Moora is back.

Only problem: I just don't want to bullieve that it had to cost 15 million credits. Dammit PD, for churning by butter. And now, I'm milking with rage! At least we can still squirt it with milk paint.

Enough chewing grass, SomeDude, and get back to work.

To me, the believability that we're still in the 80s is in trouble with the black Stig's helmet on the loose. :P

But that doesn't matter. All is good, but I can see that Michiharu feels awkward when trying to make a point (which is nice, because realistic). And i got a little confused when the next passage was still him rambling. Try some narration in between regarding the surroundings, or Hiroyuki's face, or how he felt at the time.

Duel Time!

Any volunteers for Richard's C2 Corvette? Here's what it should have:

290 HP
451 PP
1355 kg
Stock transmission
LSD
Carbon Driveshaft
Suspension setup is up to the volunteer.
Sebring Silver Metallic
American Racing VN500

The duel will take place in Cote 'd Azur.

Page 11 - One More Try

At the inn, Michiharu got to sleep early an hour after dinner from the cafe. Hiroyuki, meanwhile, looks at his partner, and then returns to looking at the stars at the balcony.

Wind is blowing by, but that didn't change Hiroyuki's mood. He thinks over what Michiharu had said.

"IT MEANS THAT YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON! THAT YOU ARE RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY! DOESN'T IT FEEL GOOD WHEN PEOPLE SEE THOSE QUALITIES IN YOU?!?"

Hiroyuki: "He is right... I do sense fulfillment whenever I help out someone. But, too much of something is bad, and that's a fact.

However, it's something that can go on forever. I have to embrace the fact that there are people that need me.

Michiharu Kanonji... there's something mystical within him. He has this power, that power to change people around him. Was he born with it? It's ironic, given his circumstances.

To think he's the only person who came up, and beat some sense to me. He's truly the person I respect. I respect his strength, the strength he acquired from his hardships, and used it to be a better person instead of sulking in the hatred he got from the people around him.

I think... I have finally met my match. Someone that can make me tremble on my feet."

With the wind getting stronger, Hiroyuki decides to go back in, and closes the door along with sliding the curtains.

**************************************************************************************

The next morning, the two wake up early. The two didn't even have a slight conversation during their breakfast at the cafe. They immediately checked out, and this time around Michiharu is behind the wheel.

Hiroyuki: "Michiharu... about last night, I think you're right."

Michiharu:
"Didn't expect you to say that."

Hiroyuki: "I recognize my mistakes in life, you know?"

13757266643_be2e99f5e7_c.jpg

I'm applying the techniques Ben have taught me. They do pay off, considering that this car is underpowered as that Italian man had claimed. While Hiroyuki plays the wheel, I play the pedals. Well, consider the latter a basic technique that all race car drivers utilize.

Michiharu:
"Glad to hear it. I'm happy that I helped someone at this point on."

Hiroyuki:
"I should give it one more try."

Now that's what I want to hear from you!

Michiharu:
"That's the spirit! I won't be much of a burden to you, as I will follow your command.

I rely on you for directions, and you rely on me on driving. This is a fair proposition, and I am 100% sure, that this will make us win.

Are you ready?"

Hiroyuki: "I'm ready. I'll take out the map."

13757251675_d2ba01c0f2_c.jpg

Michiharu: "We'll be a team for now. This is a two-person effort, and we have to rely on each other for success."

Hiroyuki: "We are close to the Riviera. Just head straight."

Michiharu: "Roger that. Now time to show you, how faster I am right now!"

I applied the throttle as if there's no traffic. Nothing can stop us now! Hiroyuki, are you seeing it? Or are you feeling this camaraderie? You're never alone, you know? I won't let you carry the burden all by yourself. We'll carry it together!

**************************************************************************************

Location: Ben's Chalet, Switzerland
Time: 9 am

The trio placed their luggages at the living room, as they are about to leave for London for them to watch the closing ceremonies of the race. Then they have a little breakfast first.

Ben: "I can't believe it, I'm actually going home."

Tomoko: "Don't you miss the place where you call home?"

Ben: "Why would I? That's where my life turned into hell."

Gan: "We have no choice but to watch Michiharu and Hiroyuki cross the finish line. We can stay in a hotel if you want.

Oh, I was wondering what are you two doing in that used sports car lot last night."

Ben: "I was just curious on the selection, since I see that place everyday."

Tomoko:
"Both of us found a used Lamborghini Miura. Ben said that it will be Michiharu's ideal training wheels for the 330 P4."

Gan:
"I'm shelling out money again?"

Ben:
"No worries, both Michiharu and I will do the spending. That car will symbolize our friendship."

Gan:
"You know, we all have to hope he wins the race, so as he can afford to pay half of the Miura's price as you suggest along with his salary. You think he'll want one?"

Ben: "I am certain. At this rate, he wants to be faster. And if you intend him to drive the 330 P4, then he should drive the Miura. It's the closest thing ever to racing car. He has to familiarize himself driving one.

My job for now is to convince that clueless chap."

Gan: "I trust you. I must trust a piece of advice coming from one of Europe's fastest racers."

Ben smiles as he stirs his coffee.

*****************************************************************************

10 am... we are close to Monaco, as Hiroyuki said. I am seeing some bits of the ocean. Perhaps this is called the Riviera, eh?

Unfortunately, we have to take a detour on a highway, as we encountered a major road construction. No worries, though, the highway is not that far.

Suddenly, we encountered a familiar sight when we entered there. It's Richard's Corvette! Are we 2nd place or what? But the real question is, what's our position in the race? Since the race is big and everyone has their own route to follow, we are uncertain if we are on the lead or not.

13757626124_fe40db1343_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "Surprise, surprise... that Yankee is in front of us."

Michiharu: "Will he challenge us?"

Seeing a competitor car behind them, Richard takes a good look at it first.

13757248335_0eee04aed9_c.jpg

Richard: "David, I think we have an opponent behind us."

Danny: "Should we go for it?"

Richard: "Well, I don't care if the highway has a speed limit. One thing is for sure, nothing can touch this 'Vette. Let's go!

The silver Corvette immediately rockets away! It's fast!

13757623344_da4b8a4486_c.jpg

Michiharu: "Amazing speed..."

Hiroyuki: "Don't even bother accelerating. We stand no chance. I know, because my brother owns a car of that type. V8 engines sure make a lot of power."

13757257963_f845b0f50d_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "Once we enter Monaco, then we'll turn the tables."

13757243465_2997f5f17c_c.jpg

Michiharu: "What makes you say that? Have you been there?"

Hiroyuki: "Of course not. But the city itself is a racetrack. Formula 1 races are held there, and since it's a racetrack, it has plenty of corners.

American cars don't have the words "corner", "turn", "chicane", and "hairpin" in their vocabulary. You can count on that."

I read page 11 once.. And then went to do something else... All I could remember after I did that something else was the last line... Because it's so so true. :P Well not really. But I did read it again so I could remember what happened. :D

^ I felt the same way, believe it or not. A synopsis would really help.

And the last sentence... have you ever watched Smokey And The Bandit? A must watch movie where a Trans-Am outran all sorts of mess, even a police bike!

Because it's a hero car, hence it has to act heroic and outrun everyone. 'Nuff said.

Same goes to the Cannonball Countach, those 2 ladies claiming it can reach "220 miles per hour, and the cops won't even have a second glance!"

Though of course, as time passes on, cars improve a lot. The best-handling American sports car in my opinion is the Corvette (from the C5 model up until the latest, C7) because of their transaxle layout that gives them ideal weight distribution that makes them balanced.

The second paragraph wasn't directed at me, but still it's an excuse to refrain from actually shutting up. :P Of course I have! Smokey and the Bandit is damn awesome! :D I haven't watched it in years, the same with Blues Brothers... I have to watch all of these again, I was too young to really notice anything other than police chases before.

Page 12 - Grand Prix

We just had a brief encounter with Richard's Corvette. With that kind of speed, I assume that it's in the same league as Ben's Lamborghini. Even Hiroyuki said that we stand no chance against a car like that...

...on the straights. And, we can turn the tables in Monaco. Why did he say that? He wasn't even been to that place. I don't understand... do some cars have weaknesses through the twists and turns like he said?

I still have a long way to go when it comes to cars, and yet I'm blindly relying on my skills to win.

I look at him while cruising the highway. He is looking at the map, and then stops pointing on a certain location in it.

Hiroyuki: "This is quite hard to pronounce. But we have to exit at the Co... Cote... 'D Azur."

Erm... what? Even he was struggling to say the name of that place.

Michiharu: "What was that?"

Hiroyuki: "As long as you see the word "Cote" on the exit names, take the right lane and head for it. It's the exit for Monaco.

Cote.... Cote.... oh there it is. 1 km ahead. Time to switch to the right lane.

