Good race guys. Daytona is a certain kind of animal. You try hard to hold your line, not turn anybody, run anyone over, and all of us are probably guilty of not being perfect. Too difficult not to be. Long race, lots of turbulence, car jumping around, contact. So many factors leave you wondering at the end of the race "am I the asshole"? Its racing and at some point you gotta quit worrying about being careful and just drive your ass off. I thought a few people really need some "holding their line " practice. But I'm probably guilty of moving around too. Or some let off the throttle practice. But this race was probably a good learning experience for everybody.
Track defiantly had the fastest car but Killer obviously wasn't going to be denied. Dude had a long speedweeks and practiced everyday. I really thought, as I was leading the last lap, I might be able to hold off Killer if I held the low line. Me? Hold Killer off, on the last lap at Daytona? Yes, that was my train of thought. I practiced pretty hard all week as well. More than I ever have. Well Killer got by on the outside going into 3 and then I made what I thought was the move of the race. I slipped up half a lane right in front of Ace, who had a good run on me, held 2nd for myself and prevented a Ford 1-2 finish. I made that move without my rearview and it could have been disastrous. I did it for all that's right with America and not letting a racecar with a duck on the hood finish any higher than it needed to.
I gotta thank my teammate Bowtie for sending me his setup. I had a setup that I thought was pretty good. I wasn't gonna sit on pole with it but I could lay down fairly competitive times. The one Bowtie gave me made the car feel less like trying to pilot a shoebox around the corners. Thanks Bowtie, I owe ya one. In closing, wonderful first win Killer, 2nd felt like a win to me, I feel like some love got spread where it hasn't been spread before and that's a good thing for everybody.
