The Barclay's Premiership - 05/06 season over (plenty of spurs toilet humor here)

I think it's the referree's, they don't command any respect. They don't deserve any respect. I mean look at the case od Distan getting sent off for city today. Drogba handballs the ball (obviousely) and then scores, Distan complains to the ref and he gets a yellow card. During half time he takes the ball to the ref and the conversation goes like this...
Distan - "Why was I booked?"
Ref moving his hands to draw a ball in mid air - "Give me the ball"
Distan - "Why was I booked?"
Ref still drawing a ball in the air - "Give me the ball and go away"
Distan "I just want to know why I was booked"
Ref - "Okay you've had it" draws a second yellow and sends him off.
How is that keeping players under control, in Rugby the ref's get the players respect, they're an asset to the game not a hinderance to the players. If the referree's could stop treating footballers like primary school kid's at least the on-pitch attitude would be greatly reduced and that might filter into the crowds, though it might be too little alone for big changes.

Then you have the Liverpool derby, okay Gerrard should have been sent off, he kicked the ball away and then did a late challenege shortly after, the ref had no choice. But the straight red he gave in the second half was harsh, very harsh. The player had just come on and not long after makes a challenge that should have been a yellow card, the ref gives a straight red. Now if it was a player who'd been on for a while giving loads of little fouls away, I could understand, but it was his first challenge and not a red card one at that.

Also the incident where a player was telling the ref to move the wall back for a free kick, he was measuring the distance between the ball and it was roughly 7 yards, he was proving it to the ref, but the ref did nothing. If he carried on the ref was going to book him for protesting , it's laughable the way the ref's try to police the games.

I have to say, credit to Birmingham for not giving up after the first half, they came out and looked like a different team in the second half, regardless of the fact we wen't down a couple of gears, they showed spirit and upped their game. We still won 3-0, should have been 5, two bad misses from Shrek.

Off-late the referees are feeling too powerful and that what they say is final, it seems like they can't be reasoned with or talked to anymore. Look at the Liverpool-Birmingham game, there where quite a lot of cards which in my opinion shouldn't have been given but hey!

Does anyone know when will the Arsenal game will be re-scheduled for?

My friend's dad was on Watchdog, I forgot to watch it though.

Anyway back on topic, i think West Brom are playing Tottenham tonight. My prediction is 3-1 to Tottenham.

Ruud's back ... though he really never was "gone". It's more tough choices ahead for Ferguson. On one hand, Saha pairs well with Rooney, and he provides more of a support/on-the-ball role than van Nistelrooy does. The team seems to run better with those two up-front. But on the other hand, how do you disclude one of the best strikers in the world (one of the most clinical, deadly finishers in the world), and the leading goalscorer in the Premiership? I'm positive that he's not going to replace Rooney, who is probably one of the best players in the world right now, with van Nistelrooy, and I doubt he'd resort to having three forwards.

Choices, choices.

That's what he's paid for, though.

Very true Jim! Sometimes choices can be very difficult and inevitably someone will end up unhappy like Ruud a few weeks back when Saha started to make his re-appearance in the squad. I guess the forwards are just going to have to be rotated continuously until Fergie can think of a nice compromise or unless someone decides to leave! :scared:

I think Ruud is a more rounded striker than Saha, I think as a single player he's better. Saha's been pairing better with Rooney recently, and is finally having a run of games without getting himself injured, which is nice. The main reason I think Saha became the number one over the last month or so is because Ruud had a dip in form that went on for a few games which happened to be as Saha was coming back, Ferguson will have wanted him to fight for his place which will have forced him to get back on form. I think in the long run Ruud will remain the overall number 1 choice, he'll just have to deal with Saha taking his place every now and then.

I think Ruud is going to get sold.

I also think Arsenal are more than capable of beating chelsea next season.

I think I could be wrong.