While cruising though, the cars on the road are entirely different from the ones back home. Most are hatchbacks, and yet their styling is appealing to me. Some are curvaceous luxury cars, like a Mercedes or a Jaguar. Are Europeans that affluent?

We got out of the highway, but first...

Hiroyuki: "Let's stop by for a coffee. A good break is needed now and then."

Michiharu: "Okay. Better be a quick stop, though."

Hiroyuki: "I'm sure we'll see that Corvette again."

Michiharu: "How can you tell?"

Hiroyuki: "With the grandeur of Monaco portrayed in various media and in movies, who won't stop and enjoy the sights?"

And... whoa... it's a beautiful sight indeed! Everywhere I look, there are classy stores and restaurants. I can also see the yachts viewing the clear blue ocean. Limousines and luxury cars are everywhere. Even our car would fit in this place perfectly. Yeah, our car is pretty...

I found a coffee shop, and stopped there. Let's see... how much money do I have left? Gan gave me quite a large sum for the trip. All I need is a warm cup of...

...great, I don't know anything about coffee.

Hiroyuki: "Better hurry. We're not the only persons in line."

Michiharu: "Um... uh.... one Viennese Coffee, please."

I paid for it, and that was quite expensive. I am wondering how it looks like. After all is settled, we wait at our table outside.

Michiharu: "So, you said that this is a race track. Why?"

Hiroyuki: "Formula 1 races are held here, you know? See the apex at that corner over there? It's there forever. Race track paraphernalia and even the bleachers are permanently placed here, so that it would save them time for closing the streets for races."

Michiharu: "Fascinating."

Fascinating, indeed. So the government can close streets for sanctioned races, huh? Out of all the cities, why here? The roads are even narrow. I'm sure it's more than just the beautiful seaside view. You can laugh at me as much as you want. I'm so much of a dummy right now. My knowledge in the racing world is zero.

Waitress: "Here are your orders. Enjoy your drink."

Oh, my coffee cup has lots of cream on top. I guess even a cup of coffee has to be stylish, eh? Everything here is frivolous. Even the way the citizens dress up is nothing short of lavish. I think Gan can even live a nice life here.

Drinking the hot cup... the coffee is rather sweet.

After that brief break. We headed out. And then...

Hiroyuki: "See? I told you. And it even stopped beside our car."

Richard is showing a hand signal. A sign that says go... All right, challenge accepted!

Michiharu: "Hop in!"

Hiroyuki: "Are you serious? You'll race him?"

Good question. I'm not even familiar with the roads here.

13843320514_ba5f8ab6d4_c.jpg

I think my instinct just told me to race. 2nd round for us, huh?

13843006783_58b9cdf544_c.jpg

Richard: "What a surprise, we met again. And you took my bait. So you're driving that tiny Alfa a while back."

Danny: "This is scary, man. We don't even know this road."

Richard: "Nothing shall stop me... even that Michiharu guy. I won't lose to him ever again!"

The Corvette once again showed its straight line power.

Hiroyuki: "The key here, is... pressure."

Michiharu: "Huh?"

Hiroyuki: "I've driven this car more than once, and I can guarantee you, that we can win this. This car is willing to cooperate."

And he's right. The Alfa turns easily, that I gained on that Corvette. But...

13843004693_3aa62ef622_c.jpg

The Corvette is losing control easily. That's one thing I don't understand, even I was experiencing those moments when I drove other cars.

But whatever it is, a part of me is telling me to just drive, and do my best! Ben's lecture pays off as well. I am gentle in my inputs.

13843001783_d06fbcf323_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "You have improved your accelerator work. Good job. Keep pressuring him."

Now I get it! The reason why this city is a race track is because of its challenging turns!

13842983435_9e511c9372_c.jpg

Richard: "It's harder than I thought, damn! That little Alfa is gaining on us!"

13842980605_839e80b89b_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "I don't want to mess your head, but the reason I'm confident of this car is because it's the result of Alfa Romeo's know-how in racing. Sophisticated suspension setup with a transaxle layout is the winning combination of a racing car. This car is one of their beautiful products coming from their several decades of racing experience.

In short, nothing beats a well-sorted chassis!"

13842993173_14d39be2ea_c.jpg

Michiharu: "I don't understand what you said, but I'm feeling that it's true!"

The gap is narrowed. I can almost hit him through that turn!

13843323054_5b7ea59b06_c.jpg

13842974235_e1faf7f388_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "That's it, Michiharu! Keep up the pressure! Do the same thing you did when we first met! Be aggressive!"

After a slow hairpin, that Corvette blasts away again, but on the next turn...

13843331944_f06ec52272_c.jpg

Richard: "Take this!"

It's faster through that turn.

Hiroyuki: "He made a mistake. He went in too fast. That pressure paid off."

And he's right once again. The Corvette hit the barrier, and lost control.

13843329464_c78ab20ec2_c.jpg

Danny: "Aaaaaaaaah!"

Richard: "No! Dammit! Piece of s..."

13842967715_fff8f9414d_c.jpg

Michiharu: "Whew..."

Hiroyuki: "That's the price to pay when you have too much power. We can't afford going in circles again. Let's head out."

13842980863_0fe0eae91a_c.jpg

Michiharu: "I wonder if Richard will be okay, though."

Hiroyuki: "No need to think of it. The crash isn't so severe, and that won't make him give up. I'm sure you'll be facing him again in the future."

Michiharu: "Got it. So, where next?"

It seems that Hiroyuki is more open now. As if he's more comfortable in speaking out. That's a good start for him.

Thank goodness my lecture hit him so hard, as hard as my punch on his face.

With that little bout taken care of and won, time to set off. Hmmmm... maybe I could drive around Europe for one more time. It's so fun after all.

But it has to be with Tomoko this time. Just me and her...

...wait, why did I say that?

We are now entering the latter part of Chapter 2, and expect these duels coming up:

Michiharu vs. Sir Shaw (Miura vs. 365 GTB/4 Daytona; quite a short one)
Ben vs. Sir Shaw (Countach LP400 vs. GT40)

And then the three races of World Sports Car Championship (Historic Racing Car Cup)

Just a bit more, and Chapter 2 shall be over soon.

Next page will be about their sprint to Calais, France and to cross the English Channel. It'll be another soft moment for Hiroyuki.

Page 13 - Sir Shaw's Move

I win Round 2, then. See? I just proved to Richard that I have gotten better. I do hope he's okay, though. I'm always up for Round 3. Persistence could sometimes be a healthy trait.

Hiroyuki told me to head north to Calais in France. That place is where we'll take a ferry service that will cross the English Channel to United Kingdom.

Oops... nature calls. We stopped in a gas station to fill up the car and then Hiroyuki decided to drive the car. After my leak, we immediately left. Snack time could probably be later, we're not that hungry.

13868809313_ee9f1649c6_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "Impressive race back there."

Michiharu: "My guts tell me not to lose against him. It's my way of encouraging myself to win."

Hiroyuki: "But that doesn't work all the time, though."

13868778495_7e047757cf_c.jpg

Michiharu: "That could be true. So far, I'm blindingly winning. I have no knowledge on car and racing terms, yet I just push myself to victory."

Hiroyuki: "Soon enough, you'll learn everything. Though I am amazed at your determination to win. Even that eagerness to defeat me intrigued me a lot. Where do you get that positive vibe, if I may ask? As far as I know, you had a childhood that no child wants to be in."

13868775045_84723089b5_c.jpg

13869153164_7995263887_c.jpg

Michiharu: "Look forward... that's what I do. I never, ever look back. Looking back will just bring pain. I want to get out of it. I want to forget the past, and move on."

Hiroyuki: "Moving on, eh? It's easier said than done."

Then we stopped at a port after an hour. After getting a ticket, Hiroyuki took on the task of loading the car on to the ferry. It's possible after all.

He joined me in a cabin, where we enjoy another cup of coffee. Hiroyuki looks out, seemingly absorbed by the view of the ocean.

Oh, I do notice other racers in this ferry too, just so you know.

Suddenly, I noticed something on Hiroyuki's eyes. They're watery... like he's about to cry. But a man's instinct would tell him not to, and fight off the tears.

Hiroyuki: "I was wondering, a while back. How do you move on?"

Michiharu: "It's simple. Forget the painful memories. It was easy for me, since I feel no attachment to my parents, and even down to my missing youngest brother."

Hiroyuki: "That won't be, in my case. I love my parents so much. Thinking of them makes me cry."

Michiharu: "Human beings have weaknesses. Even a man has to cry. I saw you cry the night before the start of the race."

Hiroyuki: "They're my source of strength, and I relied on them a lot ever since I was born. I felt love, and it was there when I needed it.

When they died... all were shattered. My source of strength, gone in an instant. A plane crash took it away. Then I learned to rely on myself, believing that it will gather all that lost strength and attract some more."

So that's how a parental love feels. I'm feeling sympathy, and he's lucky to have loving parents. It would really be difficult for him to move on, knowing how much he loved them.

