you're right. I keep thinking of these rings as not being exactly equatorial - so they rise and fall throughout the day. That would cause tidal fluctuations. But if they're equatorial and uniform I suppose it doesn't matter much. For that matter, the only people who would be obscured from geosynchronous satellites would be those exactly on the equator. Everyone else would have a full view. Once again, I was thinking of the rings as inclined. GPS would still get screwed up though.

I love the Bathtub video, wonderful use of a tilt-shift lens. I presume it was filmed on a 5D or other HD capable DSLR.

YEs, 5Dii, but as far as I remember reading when those were released, they weren't shot with a TS lens, but rather done in post.

I'm just imagining a slight change in the percent of direct sunlight could alter a beings growth and behavior rather dramatically, even if it's a few percent change.

If we had rings, that would be another Google "something" to annoy us. Did the guy who made that video randomly put rings in the world pics, or did he actually calculate exactly where they would be.

Moving on, this is by far the most amazing thing i've seen all day.

Yep. Pseudo-tilt-shift.

Real tilt-shift isn't nearly as spectacular, rather it's used to eliminate distortion — typically over long distances or to eliminate distortion in geometric shapes.

You didn't watch the end credits did you? They were calculated.

This video is a tool-assisted speedrun of a Super Mario World romhack. He has to use glitches to beat this level.

Wow... I've almost completed Kaizo Mario world and thought that was intense. I guess if I become unemployed or win the lottery, I've got a new project to tackle!!!

Mini racing in the St Mary's Trophy at Goodwood this year. The first 3 are onboard on the Sunday's owner's race, the last one highlights of Saturday's pro race. The first video has all the incidents, in the second nothing happens but I posted it for the sake of completeness, the third has a cracking battle with a pair of other Minis.

Not a long video (under 3 minutes) about Tom Harrell, a jazz trumpeteer who suffers from schizophrenia. Odd thing is, his condition would have most people in a sanitarium, yet whenever he's playing the trumpet, he's completely in line with the music and everything. His condition 'engages' whenever he stops playing. Highly amazing stuff!

Seems like it was built for a mathematical or scientific study, prolly involving the drop-off rate of kinetic/potential energy or something of the like.

Thomsonfly 757-200 getting a birkstrike and engine failure on takeoff, you see the failure and hear how the pilot calls mayday and then communicates with traffic control to return for landing. Very interesting

Constructing and calculating the flight procedures used in these situations is what I do for a living.