I don't think Rudd will be sold, he's shown no desire to leave and is still gettig on with Ferguson, the fans still love him and getting dropped as the first choice for a small number of games is no sign that he's on his way out. All that's happened is Morriatti has said he want's Ruud and he knows Ruud isn't happy here, the latter part being a load of rubbish said simply to fan the speculation and hopefully from his point of view get Man U interested in hearing his offer since he's shown an interest. I do think Chelsea will have a harder ime next season I think both Man U and Arsenal if they can be consistent enough can better Chelsea.

I agree. Chelsea are going to have it tough next season. I predict a really close season next season within the top five or six. United, Liverpool and Arsenal are all looking very strong, as well as Tottenham. If Blackburn can continue the way they're playing, things are looking well for them, and if Everton can start off their season well, they might be up there, too.

I'm actually really looking forward to next season, it's going to be a tough one to pick.

I think Chelsea will definitely make a couple of big buys in the summer. They are still lacking a prolific striker, one who scores as much as Henry or Van Nistelrooy. I would say that is the only position they need to strengthen.

Definitely. We've lacked it for quite some time. Drogba and Crespo are no more than simple "tap-in" strikers, with Drogba knocking in a few headers here and there.

I'm not sure if that's what Mourinho is looking for, though. He seems to be more focused on bringing in star-quality midfielders, though I don't think I'll complain about getting Michael Ballack!

I definitely think we need a van Nistelrooy type player. Hell, maybe even van Nistelrooy himself, with the way things are panning out with him? :dopey:

Michael Ballack will grab a few goals i'm sure but we really do need a striker like Henry, Van Nistelrooy or Shevchenko who scores every week. Gudjohnsen is one of my favourite players, i've always liked him and i'm glad Mourinho didn't get rid of him.

I'm really impressed with Arsenal's result today - going to have to watch the game later on tonight!

I expected Chelsea to see Birmingham off easily and Everton to rig up a better result than a draw against Sunderland, suppose the heat is on and everyone is giving it their all. :D

It was 17 points ahead not too long ago :mischievous:.

Some great goals today, but not from the Chelsea match ;), two good goals from Van the man and Saha, we should be playing them both together more often, it'd be like when we had Cole and York together. Two strikers on at once playing off each otherother well.

Now Chelsea can't drop 7 points against West ham at home.
Bolton away
Everton at home
Man U at home
Blackburn away and
Newcastle away.

If you draw against Bolton and Blackburn and lose to us, and we win all our remaining home games left, we've won the title back. It could be close, could be very close.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I dont want ManU or Chelski to win it. ManU fans will never shut up if they win but then if they do everyone can taunt chelski how they couldnt buy the premiership anymore.

Never shut up, we've won it more times than anyone else, we don't need to brag ;). We may gloat to Chelsea fan's though. Ofcourse we'd be happy about it and show it just like the fans from any club.

The Chelsea v Man U game right before the end could be the decider depending on if you draw any when we win. Were well on form, you guy's have dropped off a bit, It's getting tense .

Wow, Man U are on quite the roll. They've got a couple of toughies at the end though - Arsenal and Tottenham are no second-raters and Chelsea are top of the pops.

So a tough run home for Man U, but with their current form it should be a good scrap up at the pointy end. :mischievous:

Our only away game left is at Chelsea, the biggie. Arsenal are on form as well at the moment so that would be tough but playing at home is a big plus. Tottenham at Old Trafford won't be a walk over either, but I'm less concerned about that game than the other two, them getting beaten over the weekend helps.

Must be a great season close for neutral spectators .

The Manchester City - Middlesborough game was a very interesting one today not that result was unexpected seeming as City have never beaten Boro' in the Premiership. The first half was pretty boring with Cattermole clinching the only goal. The second half lightened up a notch or two with Boro making more shots on target. David James managed to get some decent saves in today - pretty unusual. :D

The Charlton and West Ham game was always going to be a close tight game. Two prettty evenly matched teams, around the same place in the tables - the goalless draw didn't come as a big surprise to me! Although i do feel West Ham could have easily gone up on a number of brilliant chances.