But that loss actually made him a stronger person, not in the way supposed to be, with shutting out people and all that.

Sir Shaw is alone at the track, playing with his Ferrari 365 GTB4. The performance is not what it was when it came out from the factory floor.

13868797353_1709ca3541_c.jpg

It's the car that brought him a lot of victories. The 4.4 liter V12 makes 400 horsepower, 40 more than the original.

13869147724_a8bc56a475_c.jpg

Sir Shaw changes gears in a more determined fashion, being fueled by his son's insolence.

13868792673_ac23424807_c.jpg

He decides to enter the pit lane, after having done 20 laps straight. His butler attends him, and places his helmet on a table. The butler then prepares tea and takes a plate of biscuits and then puts them on a tray.

Butler: "Sir, would you mind watching the closing ceremonies of Mille Miglia?"

Sir Shaw: "No need. And besides, I have zero involvement with that, anyway. Let the clowns organize the rendezvous."

Butler: "But the team of Gan Kurosawa, where your son belongs to, have joined the race. I'm certain that Sir Ben will be watching."

Sir Shaw: "He'll leave immediately. This country brings painful memories to him. All because of me."

Butler: "So, what's your course of action, sir?"

Sir Shaw takes a sip of his favorite tea mixed with milk. The heat didn't bother him anyway.

Sir Shaw: "We'll head to Switzerland, where he lives. I keep track of his properties, hence I know where his chalet's exact address is. You, will drive my precious Ford GT40. I entrust the car's safety to you."

Butler: "As your butler for 20 years, that shall be an easy task. But what will you do there?"

Sir Shaw: "Teach him a lesson once and for all. The GT40 shall end his insolence."

Butler: "Quite an act..."

Location: A bar in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
Time: 8 pm

It's a typical setting in a bar. Noise dominates at the interior, with numerous people having their dialogue, and other businesses to deal with.

At the long table, there's only one man, still in racing overalls. He asks another pour of sake from the bartender. The man in question has a more youthful look than Hiroyuki. It's Ryuji Hiramoto once again, and he's alone at the bar, but in a celebrating mood.

Bartender: "You've won another race today."

Ryuji: "Of course. That's all thanks to my trusty Shelby GT350. No domestic car can touch it."

Bartender: "I've heard your brother is in Europe, participating a race across the continent."

Ryuji: "Really? I bet he couldn't just do it on his own, that he needs a co-driver for the job. It's time for him to throw away his persona. It's not going to help."

Bartender: "There's a limit of being alone, huh?"

Ryuji: "His ideas of self-reliance shall soon be over. Oh, here's the payment. I'm driving, you know? Thanks for the warm sake."

Still sober enough to drive, he takes the expressway, as a quick route going home.

13869142264_b4bf64b2eb_c.jpg

Seeing a straight that greeted his eyes, he floors the accelerator, and the loud bellow of the V8 echoes around the buildings that surround the stretch.

13868758665_4616bc17a8_c.jpg

Ryuji: "Self-reliance? Yeah, right. As if that will help you, Aniki. I have relied so much in this car, that it took me to victories. That's how me and my car work together!"

13868756235_0201a02b8f_c.jpg

Ryuji: "I'm just as dedicated as Caroll Shelby to his passion of racing. This car is the product of his hard work! The Mustang is the best sports car of the world!"

13868783133_4e54cd60b7_c.jpg

The GT350 continues to roar along the quiet highway.

Page 14 - Thumbs Up

We have safely crossed the English Channel and landed in United Kingdom. After seeing (yet again) Hiroyuki's soft side, I have realized that we actually bear the same pain, the pain of losing the love that we all yearn for. While Hiroyuki kept on hanging in the past, I looked forward, thinking and waiting every opportunity that may come by. Both of us wanted to be better, and stronger...

...but of course, we are on a different level. In the risk of throwing my pride away, I say that Hiroyuki definitely has the knowledge and experience in racing. He has the logic to back up his skill, while I don't have it. I rely on my instinct and determination.

He could be right, that those traits are not enough for me to win. In my previous experiences with the high-powered cars such as Ben's Countach, I lack the necessary knowledge on how to drive a supercar. I'm bound to drive those types of cars in the future, and I lack that knowledge!

I must think about it later, right now we have to win the race. We clearly have no idea on how we're stacking up against others. This is where anxiety comes in...

Hiroyuki: "You'll drive in the final leg of the race. The finish line is not that far away."

Michiharu: "Got it."

Hiroyuki: "That's because your aggressive pace can help us attain a faster speed. Let's go."

Now Hiroyuki trusts me. That's good, hearing it from an experienced racer.

Michiharu: "London... I only hear that word from a children's song."

Hiroyuki: "Not anymore."

As usual, Hiroyuki gives directions. So the cars in United Kingdom drive similarly in Japan, on the left side or what others call "The Wrong Side of the Road".

United Kingdom... United Kingdom. That's where Ben lives, right? So that means the people speak with an accent just like him. Hehehehehehe...

I see buildings that look quite classy, or with history. They sure preserve these old buildings, huh? Now, where's the goal? Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

Hey, Hiroyuki. Are we there yet?

Hiroyuki: "Hmmmmm.... we're entering London. Get ready to what will happen next. We don't know if we're leading or not."

The finish line. Everyone is anxiously waiting as to who crosses the goal first. The audience have gathered at this very area as early as dawn.

13890493735_850b822f96_c.jpg

Right at the finish line, Tomoko, Ben, and Gan are waiting. Even Alessandro is with them. Crowds are talking, knowing the appearance of Ben after a long time of exodus.

Ben: "I knew it. People are talking."

Tomoko: "Well, what do you expect?"

Gan: "Plus the feud with your father, people will really open their mouths."

Ben: "Where are those twits? I want to get out of this malevolent town!"

Gan: "The most important thing is, that they crossed the line in one piece."

Tomoko: "I hope they're the first ones to arrive... Please make it."

Wow... so many people. And the streets are closed, so as to guide us where the goal is.

Hiroyuki: "Show those watchful eyes, how capable you are! Push it! Push it!"

13890547523_9256ba2068_c.jpg

Yeah, time to turn up the heat! Let's go! I stepped hard on the accelerator, with pride. I can hear the Carburetor engine roar, as if following its master's command. For some unknown reason, I love the sound that carburetor engines make.

I took on the next corner with speed, making the car come close enough to get in touch with the audience.

13890482795_c093b104a5_c.jpg

13890480535_bc887caf9b_c.jpg

Wow... are those people cheering? I don't think we're fan favorites, either. But more importantly...

...are we in the lead?

Tomoko: "I hear a loud exhaust sound."

Then people start to gather as close as the finish line, eager to see who will be the first to arrive.

13890478255_25386c1707_c.jpg

Is that the finish line? I see a lot of people gathering around.

13890880764_ddae794b63_c.jpg

Gan: "It's the Alfa! It's them! They are first!"

13890472615_9b7f8ee621_c.jpg

And we finally crossed the goal. Confetti is falling down. We won?

Tomoko: "They did it! I knew it all along!"

Ben: "I'm sure those two kissed and made up."

I cannot believe it. We actually won! Another major victory for me. Though this time, the world is a witness. Both of us stepped on the podium. Hiroyuki then gave me the gold trophy. It's bigger than the one I got from Tsukuba. The celebration is lively.

See, Hiroyuki? You'll never achieve this much when you're all alone! We won simply because we worked together! We relied on each others' strengths.

When we stepped down, Tomoko suddenly hugged me!

Tomoko: "You did it! I'm so happy for you! I know you can!"

My heart is beating fast again. What's this feeling I get? I always get it whenever I'm with her...

Alessandro: "Belissimo! I'd never thought my tuned car will make it."

Ben: "Good work, chaps. Now let's get out of this chaos."

I looked around, then suddenly Hiroyuki left. Oh there he is!

Michiharu: "Hiroyuki!"

My call made him stop in his tracks. He looked at me, smiling. Why walk out? Time for a celebration!

Michiharu: "Join us! You deserve a celebration too!"

Gan: "I can give you a spot in my team. You'll never progress if you're alone."

Hiroyuki: "Please allow me to contemplate on your offer. I'm going home first.

If Michiharu beats me in our upcoming duel, then I'll join you."

Of course, who would forget? In response, I gave him a thumbs up as I show a confident grin on my face.

Michiharu: "Then I'll be waiting. You already belong to us, then."

Hiroyuki: "Don't be too confident, GT-R boy. You still have a long way to go."

He does have a point. Don't worry, I won't make it too easy! Next time you'll see me, I'm as fast as everyone in the world!

It may look different, but it still is Brandon Hatch's Lotus Europa, with significant modifications.

13890470815_a5c7406b38_c.jpg

13890528273_c384a13734_c.jpg

A interesting feature is found in that Lotus.

13890525893_2250619aff_c.jpg

A rear wing, an aerodynamic device usually found in racing cars, now slowly making its way on road cars as well. It allows better stability, which a lightweight car like the Europa needs.

