The Apple Thread

It certainly feels like it. I'd take a Nexus over a 4S too though. The thing is, why were people paying more for the 4S when we bought the N4 if it was so obviously a better phone? My wife received her 4S well after the N4 was purchased. It was the best apple had to offer, and so it was chosen for her over obviously superior hardware.

Because the android side is innovating quickly while the apple side relies on fanatics to continue purchasing outdated equipment at premium prices.
The iPhone 5 was out before the Nexus 4.

I found it the other way around, Apple are innovating quickly regarding internal specifications while Android side processor wise has stood sort of still for last two years. No doubt Apple are selling a phone that costs very little to make for a lot of money but if you can keep doing that then makes very good business sense. It will be quite difficult soon though as new Android phones will come out that will catch up with Apple with one big leap so it will be hard for Apple to stand out when new budget Android phones might have similar / more performance than the new iPhone and current flagship Android phones with much better battery life too.

That top pano looks oddly good considering the different lighting across the frame. Does the new camera automatically adjust the exposure while taking the pano? I know my 4S sure doesn't and it's a real pain sometimes.
I believe so.

Well my iPhone plus arrived today. Just done a restore and currently living it.

This just in: Precognitive spellcheck STILL not available on iPhone 6+. :P

Glad you're liking it, @Sprite! My wife just bought her 5S a few months ago so hopefully she can hold out until her upgrade time comes back around.

Is her next upgrade in one or two years? By that time, an iPhone 7 or maybe an iPhone 8 will come out in that time.

Gaaah, I want to upgrade to the 6 so badly, but still have a few months left on my 4S's contract... It's way too tempting to pay the cancellation fee (which will probably be an arm and a leg) and upgrade now.

Dang! Was typing quick on the iPad while restoring the backup from my 5. I personally don't like the predictive text option on iOS 8.

Luckily my contract was up so started a new one and bought the phone directly from Apple.

My contract was due for renewal in March, but I went on a rolling sim-only contract and kept my 4S so I can upgrade any time... I just can't be bothered yet because my 4S is still fine. The battery life is a bit iffy but that's the only problem I'm having with it.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I'm just a human shaped magpie and it will be my downfall. My 5 is absolutely fine and will keep rolling for some time to come, but I'm drawn to new and shiny things. :)

The lock button on my 4S has been stuck for quite some time, but I think I will be keeping it for as long as I can. Or at least until the contract runs out.

It's worth noting there's a Galaxy Note 3 follow up video to that too, and it held up much better. I'd like to see them do the LG G3 since it's the same size as the 6 Plus but it's got a plastic case at the back and is lighter.

I wish everyone would stop assuming that if the screen sizes are the same, the phones themselves are the same sizes. The G3 is 8mm longer and about 7mm wider than the regular 6, because the latter has absolutely huge bezels at the top and bottom. The Note 3 and 4 would be a better comparison to the 6+, coming in at only a couple of mm larger but again a considerably larger screen.

I think it's one of these first gen issues that they will fix with the next revision. Because the iPhone 6 doesn't have a traditional wrap around metal bezel separating the front and back it's more susceptible to flex. Having said this it would never undergo those forces in normal use and as far as I can see it still works fine.

You would hope something this expensive would feel much studier, I guess they went lightness over quality. They should have used carbon fibre like the Motorola Droid Razr on the rear.

Psh just bend it back. :P

...and it cracked!

Chick puts it in back pocket of tight jeans... bends over... done.

(also it cracked when bent back)

I can't understand why anyone puts phones in their back pockets, I have never put anything in those pockets my whole life. For one your just asking for it to be nicked and secondly you forget something is there and sit down. Any phablet would break if you going to put them in tight jeans and bend over. That's why girls have clutch bags!

If it was bent the last thing you should do is bend it back. It should be opened up and have the internals transferred to a new rear casing.

Regardless it is a force that the device may experience during normal use, and once it was bent it was effectively broken whether you transfer anything to a new device or not.

Does the regular iPhone 6 bend like that as well or is it just the Plus?

Edit: Found my answer

No, no it doesn't. Not as much anyway.

So far so good with mine. Will have to keep my eye on it. It has been in my front pocket of my jeans all day at work while I've been sat at a desk.

We'll see.

I think what has happened here is Apple engineered the iPhone 6 in its small form and when making the 6 Plus instead of recalculating the design to compensate for stresses a larger size would have to tolerate, they simply enlarged the design which has resulted in a weaker casing.

Note to Apple, don't just set the photocopier to +50% and send it to Foxconn!

Well you could still use it bent along as you haven't shattered the LCD and touch still works. Depends what constitutes broken, aesthetically yeah.

I messed up there, I meant to say the same screen size. My bad.
The comparison I was trying to make was that the LG shows that you don't have to have a huge bezel to get the same screen size, so would it bend as easily? The plastic back might make it a bit weaker.

Although I wasn't hugely concerned about this whole 'bend-gate' fiasco, it's still reassuring to see that the 4.7 inch (which I plan to get) is much sturdier than the Plus. Although to be honest, I don't think many people will have an issue with the Plus unless they either try to bend it, or decide to sit on it. Because seriously, who keeps their phablet in their back pocket?!

Apple can’t seem to catch a break, with the tech giant’s second update for its iOS8.0.1 operating system failing to fix iPhone glitches.

The company removed the first update for its mobile operating system yesterday after reports it left customers unable to make calls or send texts.

Around 40,000 of the company’s next generation smartphones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, were affected by the glitches, tech site re/code reports.

Today, just hours after the iOS8.0.2 went live, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners have claimed their smartphone issues have not been fixed.

“Spotlight not working with apps or searching messages in IOS8.0.2,” wrote one owner on Twitter.

Another wrote: “Update to #iOS8.02 erased all my keyboard shortcuts. What’s wrong with you, Apple?”

Others were yet to brave downloading the update.

“Someone test this #iOS802 and tell me how it goes ... cause I’m not,” one iPhone owner wrote.

While another wrote: “If #IOS8.02 doesn’t fix the issues with Bluetooth I’m gonna #losemys**t”.

An Apple spokesman told ninemsn he was aware the second update had gone live, but was unable to comment on reports it had since been removed.

For those who have already downloaded the update and are continuing to have problems re/code has steps you can take to revert back to iOS 8.0.

These steps are not fool proof, so please note you may need to put your phone into recovery mode for a successful restore.

The first thing you need to do is download a copy of iOS 8.0, which can be found here.

Then you need to turn off the ‘Find My iPhone’ settings on your phone. This can be done through going to Settings, selecting iCloud, Find My iPhone and then switching it to off.

In order to revert to iOS 8 you’ll need to restore your phone, so this means backing up your device. To do this you’ll need to connect your iPhone to iTunes through a USB cable and then select ‘Back Up Now’.

When you’re in iTunes, hold down the option key, select the file you downloaded earlier and then click ‘Restore iPhone’.

After iOS 8 is installed, your phone will reboot. When it has completed its reboot, select ‘Restore Backup’.

Earlier this month, Apple set a new sales record with the weekend launch of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, selling 10 million models in the first three days after the phones went on sale.

So much for apples product testing.
