Page 9 - Reliance
We're off to a rather slow start. But Hiroyuki did increase his pace. Meanwhile, I am looking at the map of Europe. I have no idea that the continent is that big, and a race like this exists after all. What does the continent have to host such enduring race? Speed is not the only crucial factor for winning this.
On to another topic, Hiroyuki promised to share his tale. And also, I'm curious why a cool and emotionless man briefly went out of his way and shed tears. It's not easy to hold your emotions in. Sometimes, you have to let it go.
As I lay down the map and looked at the window, we have entered in a small city.
All along, Hiroyuki uses only one hand to steer, and the other to change gears. Is that possible?
The car turns smoothly, in contrast to my aggressive style. Maybe that's what I lack. His personality clearly reflects this smoothness in driving.
Hiroyuki: "It seems that I'm ready."
Michiharu: "Ready for what?"
Hiroyuki: "I'm ready to tell it all."
Michiharu: "Go on. I'm willing to listen."
Hiroyuki: "Ten years ago, my parents separated."
Whoa... so you also didn't have a happy childhood after all.
Hiroyuki: "Then in a cruel twist of fate, both of them died. My father died a year after the divorce, and then my mother died 3 years ago. I loved them both, and did my best to keep their marriage together, but there are some things I couldn't handle, probably because I was young to understand them anyway."
Hiroyuki: "My family owns a real estate business. While it does provide more than enough for my family to live, there's plenty of stress to deal with in exchange. And that reality hit me really hard when my mother died.
I have to handle this, handle that. Talk to this client, talk to that client. And then my little brother relied on me a lot ever since, attending to his every need. It's not just him, but also everyone in the business, whether employee or client. There's too much burden for me to handle. It's like I have to do everything for them. I'm even wondering why people can't get better by themselves. It's tiring..."
Hiroyuki: "And that pushed me to enter in to the world of racing. I have to distance myself from the stresses of the real world. I want to be alone, I want to express myself. Unfortunately, that even didn't solve my problems. My brother followed suit, and belongs to a racing team. I, on the other hand, declined every offer from the racing teams. I want to be alone. Then my fans are an icing on the cake.
Why? Because I don't want anyone depending too much on me, as if they are the chicks waiting for the mother bird to feed them. What if I lose a race? Then it could plummet everyone down. So when I'm alone, I'm the only one taking the beating. I don't want to be the mother bird. I want people to get stronger by themselves through experience. My loneliness made me stronger, and lead me to what I am today.
Dependence is a weakness. That's what I truly believe in."
So now you've come clean. But you know what... that's the most ridiculous excuse I've heard, EVER!
Michiharu: "You know what, I salute you for your courage to tell it. It's not easy for you, I know, but...
...that doesn't give you the right to shut everyone out in your life!"
I'll teach him a thing or two about trust and reliance! Well, on the next part... please wait for it.

The trio headed to the Ferrari headquarters in Italy. While Ben is obviously not in the mood in this place, Tomoko is looking at the cars in the museum in awe. Then Gan is signing on some papers. The secretary then leads them at the area where they could pick up a car that Gan has purchased.
Ben: "Oh bloody hell..."
Tomoko: "Amazing!"
Gan: "The reason why I've assembled this racing team, is that I want to reach the World Sports Car Championships! It's my dream... and now with this car, we are one step closer!"
Tomoko: "I don't question your wealth, but aren't there only 4 of these cars? It's mighty expensive because of that."
Gan: "I know that. But it will be a lifetime achievement for me. Although I don't have the necessary skill to drive this. I am counting on you... and Michiharu. I think this will be the car that he'll never forget."
Ben: "Better be worth it. As far as I'm concerned, he has yet to control her Stratos and my Countach."
Gan: "I'm sure he'll be able to conquer. With each and every race, he becomes sharper, like a samurai's katana."

Passione Italia will be one of Takuma Gaiden's titles. However, do take note that what's written here are the events that still take place before the start of the Gaiden, so that the readers will have an idea what's in store.
Location: Motoring Weekly Office, Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
Time: 5 pm
It's a normal setting in the office. Everyone is present... except for Takanori who is taking a dump in the bathroom.
At Takuma's cubicle, rolls of tissue are on his desk, with Takuma snickering. Since the bathroom is just beside the work area, they can hear Takanori's shouts.
Takanori: "If this is your way of making me spill out our GT3 car, I can sit here all day long! Ha!"
Takuma: "I hope you enjoy it! Hehehehehe..."
Nobuyuki: "You must be really dedicated for it, huh?"
Suddenly, Takuma's smartphone rings. It's Horacio Pagani from Italy on the other line.
Takuma: "And who is this? Horacio Pagani? I wonder how's that old man doing...
Hello?"
Pagani: "Ciao! How's it going? I have updated your Zonda R according to your feedback. And I used it to set the new lap time at the Nurburgring."
Takuma: "With Mark Basseng behind the wheel, I suppose."
Pagani: "Not this time. I did the driving."
Takuma: "You know your cars, anyway. So what's the lap time?"
Pagani: "6 minutes and 25 seconds, 20 seconds faster than the early Zonda R driven by Mark Basseng."
Takuma: "You only increased 10 horsepower, right? I assume the improvements are mostly on the aerodynamics and suspension."
Pagani: "Yes, as you suggested, and also the car is wrapped in Matte Black per your request too. It shall now be named as the Zonda 770R Takuma."
Takuma: "Change the name. I want it meaner."
Pagani: "Such as?"
Takuma: "Zonda 770R Nero Drago."

Location: Monza, Italy.
Time: 12 pm
In a home nearby the Monza Circuit, it's a typical lunch time. With noodles being tossed, with the sauce ready, a mother prepares lunch.
Carmela Agostini is the mother in question. She has retired from racing 10 years ago, but contributes to Ferrari's racing activities and supports her son's career as well. Her son,
Alfredo, is in fact an owner of a reputable shoe store that has branches all around Europe.
She calls out her son to let him know that lunch is served.
Alfredo takes the utensils, and is delighted at the taste of his mother's pasta.
Alfredo: "Perfect! I love it! An excellent way to start off my practice."
Carmela: "Oh, aren't the crew from Ferrari will arrive? The trailer will load your FXX, right?"
Alfredo: "Yes. They must be here within 30 minutes."
He briefly checks his tablet for racing news. Then he comes across this article:
Pagani once sets the new lap record at the Nurburgring Norschleife for production-derived racing cars with one of the customer Zonda Rs. Horacio Pagani himself set the lap record with the Zonda 770R Nero Drago.
The Zonda 770R Nero Drago is the updated version of the 760R Takuma owned by Takuma Kanonji, one of the prominent racing car drivers around the world. The modifications are requested by the owner, and they help the car smash the 6:47.5 lap time set by Mark Basseng.
He returns to eating instead, not allowing himself to be bothered by such article knowing that it's the car owned by the son of his mother's rival.
After lunch, the crew from Ferrari loaded up his FXX and then head to Monza Circuit. After the initial set up, Alfredo is cleared to go.
Alfredo: "Once again... I've seen his name. This is enough! I shall make him change his views on Ferraris! My mother's defeat will be the last!
I, Alfredo Agostini, am the fastest Tifosi in the world! Ferrari is the greatest car manufacturer in the world! Forza Ferrari!"
AUTHOR'S NOTES:
- Passione Italia will be in 2 parts, though. It's not just about the rivalry of the badge snobs named Takuma and Alfredo.