13890867504_5a13513f17_c.jpg

Brandon: "The modifications are simply staggering. The car is more stable than before, despite an extra 20 horsepower increase."

13890459945_de49ac24e8_c.jpg

Brandon: "Instructor Ben will be pleasantly surprised. I'm close to become the One Being that he is seeking!"

End of Page 14

Author's Notes:

- That Lotus Europa Special? That's actually the 6th placer in my favorites list. Tuned to 220 HP, it's a fun car on Sports Hard tires, and can effortlessly beat those classic Supercars and it's also my weapon of choice in the British Lightweights race.

I even have a 1:43 scale model:

It's inspired by this:

That victory is sensational. To think people are cheering for you, not just one or a group, but plenty of them. So this is how victory feels. People finally recognize your abilities, and efforts.

Yeah... finally, people are praising me, not berating me. I may have to get used to it, as this is probably one of the scenarios that a racer faces.

And as for Hiroyuki, I'm happy for him. I'm not expecting a sudden change, but we shall all take things slowly.

I'm waiting for him... and truly accept him as a friend. I learned things from him too.

Tomoko: "Hey! Hello?"

Oh when can I have that moment again? When? I want to experience it, for another time.

Tomoko: "Ben, Michiharu is daydreaming again."

Ben: "There's a hot kettle from the kitchen. Hurl it at him."

Michiharu: "Wait... what? You're calling me? The Alps always give a nice view."

Tomoko: "You've been like that since we left London yesterday.

Michiharu: "Sorry, I'm just savoring that moment of victory."

Tomoko: "I know how it feels. Someday, you'll be experiencing more of those moments. Come, let's get in the kitchen, as Ben has something important to say."

We entered the kitchen, then Ben gave me a cup of coffee. Gan is reading the newspaper, even though it's in Swiss.

Ben: "By 10 am, let's go to the car lot. I shall show you a car you'll like."

Michiharu: "Really? But how about my training?"

Ben: "That's part of it. And it would be your new training wheels. Not my Gordini lunch box."

Gan: "And if you are going to purchase it right now, money is ready."

Michiharu: "What? I haven't seen it before. Let me see it first, okay?"

What is this? Have they talked about something while I was away? Well, we all gotta see it, anyway.

We headed towards a car lot by 10 am sharp. It's nearby Ben's home. There's a nice selection of sports and classic cars. No hatchbacks, or common garden variety cars here. This place could be for affluent clientele who wish to spend big bucks.

And I'm not one of them!

Ben: "Here it is."

13905474544_5d77b96eae_c.jpg

Michiharu: "Another Lamborghini? Do the doors open upwards too?"

Ben: "No. They open just like in a normal car."

I go around the car. The interior looks nice. I see leather everywhere. I guess leather is a luxury item too.

13905472684_e1e17c0c2b_c.jpg

Then I moved back, and view the car's side. My goodness.... it's pretty. No, it's more than just that. I can't find the right word for it.

13905120313_65f21765b8_c.jpg

If I have the money, I might as well buy it. But this could be my training wheels, just as Ben mentioned.

Michiharu: "What's this car's name?"

Ben: "Miura."

Michiharu: "Miu-what?"

I went at the back, just to look for the car's name.

13905121383_7d48d57a9b_c.jpg

Oh there it is. Miura. Quite easy to pronounce, since Miura is also a Japanese surname.

With its striking looks and interior, it looks fast...

...and expensive. I may have received a large sum from my victory in Mille Miglia, but I deem it to be inadequate. To be honest, I want to buy it, but I don't think I have the cash.

Car Lot Owner:
"Oh, I almost forgot. The previous owner installed an ANSA Race Exhaust system. He said that he wanted the Miura to sound close to the legendary Jota.

Ben: "I see. Michiharu, you want it?"

Michiharu: "It's beautiful, all right. But I don't have the right cash."

Car Lot Owner: "This Miura now costs 30,000 Swiss Francs. It's expensive, I know. But other examples are a lot more expensive. Consider it a bargain."

Ben: "I'll split the payment. I'll pay the half."

What? He'll pay for the half?

Michiharu: "But, you're not going to drive it, aren't you?"

Ben: "Both of us will drive it. This car is the sign of our friendship. I owe you a lot, that's why I'll pay half of it. What do you say?"

Michiharu: "Why is this my training wheels, huh?"

Ben: "It's the closest thing to a racing car. Plus, you'll be driving something close to this in the future. You have to get familiar with the characteristics.

And... you're the only person I'm happy to have a drive with. We have a good blood."

All right, all right. If that will make me a better driver and improve on my progress as a racer, then why not? Besides, this car might present an opportunity on learning something new.

Michiharu: "Let's buy it."

Ben shows a smile, something I never saw before. He arranged for the transaction, and took part of my winnings and part of my salary.

Better be worth it. But I think Ben is up to something...

With the transaction done, Ben threw the car's key at me. I caught it with my right hand. I entered the car, which I find quite easier than getting in the Countach. The driving position is simpler too, with my body straight, not twisted like in the Countach.

I started the engine. And oh boy... it sounds lovely. I revved it once.

Tomoko: "That's so loud!"

Ben: "Lovely music from the 4 liter V12. Now that's close to the Jota."

**************************************************************************************

We headed straight to a race circuit. We're going to push it to its limits already?

Ben: "Now hit it. Let's see if you haven't forgotten what I've taught you."

Here it comes...

Whoa! What is this!? The sense of fear returned again, and the speed is more fearsome than Gan's Ferrari, and even than Ben's Countach!

And the car easily snaps out of control...

13905119173_525a3d02cb_c.jpg

I managed to keep it in control...

13905060365_1788ba798f_c.jpg

But there it goes again!

13905465994_7c98ca812d_c.jpg

Michiharu:
"What is this!? It's wild!"

All Ben did was just smile. He finds it good?!? I'm already struggling!

13905114693_db7a2f54b8_c.jpg

And then at the straight. The speed is just... it's like I'm going to another dimension!

13905113293_9ba0322eb7_c.jpg

Tomoko:
"That's insanely fast!"

Gan: "I bet, Michiharu will have a hard time. I have a friend back home who owns a Miura, and...

Tomoko: "...and?"

Gan: "Heh, it's a rodeo on four wheels. That's how he said it exactly. And from various comparison tests, the Miura can out-accelerate any Countach, despite the latter having more power."

13905461254_ab851afc37_c.jpg

First corner, half throttle, dive it in the apex... and what the!? It's sliding again!

Ben: "Hehehehehehe..."

What are you snickering about? I knew it...

13905110013_6e13a1063c_c.jpg

Ben:
"Why are we stalling here? Turn around! I'm curious as to how you would handle this car. I've got all day."

He clearly knows something that I don't... Dammit.

13905458704_376ec84160_c.jpg

I have to train harder if I will drive something like this in the future! Do racing cars have this trait?

Then at the next, it's composed on this long corner. I managed to dive it inside, but...

13905050075_dfa4d1fa26_c.jpg

...here it goes again.

13905105083_efc0facae0_c.jpg

Ben:
"Good work maintaining it. Keep going."

Good work!? I'm sweating here!

And at the hairpin, that was the final straw.

13905046995_4860fdd10a_c.jpg

Ben: "Let's take a break. You might have a nice shower with your sweat."

Michiharu: "This is very hard to control. No matter what I do..."

Ben: "Spare me your rambling. Let's take a break."

Meanwhile, Brandon has arrived. He attempts to once again tear up the track. Then he sees Ben and Michiharu talking to Gan. He approaches the team...

13905044615_86f64b3866_c.jpg

Brandon: "Instructor Ben!"

Ben: "What a pleasant surprise. What brings you here?"

Brandon: "Well, to show you my pleasant surprise. Check out my Lotus!"

Ben tags along with that young British man. Out of curiosity, I followed them.

Ben: "You repainted it and installed a rear wing? Quite tasty."

It's a small black car, with a weird thing at the back. That's called a Rear Wing, huh? What does it do?

Brandon: "I have deduced that my Lotus needs a rear wing. And, these makes come one step closer to my goal. To be the One Being you're looking for."

Ben: "We'll talk about it later on. I have something important to say about it. Right now, you've come at a perfect time. You have a task."

Brandon: "What is it, sir?"

Ben: "Set a lap time around the track with that Lotus. Then Michiharu here will have to beat it. I am curious about something."

There you go again, Ben. I can tell that you are hiding something. As if you have a purpose for the purchase of the Miura. It's not just a car that symbolizes our bond.

But there's something deeper in it.

Is Ben serious??? And also, I have yet to get familiar with the Miura!!! I'm definitely going to lose!

But... I think there is a purpose why we have to buy the Miura, and organize this little time trial. Ben is definitely up to something here.

And that black car, it looks small. However, looks can be deceiving. There is a reason why the owner brought it in this track. I'm sure it's a really fast car, and Ben won't just send in a clown if he intends it to be a challenge.

