Honestly I think the biggest problem for me is that it feels like nearly every single word they say is from a script, whereas before it always felt like there was a rough script but they could still be themselves and be spontaneous during the scripted events. Now it honestly feels like next to nothing they say is genuine, and it's lost some of the magic and chemistry between them.

I watched both episodes back to back just now and enjoyed the show. And given that they have signed for three years surely it will get bigger and better as time goes by.
I do miss the "buy something cheap" challenges as that's where the proper entertainment was for me. But I like this, so more please.

Overall, it was enjoyable, all the way up to the ending which I really did not like. I don't mind the obvious scripted stuff for the most part, but I do mind it when it is extremely predictible.

The Finland ice cream joke has been 'explained', apparently it was a local joke for local people.

A source revealed the comment referred to the Finnish TV commercial which saw a hunky guy making an epic journey to deliver a Kingis ice cream bar to a girlfriend – only to end up going off with her straight boyfriend.

The source added “This advert is one of the most famous and controversial in Finland – it’s like Peter Kay’s John Smiths advert in the UK. Everyone knows it.

Should probably rethink that on a worldwide broadcast show.

Not bad the second part, my favorite part of these specials is getting to know the countries and my god the last minutes showed Nambia to be gorgeous. Loved the slow motion bits, would have loved if they got normal cars to do this but it's apparent no car can survive this.

Accepting that this show is not actually Top Gear has helped me overcome my disappointment rising out misplaced expectations, and now I enjoy the show for what it is now.

There's always the worry that with a different location for each episode, their sense of humour might not always caught on with the audience. But this is just like the reverse! Now you know how the rest of the world feels when old TG makes a reference only British peeps understand :P

Yeah but the difference there is TG was a program funded by the British public, made by a British corporation for that British public first and foremost. Then it was sold around the world. The Amazon show is however a worldwide show to start with, it's funded, essentially, by worldwide Amazon sales.

Still, I don't think it matters if they throw in regional jokes but when the rest of the world doesn't have context, you have to be careful. This ice cream joke just came across as absolutely bizarre to anyone not familiar with that advert. It might have been wiser for Hammond to say "Look, I've got proof" and show the advert.

Very average episode the latest one for me, a few funny moments but really meh.

Saw what appeared to be a roadkill weasel in the latest episode, googled "top gear weasel"....hmmm. Possible jab at the ginger guy?

Most of it was pretty good I thought, felt quite TG, but that last part was utterly pointless. "Richard" builds tank vehicles, "Jeremy and James" destroy them. Why? It was neither funny nor entertaining, but presumably very expensive.

I also never really got the point of the "killed" presenter disappearing from the last studio segment, when everyone, most of all that audience, knows the films were done months ago, even if you do pretend they are "dead".

It was a squirrel I think I wouldn't read anything in to it.

Apart from the NSX bit, an abomination of an episode and I want my time back spent watching the bits I didn't ffwd.

This was probably the weakest episode yet in all honesty.

The ending felt like a massive "look how big my 🤬 is!" competition. The past few times they've flexed the muscle of their budget, it's been relatively funny. That wasn't.

It's getting quite obvious the show is flexing its budget (Did they really have to destroy that last post-apocalyptic vehicle? It seemed pretty high tech) but there were moments I enjoyed, particularly Richard and James disagreeing with Jeremy's voiceovers.

I like this episode except the last plot. Just like eran004 said, they wasted an opportunity to make interesting challenge with 3 post-apocalyptic cars, but made another "Hammond is loser lol".
Also, if we use some imagination, these apocalyptic cars should protect a driver from usual but angry people with some usual guns and not from the modern war machines, isn't it?

Agreed the last episode was meh. James' review of the NSX was so short and he didn't really say anything we didn't already know. Plus the wet lap - you'd think with their budget they can afford a road dryer machine so we can finally have all lap times on equal conditions. The rest of the episode is pretty disjointed and nothing more than showing off their budget as usual. One of the charms of old TG is showing the 3 dorks building their contraptions (I refuse to call them cars ), catching fire and falling over. Now they just gloss over all that and go straight to driving it...only to destroy it 5 minutes later. Boring.

Off topic for a bit, do you think they will go to Japan for an episode one day? There would be lots of quirky local things they can make fun of, but I wonder if any of the guests will be able to understand the jokes  (no offense to Japanese people who actually understands English)

I could be wrong but I have a feeling they didn't and camera trickery was involved, it did indeed look like a very expensive machine.

They already went to japan in season 10 when the GT-R was released. If you didnt saw the episode I recommend you watch it as it's pretty funny.

But yes, japan is ideal for any reality show anyway since there a lot of difference with the us/europe and lots of thing are different.

As for the last episode, it was my least favorite one. The american is useless and we learn nothing about the car (except James driving feels and the biased american comments) I would much prefer having a pro driver that comments the car and how it behave (understeer, oversteer, wheel feeling, etc..) and I love the NSX but really even the story about it was pretty dull for a James segment. I was expecting something closer to the GT40 sequence.

Blowing stuff up isnt really my things so yeah, as for the vehicule Clarkson build they could have done a better segment. It was horrible. And I dont believe they blew that end of the world vehicule, no way, I would prefer something along what they did in south africa with the other vehicule where he was driving true wall. That was impressive and fun to watch with some people looking at the vehicule weirdly.. This was just stupid imo.

Yeah I watched that episode. The GT-R snapped Jeremy's neck if I remember correctly, on top of him having an eye infection to boot  There was also an episode where they raced a bullet train, but my memory's a bit fuzzy on that one.

There's also the Motorworld episode where Jeremy makes fun of all the car modification trinkets in a typical Japanese auto shop

The Alfa bit was brilliant, but I still hate how they use so many filters and fast cuts. The longer scenes with no filters were beautiful. The coral reef bit was so tedious to watch. I wish they would stop doing non-car stuff.

This - by the 4th cut to time elapse cloud segment in the Alfa piece I lost patience.

I stopped watching the Barbados segment when they ripped up the beach needlessly. What a 🤬 sad series it's turned into.
