The last studio show has been filmed, so enjoy series 3 as it is because when series 4 returns it will just be 4 specials in one year.

To be honest if they are good quality episodes (aka those classic intercontinental 1 hour road trips) I'm ok with this. I'd rather have quality than quantity. Clearly S1 (and S2 to an extent) suffers from "what are we going to do with our budget" syndrome in some episodes and challenges. There's some challenges where they are literally burning money for the sake of it, and not necessarily makes for a better show. Condense your episodes, use the money to go to exotic locations and good cars/cinematography/writing and they'll be putting out stuff like their hyeyday in no time.

Totally agree with this, who’d of thought that too much money could be a bad thing?

I just hope they can live up to the specials they ran with the Beeb, I still find myself laughing at May knocking himself out by standing the wrong side of a tow rope.

Quite sad that they are ending the studio stuff, they started doing it in 2002...

As much as I like the specials I just hope they aren't abandoning evaluating new vehicles that come out. I could do without the studio audience and Conversation Street but I don't want them to stop looking at the new stuff either.

Richard seems to have the bigger accidents but IMO James tend to have the more serious ones. Remember when he got knocked off the horse in Patagonia as well?

Funnily enough Jeremy has the biggest risk taker image of the trio but I can't remember if he's had a serious accident.

I'm sure they'll have a way of integrating it with the specials. It's not all going to be trips with crapboxes. They did lots of supercar road trips and car vs other forms of transport specials as well. Besides, times change and with the internet you can get loads of reviews of the newest stuff that is more informative than a 10 minute satirical jokey review. You'll miss Jeremy's witty comments and the excellent cinematography, but that's about it.

The trio never aimed to make informative reviews (at least not in a "traditional" sense). They basically just say what they think.

If it is pure 1 hour specials, it's either going to be a very short series or it'll struggle. The old top gear Christmas specials, some were great but others like the South America one felt forced. The show worked because they had short funny films, like the £1000 car challenges split up with other stuff.

As someone else said, the lack of budget restrictions seems to have impacted them, it's almost like they've done stuff just to spend the money.

I know. I'm more referring to 10 year olds who think everything Clarkson says is gospel and TG is the 100% most accurate source of car news. While it's sad losing new car reviews in the new format, for me the loss is not being able to see Clarkson make fun of things, not the informative side.

The Studio segments are sadly going away. The only thing that really hasnt worked till now (in my opinion) are the celebrity racing parts oper the first few seasons. I would have liked to see A-list guests with some racing pedigree competing for the best time over the season..

Imagine if they got back all the celebrities that actually cared about their laps and had a race with them. It would be edited down to a 10 minute segment with loads of cuts but it would still be fun to see them enjoying themselves at a pseudo club meet

I don't really know 99% of the celebs they invited so I won't miss it. They should occasionally invite current and ex F1 drivers (along with top past and current world champions from various other disciplines of racing) to set a laptime. Kinda like ROC but in TT form. Should be doable with their budget and provides way more interesting competition and driving than people who just come in to promote their fame.

Some good banter in Ep1, many a Hammond crash joke was used. Senna segment was good, excellent cinematography as usual but it felt a little bit too short and light. I guess that's me being used to Chris Harris though and his brand of entertaining but still very technical walkthroughs of cars.

I didn't realise from the promo shots shown beforehand that May's car was actually The Exorcist, I thought it was a "normal" ZL1 1LE. I reckon it might have actually been a more interesting match between it and the RTR on the track if it WAS just a 1LE and didn't have the extra poke but then again, "Mr. Slowly" would have seen to it that it would still have been slower.

Average start to the season with some incredible cars on show. The episode felt a bit light on content (which is to be expected form a 13 episode season.

Watched it earlier this afternoon, it was an entertaining but fairly standard start to the series. It's just good to have the three of them back, some of the bits from the season preview look like they could be really good. It would have been nice to see one or two more feaures in the episode, but overall I thought it was a decent though not spectacular start.

It is nice to have the boys back. Also nice to see them in America to open the season. I didn't really care much for the buying the rundown house thing. Thought it was a waste of time.

I liked the good vs. evil aspect with the Demon against the Exorcist and I thought it was funny when they finally met and Hammond had to do all those conversions to the car.

That was there to further show how bad things are in Detroit. I knew Detroit was bad off but I didn't know it was that bad.

Have they gotten rid of the stupid killing the celebrities bit? I certainly hope so.

Yes the killing celebrities thing ended after season 2 I think. Then they went to a head to head race which they still might do this year but they didn't do this episode so they could show the head to head Demon vs. Exorcist drag race.

I'm hoping season 4 eliminates all of the celebrity things.

The celebrity segement only works when the person is competitive. The best Celebrity segments in Top Gear where with real race cardrivers and with really competitive drivers like Atkinson, LeBlanc, Jaykay, jimmy car etc. In last season there where to many drivers that were just having fun and not competitive at all. Perhaps some real Rallycross style head to head racing would improve the segment.

Surprised by how close the feel is to classic Top Gear, which bodes well for S3. The jokes seem to flow more naturally now and not as forced. They should've waited until the Shelby GT500 is out and used that instead though ;)

Surprised how much quicker the Senna is compared to the Aston too. I couldn't remember if the Aston was on slicks for that lap but I would've expected it to have a much higher downforce courtesy of that massive rear wing and not needing to comply to road safety regs. I reckon the Senna wins by virtue of being lighter and not having to turn a massive V12 up front.

I really enjoyed the 1st episode of season 3 but I guess liking the cars helps. I hope they continue with the theme of not having a celebrity section.

Am I the only one who didn’t find it entertaining in any way, I was hoping the Senna review might be good to watch but even that was naff.

I think i just prefer the way people like Chris Harris, Tiff Needell etc. review cars on screen.

Meh for me. Out of curiosity I checked how TG is fairing (which I gave up on) and to my surprise that became a better show than GT. Watching season 25 and I really like it.

Am I the only one who didn’t find it entertaining in any way,

Mainly because I didn't buy a 4k TV to watch 4k footage of Clarkson's and May's deteriorating teeth

I'll agree it was lacklustre. I mildly chuckled at some of the darker jokes in the tent and the jab at Jeremy as host of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

The Senna segment could've been more, and I don't think they truly conveyed how fast the damn thing was. They simply gawkedand moved on to Jeremy demolishing vegetable plots again

Other than that... a waste of time really.

My MOPAR bias aside, the segment with "rebuilding" the Demon was far too exaggerated and drawn out, and truly made the race unenjoyable and pointless.

There could have been a segment after the race where they point out parts thrown about hidden behind some shed or something... That could've made it more entertaining by having a fight about how unfair it was, but to sit there and listen to them moan about rebuilding it...

As for the seasonal changes, I welcome Season 4 with open arms. Ditch the tent. It had so much promise, but with legality issues with the BBC there was no point and it will never be as entertaining as it was with TG.

Killing the celebrities was in season 1 only, season 2 changed it to celebrity face-off, and in episode 1 of season 3 there were no celebrity deaths/interviews/face-offs at all. We'll have to wait and see if that stays the same right the way through the season.

I definitely feel like the jokes that they make feel a lot less "forced" and more natural this time. I can't put my finger on why exactly but it definitely seems much better than the last two seasons

Def felt that way. Really enjoyed that.

Enjoy the cars and locations, their foolish trips and competitions are hilarious.

Acting is campy and cringe worthy but best tv is just their natural ramblings and ball busting captured on cam.