Ben: "So Michiharu, ready for it?"

Michiharu: "I'm not sure..."

Ben: "Oh this is Brandon Hatch, by the way. My protege. Brandon, this is Michiharu, my team mate."

Brandon: "Good day. So you're the one that won the Mille Miglia. I'm quite fascinated with the up and rising
race car drivers from the East, as I have heard that such intense action is happening there."

Really? Hmmmmm.... I gotta call my Uncle and Aunt if I have the time. I miss them so much. I wonder how they're doing in my absence.

Michiharu: "Nice to meet you."

Brandon: "Oh, you speak English. Very well, I guess we can be good friends. But for now, I'm not going to make it easy for you. You sure own a staggering car indeed, a Lamborghini Miura.

My Lotus here, however, can slay supercars!"

After that brief introduction, Brandon gets in the car and heads in the track. Then after a warm up lap, the time trial starts, with Tomoko holding the stop watch.

13925327012_14d365f4f5_c.jpg

Tomoko: "A Europa Special, eh?"

Michiharu: "Lotus Europa Special? And it looks fast on the fly..."

Gan: "It's the closest thing to a racing car, you know? It weighs just 650 kilograms! Or you could say it's a formula one car for the road.

Having a light car does have a lot of merits after all. The red Alfa I drove is lightweight as well.

13948431435_8709a32482_c.jpg

Ben: "Colin Chapman is such a genius. He sticks to his philosophy of "Simplify, then add lightness". That philosophy changed the entire course of the racing world."

13948481233_f5bc347161_c.jpg

Ben: "I'm proud of Brandon, to think he's called "The Werewolf" in the racing community. He is persistent behind his opponents, pressuring them like a wolf chasing its prey until the victim is tired. And that Lotus is a bona fide supercar killer."

13925313141_eda3bda7e1_c.jpg

13948478193_4c734bd175_c.jpg

Ben: "There it is, I'm hearing it coming."

It crosses the line in an amazing speed. That small nut can go that fast?

Tomoko: "1 minute and 32 seconds. You're next, Michiharu."

Great, it's my turn. I'm prepared to be humiliated, though.

13948424505_aa2ec566cd_c.jpg

While doing the warm up lap, I was quite slow. I'm reluctant at doing this... sigh.

13948891694_cc8f8c812e_c.jpg

I accelerate at the main straight. That immense speed once again... it's more fearsome compared to Gan's Ferrari! It's on a truly different level.

13948472683_4295229ce5_c.jpg

Tomoko: "Is this a good idea for Michiharu? What are you trying to pull, Ben?"

Ben: "Knowing how Michiharu performs behind the wheel, he lacks something very important for a racer."

260 km/h already?!? Shoot! I'm too fast at the first corner!

13925305211_378485644b_c.jpg

Dammit... how to control this machine?!? I'm doing everything I can! I'm even applying what I've learned from Ben!"

13925311622_7986893025_c.jpg

Then oddly enough, it decided to cooperate...

13948871064_5f4e2beeb9_c.jpg

At the hairpin. Okay, steady... steady... careful on the accelerator. Steer gently.

Dammit! I lost it again!

13948869314_8d9e796170_c.jpg

This car is slowly making me lose my mind! But seriously, Michiharu, is this the best you can do?

13925306002_396c737a13_c.jpg

I carried on. I have to be in one piece... This is so pathetic!

13948409205_722768e6ba_c.jpg

I've crossed the finish line. I don't even want to hear my lap time...

13948862584_f1fa0bae16_c.jpg

Tomoko: "That took a while. 1 minute and 51 seconds?!?"

Ben: "I've proven my point right here."

Tomoko: "I'm feeling bad for Michiharu right now."

Gan: "This isn't just a play thing. Michiharu will learn something from this experience."

I returned to the pit lane, exhausted. The Miura isn't really the most fun to drive. It scares the driver.

Ben: "Let's all go home. We'll talk some other time, Brandon."

We arrived home. Ben asked me to park the Miura just beside his Countach. And Ben's big black bull at the ranch nearby is staring at me. Ben is gathering stalks of grass for that bull to eat. Just how does he take care of something that big?

Ben: "Here's some lunch, Countach... Oh, you have another brethren here. That is the Miura. See?"

I'm standing right in front of the Miura. Sigh... what should I do? How am I supposed to control a beast like this car?

Ben pats my back.

Ben: "What's wrong, buddy? Aren't you happy that you own one of the most beautiful cars in the world?"

Michiharu: "No matter what I do, I can't control it. It's like the car is being possessed by something."

Ben: "The way I saw you drive, you have gotten the basics right. But you lack something very important. And all I have thought you will learn it today."

Michiharu: "Since we're best buddies, please tell it to me! I'm eager to learn!"

Ben turns his back at me, and smokes a cigarette.

Ben: "You know how a racing team works? How will that team supposed to win if they don't know what to do with the car?

I admire your determination and your desire to win. But there's more to racing than just those qualities. Didn't you even feel the car? Didn't you even notice how it moves?

Skill matters a lot in racing, that is true. However, you must have knowledge too when it comes to car dynamics and mechanics!"

Suddenly, the bull mooed...

"Moooooooooo!!!"

Ben: "You must have an idea how the car moves! If it's hard to control, despite how much you try to cover it up with your skill, then it's time for you to give a feedback to the team, and let them know how you want the car to perform! It's called Tuning... yes, tuning. It's one way of improving the car. Now that you've realized this, it's time for the next step, which is the tuning itself.

I owe you a lot, so leave this to me. I know the right person who can make this Miura a lot better to drive. I hope you remember what I've said. Because this is very important for a race car driver."

Come to think of it, Hiroyuki did say something like that too, that determination alone can't make me win. I'm blind to this fact after all. I need to learn more about cars! This is what I sorely lack!

**************************************************************************************

Time: 9 pm

Ben is at his room, alone. After finishing his cup of coffee, he reaches for the telephone and dials a number. Someone at the other line had answered, and it's one of Ben's acquaintances.

Ben: "It's been a while, Bob Wallace."

Bob: "The legendary Ben McCarthy, huh? And since when did you return here in Europe?"

Ben: "Quite some time. I called you because I need you to do a favor for me."

Bob: "What favor? And why choose me?"

Ben: "Because you're the only person who can do this job. How's Signore Ferruccio Lamborghini doing?"

Bob: "I've heard nothing much from him after his retirement. He does make occasional visits to the Lamborghini factory. I, on the other hand, just enjoy my work."

Ben: "You'll be enjoying it again. I'm going to see you tomorrow, there in Italy, with my Lamborghini Miura."

Bob: "Miura??? Heh, what happened to your LP400?"

Ben: "My Countach is just fine. You will just work on another Miura."

Bob: "You clearly know what have happened to my precious Jota project."

Ben: "That's because some idiot ruined it, trying to show it off to his girlfriend. You shouldn't have sold it in the first place."

Bob: "Hey hey, Lamborghini is in dire need of funds, and we have to no choice but to sell it."

Ben: "And you didn't even bother to check that buyer's background."

Bob: "I've gotten over my Jota project. The Jota was clearly a coffin on four wheels."

Ben: "Relax. I'll be the one driving it, and my friend. We're not clowns behind the wheel, that's for sure."

Bob: "If you insist, then..."

End of Page 16

Author's Notes:

- Bob Wallace is the person responsible for this legendary creation:

The original Jota was totally destroyed. However, the one you saw in the video is the product of a dedicated British Lamborghini collector who sourced a used Miura from the USA and decided to revive the legend. It took him a decade, but the result is just mind-blowing!

Page 17 - Waiting

Yesterday, one big thing hit me really hard. Something that's vital in a race car driver. How am I supposed to move up without any knowledge on car dynamics?

I am just winning races, only relying on my skill and instinct (and a hint of luck...) without realizing what I lack. How about in the future? What if my winning streak suddenly ended? I have to move up! Competition is getting more difficult.

Okay, so first thing in the morning...

...go to that Miura, inspect it, and then get to feel on how it drives again. Hmmmmm... that'll be good.

So I immediately headed to the garage, and then tiptoeing past the sleeping black bull across the ranch.

I made it.... wait, where's the Miura??? The Countach is the only one in his garage! Ben has a habit of waking up early, I know... but where did he bring it?

Oh shoot, just in time when I needed it. Well, give Ben a chance, since it's his turn to drive.

Then Tomoko found me. She looks dazzling even without make up....

Tomoko: "Good morning! Looking for that Miura?"

Michiharu: "Ummmm... yes. Yes."

Tomoko: "Ben woke up at around 4 am and then left. He'd even have to disturb me just to relay his message. He said that he'll take the Miura to Sant'agata Bolognese in Italy, where the Lamborghini factory is."

Ummmm... what place? Italy again, huh? It must be far, then.

Michiharu: "You know, I learned a lot yesterday."

Tomoko: "That's good to know, especially that you're a racing car driver. You have to feel the car, and then if it's not satisfactory, then let the mechanics do their job of improving it. It's part of the success as a team. Don't take the burden all by yourself."

Michiharu: "That's true. I want to drive that Miura again today. But I guess it'll be better once it returns."

Tomoko: "You can expect that. That's Ben. He is the last word when it comes to Lamborghinis. Come, let's have some breakfast first."

We returned inside and joined Gan for breakfast. He's once again reading that Swiss newspaper.

Gan: "Good morning! So, what are your plans for today?"

Michiharu: "I'm about to return to that track with the Miura, but..."

Gan: "I see. But let's trust Ben's decision, okay? He promised to me that it'll be better. And you should be practicing using that car. After all, you'll be driving something close to it."

Tomoko: "Oh that's right! I almost forgot to show you something..."

Michiharu: "What is it?"

Gan: "You see, we shall be fulfilling my dream... to join the World Sports Car Championship! That's the very reason why I assembled this team. And that car in question is the most significant investment of all. The Miura will help you be familiar with that car in question."

Enough of the suspense already. What car is it???

Tomoko: "Come..."

While I am holding my cup of coffee, she leads me to a small shack across the street. It's also a part of Ben's property. Well, what to do when you have a lot of money...

As we entered, she takes off the cloth covering the mystery car. What it unveiled is a very beautiful red masterpiece...

13970689043_85c6297d44_c.jpg

Michiharu: "Beautiful..."

Tomoko: "It must be parked beside the Miura. But you know Ben's hatred on Ferraris. This is a Ferrari 330 P4. Only 4 were made, so consider ourselves lucky that we have one.

460 horsepower, weighing around 800 kilograms. It was clocked at 320 kilometers per hour in the Mulsanne Straight. This is a perfect weapon."

320 kilometers per hour??? It's a rocket!

She gave me the keys and I entered in. That's odd, the gear lever is also on my right, just beside my right leg. I thought the gear lever is on the left for right-hand drive cars.

Tomoko: "Careful not to kick that gear lever when you get in. There is a purpose why it's located on your right. You see, the Le Mans circuit in France is composed mostly of right-hand corners, hence there must be something that will hold down the right side of the car once it turns right. In that way, there will be more grip for the right tires. You, the location of the steering wheel, and that gear lever will help in balancing the car while turning right."

Oh yeah... the car tilts to the left when it turns right. Good... I'm learning That's a good start.

Tomoko: "Start it up!"

Michiharu: "Sorry, I just can't. Not yet..."

Tomoko: "Why not?"

Michiharu: "I'll do it... when I'm finally skilled enough to race this car. I can only look at it now. I want to, but I don't deserve to drive this car yet. I have to go through the Miura first, before landing on this one."

Tomoko: "I see. You have a point there.

But make it quick... because that car is waiting for you... and only you. Even Ben had once told us, that he sees a lot of potential in you, and that his job is to unleash it. He owes you a lot, to think you're the only person that understood him. You're the only one that made him soft."

Now this is awkward... kinda. First was Hiroyuki, and now Ben... Really? What's in me that made them go "soft"?

Ben has arrived in the Lamborghini factory. Since owning a collection of Lamborghinis, he has made a strong connection to the brand, hence allowing him to enter the premises without much effort. With the Miura about to be modified by Bob Wallace, Ben is in a casual mood, greeting the workers.

He enters in Bob's office and sits right in front of the desk. Bob fixes his tie and business starts.

Ben: "Good morning, I trust that all my 5 hours of trip will all be worth it."

Bob: "5 hours? Have you gotten slower? That's not like you at all."

Ben: "Silly, I have to follow rules. I have to stop for breakfast too."

Bob: "I'm ready to work on your Miura, but is your heart on it?"

Ben: "Of course. Just make it better. I love all your crazy creations, the Jota, Urraco Rally, and Jarama Bob Special. Don't disappoint my friend too, okay? He's an upcoming racer...

...that will soon surpass me. Or even, he's the One I'm looking for. Maybe my One Being theory will come to light soon."

Time: 11 am

Not too far away from Ben's chalet, Sir Shaw is inspecting his Ferrari Daytona in the parking lot of a luxury hotel. His butler is wiping the bright blue GT40.

Sir Shaw: "I shall be taking my leave. I'll go around and have a warm up with this Ferrari. The roads are quite nice, which is the reason why my son bought a property here."

Butler: "Take care, sir."

The red Daytona blasts around the mountain roads of Switzerland.

13947540622_485e206f59_c.jpg

Since it is tuned for track days, cornering is not an issue. The 50:50 weight distribution thanks to its transaxle layout provides a balanced handling.

Sir Shaw: "No wonder you have settled here. It's quite nice."

13947541371_f65ba95896_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "Oh why... oh why. Why has the world taken my son away from me? What have I done wrong?"

13947537821_ba454cc331_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "I'm doing what a typical parent does to his children. I'm giving them the best that I know. Sander is such a rascal, but he didn't really take the path of a racer and instead pursue a different venture.

But Ben... I see myself in him."

13970696713_8baacb20d2_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "I don't want to be alone... Sander left me a year before Ben's exodus. What's wrong with me? My children have grown up after all.

But is it really a good idea to mold Ben in my image? How about my legacy? What will become of it?

For one last time, I'll take him back. Just one last time!"

Location: Monza Circuit, Italy
Time: 10 am, the next day

Ben has spent an overnight in a hotel nearby the Lamborghini factory, after an extensive work on the Miura. He was hands-on in the modifications during the night, with Bob Wallace helping him. Normally, it wouldn't be allowed unless there are special reasons, but because of Ben's strong connections to Lamborghini, it was all flawless and all went according to plan.

Then he left early from that hotel and meet up with Bob at the Monza Circuit.

Ben: "So, I'm ready to test your creation."

Bob: "I'm not responsible should things go awry. That Miura is close to being a Jota."

Ben: "Spare me from that. It's always my fault why I crash. Simple as that. Don't you worry, I'll show you why people had wished for a Jota when they heard of that legend."

Ben gets in the car, and speeds away without further word. The loud ANSA race exhaust system echoes all throughout the vicinity.

13968073275_ef6c6fa3bb_c.jpg

The Miura exits the final corner without stability issues.

Ben: "The previous owner installed the ANSA race exhaust system, which hikes power up to 400 horsepower. That's good, and I wonder what top speed shall it reach at the end of the straight."

13944973146_e3483713b4_c.jpg

While Miuras are notorious for lifting off at high speed, this one is among the few exceptions. The new suspension helps stick the car on the tarmac.

The car reached 300 km/h just as Ben stomps on the brake pedal. Ben shows a grin...

13968071005_47e7a73037_c.jpg

Ben: "300 kilometers per hour in this main straight, something that race cars can only accomplish. This car shall fulfill the purpose."

13944970426_21dd15ac25_c.jpg

Ben: "It's stable on this high speed first corner. Michiharu should not be complaining after this..."

13964890021_8e754c4f86_c.jpg

Ben: "Perhaps, this will make Michiharu the One Being I'm searching for. My theory is close to completion."

Ben quickly performs the heel-and-toe, and feathers the throttle.

13964893252_2923c26861_c.jpg

Ben: "Perfect. Everything is going according to the plan..."

Location: Ben's Chalet, Switzerland
Time: 4 pm

Ben is gone for 2 days. Hmmmm... maybe he decided to sleep in Italy, since it's far.

Why am I feeling anxious? Or there is a sense of excitement! I'm eager to drive the Miura again, after finding out what I lack.

Then that red Ferrari racing car, it's truly a beauty. Plus, I don't think I deserve driving it just yet. I have to toughen up! Where's that balding British chain smoker???

Then suddenly, I hear an idling exhaust note from downstairs. Is it him?

The three of us head downstairs. And finally, Ben has arrived home. Hmmmmm... nothing is changed significantly from the Miura when it comes to looks. A small change I can notice though, is that the car is lower in height.

13964887011_fd60b2a425_c.jpg

Michiharu: "Ummmm..."

Ben: "Happy now? I hope so, because my 2 day trip should be all worth it."

Michiharu: "The car is somehow lower, why is that so?"

Ben: "It's because it has a new suspension. The lower the car is, the better it is to handle. Get it? Now that's where to start learning."

Then he heads immediately upstairs. Is that it? So he intends me to learn on my own, huh?

**************************************************************************************

Location: A hotel in Switzerland
Time: 4 pm

In a posh hotel suite, Sir Shaw is watching a drama. Then the butler serves Sir Shaw's favorite tea.

Sir Shaw: "Oh that scene... similar to Ben's exodus, I must say."

Butler: "Don't you mind if I change the channel for you, sir?"

Sir Shaw: "It's all right. Pain makes one stronger, they say."

Butler: "Oh sir, I just found out. There is a race track just nearby where Sir Ben lives. And according to sources here, he frequents that place with his team too."

Sir Shaw: "Interesting. Something more useful to hear from you today."

Butler: "Would you pay a visit there, sir?"

Sir Shaw: "Tomorrow could only be my chance. I'll head there..."

**************************************************************************************

The next day, I'm very eager to drive the Miura. What are the changes performed? I gotta find out by myself, since Ben is about to leave for an important matter.

Ben: "Enjoy the Miura. Use this day to learn something. I have to meet a client, on real estate matters. Ciao!"

Tomoko: "Wait! Awwwww.... oh well, I guess we'll find out on our own."

Michiharu: "It's okay. Let's go, everyone!"

Gan: "Wow! You're that excited?"

Michiharu: "Yes. I want to feel the changes brought about by Ben."

In a short while, we arrived at the track. As usual, we're the only ones. Hmmmm... how does the owner manages to operate the track, considering that we're the only persons using it? Perhaps there could be others that we don't see...

Before we left, I noticed something on the Miura when I sat in it. The ride is harder, and I have felt bumps when I passed an uneven road.

Nevertheless, time to set off!

Meanwhile, Sir Shaw and his butler are present at the track too, at the last pit garage. Sir Shaw puts his helmet on, and sets off with his Ferrari, upon seeing the Miura pass by.

Sir Shaw: "Seems that I'm not alone."

Huh, I'm not alone, eh? What's that red car following me?

13968501374_f2fafed613_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "A Lamborghini Miura, eh? The Daytona's rival! Since we're on a track, care to race? It's quite a rare opportunity to see a running Miura."

13968500234_0b5a509d69_c.jpg

Hmmmm... that red car behind me started to pace up. Maybe it's a challenger. I can't afford to slack off here. I will speed up too. Now time to feel what's changed!

As I turned the wheel.... something happened. The car didn't lose control! It's more stable! Maybe lower ride height has something to do with this!

13968506514_c04977bb53_c.jpg

I can control the car a lot better! Maybe I can outrun that red car behind me. Let's see...

Page 19 - Trail of Speed

Ben just returned from his short trip in Italy, where he tweaked the Miura from the Lamborghini factory. He didn't say much as to what were the things changed in this car. I'm on my own in finding out! Learning is a never-ending process in life, after all.

When I turned the wheel, it responds greatly, but I can fully control the car! It's like I'm driving Uncle's GT-R once again. I'm in sync!

But... who's driving the car behind me? And the car is actually egging me to race. I'm not the type who backs down from a challenge. If it's a fight you want, then you shall have it! Come on!

13981590314_f11ab20512_c.jpg

I'm still a bit doubtful though. Gotta be careful, or else I'll spin out once again. You never know with fast cars like this Miura.

13977954472_593364780e_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "Hesitant, eh? I know. A Miura can be an untamed beast. Better overtake it after this corner."

My opponent is increasing its pace, and so do I!

13958055276_3b5437ff7d_c.jpg

High speed stability is improved a lot! I was struggling to keep it in check at this very corner back then.

Sir Shaw: "Oh, fighting back, huh? You want to battle me. You have any idea on who I am?"

At the short straight, it seems that we're even. However, when I stomped on the brake pedal, the car stops more violently! Has he changed the brakes too? Then that means I can brake later when approaching the turns!

Okay then, the moment of truth. The hairpin which can easily spin out this car.

14001151883_8279b9f117_c.jpg

Unreal... I was even applying half-throttle, and the car remains composed! The changes are really amazing! Is this very close to a racing car now?

13981162805_5f2fdac4ee_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "Preposterous! How can a Miura corner very fast???"

With more confidence in cornering the Miura, I have set a larger gap away from my opponent.

13977965911_d32ef81c61_c.jpg

Tomoko: "That Miura can break the sound barrier. Hmmmmm... a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona is chasing after Michiharu. Oh well, the Ferrari driver must be sweating now."

260 km/h... Okay, then brake! Heel-and-toe! Flawless cornering! Hit the apex! Good!

13977965251_57a6998970_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "There's only one person I know who could drive Lamborghinis very fast..."

13958050716_d4be7ffa6a_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "Once again, that fast cornering that leaves a trail!"

What's wrong? Giving up already?

13958050076_63c98eb570_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "No doubt about it.... it's Ben! My son could only be that fast."

13977947902_608f7a05d0_c.jpg

Whew... that was a good use of my time. And I'm very very happy with the changes. Now, it's time for me to return to the pits and have some lecture from Tomoko.

I got out of the car, very happily.

Tomoko: "So, how is it?"

Michiharu: "It's improved a lot. Stability is a lot better than before, and braking is more... violent."

Tomoko: "That should be good. So, have you learned anything?"

Michiharu: "I still have no idea how a suspension works, but seeing the fact that the car is lowered, it improved its overall handling."

Tomoko: "That's a good start. Come, I'll teach you more."

Both of us crouched down before the Miura's left front tire, and Tomoko is pointing at the suspension parts.

Tomoko: "This coil over here is what you call the Spring. It carries the weight of the car. Generally speaking, a harder spring can improve car performance, but setting it too much can make the car actually harder to control. A light car like this Miura here must have an overall soft spring setup, and heavy cars usually have harder springs to compensate for the additional weight. Though what Ben did here is to make the front spring stiffer than the rear that makes the car easier to control."

So many terms to understand.... but I'll learn, eventually. Her intelligence matches her looks very well. I do need that knowledge, especially if I'm going to give feedback to the team's mechanics.

While Tomoko resumes her lecture, the red car suddenly arrives. Getting out is an old man, looking probably as old as my father, and he's approaching us.

Sir Shaw: "Excuse me? Can I have a word with you?"

Tomoko: "Oh, good afternoon, sir."

Michiharu: "Good afternoon... sir."

Sir Shaw: "That's what I truly like about the Japanese. They put respect above everything else."

That old man seems nice...

Sir Shaw: "Which one of you is the Miura's driver?"

Michiharu: "I am."

Sir Shaw: "All along I was thinking that it's my son, Ben, doing the driving. I must say, you have exceptional ability. And that Miura is pretty spot-on."

Tomoko: "Ben? You mean you are Ben McCarthy's father?"

Sir Shaw: "Of course, my dear. I am looking for him. I assume you are his teammates."

So now I'm standing in front of the person that Ben ran away from. At least he looks a lot more pleasing than my father.

Sir Shaw: "Don't you mind doing a little favor for me?"

Tomoko: "Not at all, sir. What is it?"

Sir Shaw: "It's just a message that you should relay to my son.

Both of us will race. Tell him that we should settle this spat once and for all. I'll be here next week, ready to teach him a lesson.

That is all."

Knowing his past with his father, Ben must settle the matter through that race. At least both of them will do it in a more noble manner. If that was me and my father, he'd end up with blood and bruises.

Don't worry, old man. We'll relay the message to him.

End of Page 19

Page 20 - "Shaw-ing Off"

We finally met Ben's father, the very person that he ran away from. It is rather simple on how he wants to settle things, the very thing they know best - RACING.

But I have a feeling that it won't be that simple. An intense race is in order.

As for me, though, I'm very happy with the changes implemented in the Miura. The car handles a lot better, hence I am in sync once again. At the very least, I have an idea on how a racing car performs.

We returned home to tell Gan what happened, as Ben still hasn't arrived.

Gan: "So the veteran racer Sir Shaw finally decided to settle things."

Tomoko: "But do you think Ben will be eager to see his father again?"

Michiharu: "I think he does..."

Tomoko: "Why?"

Michiharu: "He's not the type of person scared of something he ran away from. He will face his father, and he has to."

Tomoko: "You're right... you can't run away forever. You have to face it, one day."

Gan: "Anyway, that Sir Shaw is none of our concern, since we're allowed to race anyway. I even have received a mail all the way from America. Seeing your victory from the Mille Miglia, an organizer invited to a series of races in the USA. He even offered to help source the car we'll use."

America, huh? Time to let go of the prejudices, if that's for the sake of improving myself as a racer.

Tomoko: "That's good news. So when will that be?"

Gan: "After the World Sports Car Championship."

Tomoko: "Back on the previous subject, though... is Ben's Countach prepped for the duel?"

Gan: "Seems to be. I have seen it running even when we were in Tokyo, and it's spaceship fast. Ben must have fiddled with it in anticipation.

He even told me that it can easily beat the latest Countach model with the spoiler and fenders, the LP500S. Mind you, that car has a larger engine with more power."

And then we hear a car approaching. It's Ben...

Ben: "Oh, you had lunch?"

Gan: "Not yet. We're about to cook here, though."

Ben: "Thanks for waiting. I'll help you with the cooking."

Tomoko: "Ben... there's something you should know."

Ben: "What is it?"

Gan: "You see, Ben..."

*****************************************************************************

Location: Hotel
Time: 2 pm

Sir Shaw is looking at his GT40 parked outside. Clenching his fist with determination, he is ready to fight. It seems that he doesn't care if he's racing with his son, as he does not pull his punches.

14011046201_3d4886572c_c.jpg

Sir Shaw:
"I don't want to do this, Ben... but I'm a father, and a discipline is in order. This shouldn't have happened, and I don't even want this. We could have just talked..."

14011036712_b93fdee862_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "But instead, you chose to run away. Running away won't do good. We are bound to face each other, and fate will find a way how."

*****************************************************************************

Back at Ben's Chalet...

13991113906_63f3964ecc_c.jpg

Ben: "This is it. We've been through tough times, Lamborghini... You also know my secrets, desires, and goals.

For another time, let us thrash that scum, and fly to freedom."

"Moooooooooooo!!!"

Ben looks at his pet fighting bull, Countach, and smiles at it.

Ben: "After this, I'll be happier. We'll be spending more time with each other more often.

And then, I'll have a clear mind for my goals."

*****************************************************************************

We have spent an entire week preparing ourselves for the upcoming races. Well, Ben is preparing himself for the race later, while the rest of us are talking about the racing regulations, the circuits, and the possible opponents.

Then we headed back to the race track nearby. Ben is very ready, and it seems that his mind is cleared, and that he'll be focused.

I hear a loud exhaust note arriving. And it's a bright blue supercar, with orange wheels!

Tomoko: "Oh no..."

Gan: "Ben will surely have a tough run."

Michiharu: "What's that car?"

Tomoko: "It's the legendary Ford GT40!

Ben: "I have anticipated for it for far too long. I have modified my Countach to match that, since I'm bound to race him, anyway."

Michiharu: "GT40?"

Tomoko: "It's a racing car. But the one you see is a limited production model, and getting one of those now can even cost as much as a house."

Gan: "And it's a money well-spent. That GT40 can beat anything that stands in its path. Not even a Ferrari. Well, its prime motivation was to beat Ferraris in racing, anyway."

Then that old man approached us.

Sir Shaw: "Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I thank you for relaying the message and making this race possible.

As a reward, you deserve to know something about my son, since I'm his father, anyway."

What is it?

Sir Shaw: "Do you even know what's Ben's real purpose for joining your team? It's all for his little theory.

All three of you are his subjects. As he wants to see which one of you is "The One Being" he's talking about. He'll leave you if he can't find one. He is doing it for the sake of proving me wrong."

One Being? What is he talking about? Is this true? Ben is friendly, and he won't do such a thing! We're even... best buddies. He taught me everything... he's the reason why I made it this far!

Sir Shaw: "Now my beloved son, will you defend yourself? This is the truth. I do hope that it won't discourage you today. I want you in full spirits."

Tomoko: "Ben..."

Ben: "We'll talk later..."

Then Ben points at his father. Now that's the spirit! Don't let him bring you down!

Ben: "...after I beat this scum once and for all!"

The two cars lined up at the starting line. Oddly enough, the GT40 is some meters behind.

13991113066_6f1a7f7cea_c.jpg

Gan: "For now, let's support Ben. I'm sure he will manage to come out clean."

Michiharu: "Yeah..."

Just focus on winning the race, Ben. We're still counting on you. We'll never leave you behind!

The brand-new red Skyline once again tears up the highway. It has been a regular occurrence, as if the highway is a racing circuit.

14011031782_7154a8df78_c.jpg

The car stops by at a bar...

14014231255_498bf08046_c.jpg

Driving the car after all is none other than...

...Koichi. He meets up with a friend named Hasemi inside the bar, and the two have a drink.

Hasemi: "Koichi! What brings you here?"

Koichi: "Thought I can find you here. And you're the person who is updated in the street racing scene here."

Hasemi: "You're here for info?"

Koichi: "I'll show something. Come."

The two head outside, and Hasemi is shocked at the sight of the Skyline.

14011029442_8bd0c5d68f_c.jpg

Hasemi: "I thought you can't afford to buy a car right now! Yet you now own the most powerful production car in this country??? You won the lottery, or something?"

Koichi: "Silly, I'm not that poor! Besides, I'm not going to be the one bringing it to glory. Plus, it has gotten even more powerful. With simple modifications, this car now has 260 horsepower, 50 more than stock."

Hasemi: "You're just crazy. Not a lot of people can afford to modify their cars. And who's going to be driving it?"

Koichi: "My nephew... Michiharu Kanonji. Knowing his victory in Europe, he's surely way more skilled than I am right now. And this is my surprise to him, and he will love it even more. It's a lot more modern than my Hakosuka, so he should find this easy.

The tuning is not yet complete. There are still a few steps to go..."

I sense another duel coming up...

GT40 vs Countach?

And I wanted to do a Miura duel... :(
Oh well, I'll wait out until next time... (I can do the GT40 vs Countach duel though if it happens)

Great story so far!

Great story so far!

I appreciate your help, but the Countach vs. GT40 is already done months ago. All I need to do is to take photos from the replay.

Well, if you need me in another duel, here's the cars I own (please provide me with the specs I need):

Lamborghini Miura
Ferrari 250GTO (Not sure if you can use it anywhere in the story)
Ford GT40 Road Car
Ferrari 365GTB Daytona
Lamborghini Countach
Nissan Skyline 1970?
Lotus Europa Special
Pontiac Firebird
Toyota 2000GT
Ferrari 512BB

If any of these cars are needed, please let me know.

Thank you. Well, we still have Chapter 3 and 4 to go. Chapter 3 will be easy on the wallet, as it will have muscle cars.

Page 21 - Perfect Line

In exchange for doing Sir Shaw's little favor, we got to know the truth why Ben joined our team. If he's using that to his advantage, then he's playing dirty. No wonder Ben hates him so much.

He may look pleasing, but I realized he's also rotten to the core, similar to my father. Now I know why Ben told me that we have something in common.

We can talk later, Ben. Right now, prove to your father you're better off without him!

Tomoko: "The race will be 3 laps. I'm not sure if Ben's Countach will stand a chance."

Gan: "I agree. But we have yet to see Ben's true potential, and now we will see why he's a feared racer in this continent."

Suddenly, the two cars launched! We didn't even do the countdown... The Countach started slowly, though.

14048779844_2f6958cce1_c.jpg

Ben: "A sluggish start again. Damn that tall first gear!"

Sir Shaw: "What's wrong, my son? I have already started behind you! I didn't know even a Lamborghini could fall prey to the GT40."

14068347743_4a261a3220_c.jpg

Ben: "Heh... you already show your specialty, eh? Your idea of a "Perfect Line" in a racing that I should follow. Since when was the last time that I followed you whenever we have a practice run?"

Michiharu: "Just how fast is a GT40? You have been saying that it's built to beat Ferraris."

Gan: "It is. There was a deal that Ford shall buy Ferrari. However, the pride-filled Enzo Ferrari tore up the contract upon finding out that his company won't be allowed to compete in open-wheel races in the U.S.A. such as the Indianapolis 500 to avoid competition with Ferrari.

So Henry Ford II got angry, and decided to beat Ferrari once and for all. He sought help from various race car constructors such as Lola for the chassis, and Lotus for the suspension setup. Combine those with Ford's V8 engines, and it produced a much-desired 1-2-3 finish.

Years later, it had been equipped with larger engines in order to keep up with the competition.

Sir Shaw's GT40 is a Mk. I model, which is one of the most sought-after vehicles.

Even though it has aged, it still can upset the likes of Lamborghini and Ferrari supercars. The race car body provides sufficient aerodynamics, along with lighter weight.

This might be unfair, but let us see how Ben deals with it."

Back in the race...

Ben: "In some aspects, he is similar to Michiharu, trying to grab the apex. His concept of the "Perfect Line" could be flawless if you observe him from behind.

But of course....

...nothing is perfect."

14045134021_72bf02a65e_c.jpg

14045133641_0735093aaf_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "This is not like you, Ben! I thought the Countach is the fastest car the world can offer!"

14045128302_d399390380_c.jpg

Ben: "He's getting faster. The GT40 has an unfair advantage, with racing suspension and an aerodynamic body."

The two cars pass the main straight, with the GT40 leading by a huge margin. Don't give up, Ben... don't mind what he said!

14048777154_2b31511ab4_c.jpg

Ben: "You don't have the last laugh yet, Shaw! You think I'd give up? I'm not going to follow you and your stupid line! I'll be free, taking my own "line" in life!"

Taking advantage of the lightened body of the Countach, Ben brakes late approaching the first corner.

14048776674_e734a5e430_c.jpg

Sir Shaw: "What in the world... no one has managed to escape my GT40!

But it seems that you are getting serious now, Ben. That's the one I like to see! Come on, let's play!"

End of Page 21

Author's Notes:

- Apologies for the short entry. I want to split the race at least into 2 parts.

- We are now entering the latter part of Chapter 2. To start it off, Michiharu will meet another woman...
