Never seen a track guide, is there a good place to find them ( i know, "google is your friend").

Real life racing; Indy circuit only, but Scott's stuff is always good. https://driver61.com/circuit-guide/brands-hatch-indy/
and video

YouTube favourite; it is GT Sport, so may not cross over entirely, but will give you an idea of turn-in points, brake markers, etc.

Another YouTube favourite: again GTS, but there may be some lessons. Tidgney is often in the top splits on GT Sport races, so worth listening to him.

Caveat: I've not watched any of these, so they may not be great, but they are from people whose content I've found good in the past.

GTP_Hun's Track Guide for Brands Hatch Indy

Brabham Straight
- not a straight but okay ... I guess

Paddock Hill Bend - do this in quick succession:
1.brake,
2. pray
3. turn
4. close eyes (you're not seeing where you're going anyway)
5. turn more
6. swear something
7. open eyes
8. If all's well ... say thanks and press the throttle

Hailwood's Hill - you can do this in one of three ways:

a) brake before the crest and get punted by those behind
b) brake at the crest and see how fun that can be
c) brake after the crest and see if you find the shortcut from druids to pilgrims

Druids -
The porn corner. Out-In-Out with creativity, sometimes wide sometimes tight. If you're kinky try the double apex thing.

Graham Hill (and bend) -

First normal part of this track, where [Gandalf's voice] all you have to decide is what to do with the gear shifter given to you ... [/Gandalf's voice]. 3rd? 2nd? Who knows? In fact ... who cares?

Cooper Straight -

Like Brabham before, just another (not) straight ... this must be british humour or something ...

(trivia moment: did Brabham ever drive a Cooper? Did Cooper ever drive a Brabham?)

Surtees /McLaren "esses" -

Life is a rollercoaster I know, but you can always make it funnier and more exciting if, besides the natural off-camber elevation changes you have here (I mean... really? who paved this ****?), you go the extra berserky way of racing and really attack (as in, go fully over) those pesky rumble strips. Might end badly, but after an entire lap of (not) straights and truly pathological corners, you get your revenge and it feels good!

(trivia moment 2: did Surtees ever drive a McLaren? Did McLaren ever drive a Surtees?)

Clark Curve

Assuming you didn't accelerate too early and went wide into the sand trap;

also

Assuming you only accelerated later but anyway didn't get caught by the sudden dip that makes your car spin into the inside and try to enter the pits backwards ...

... you should be safe enough to proceed to the Brabham (not) Straight and once again relive the nightmare you just experienced.

Haha great stuff Mario

Agree with what everyone's said, paddock hill and Surtees are really tricky, and pretty much enough every corner is quirky in its own way. Sure it's not an F1 track, but I think it's perfect as a touring car track, same with Oulton park, the ideal Renault Clio playground.

@Pantheons I'm trying to learn more corner names, it's always frustrating when you're trying to tell someone about a particular corner, "you know the right hander after the chicane, no not that one, the one before the hairpin, no the other hairpin..." I don't think many will stick but it's satisfying when someone says "oh **** I binned it on paddock hill again" and I actually know where they mean :D

Great to hear everyone's thoughts on the ps5, I'm in the same boat, too much expense to justify just yet, I'm a terrible miser and usually wait till I can get second hand in CEX. By then there's lots of cheap games as well, £20 rather than £60. There's things that draw me to PC (I miss RTS games for example) and it sounds better for sim racing, but that's trading against the convenience, relative cheapness and console only games. Shame that project cars has gone down the arcade route now... we're on a 4 year old game now which is still brilliant but I don't see what's going to succeed it yet on next gen.

Sure knowing corner names can make it easier for you to talk about a track but it can get confusing also, when you meet that swiss-german friend that is fanatic about the Nordschleife and starts talking about how exciting it is to do Flugplatz properly, or how he loves the section between Bergwerk and Klostertal ... :irked:

However, being a Le Mans fan myself I can relate, I wouldn't be able to speak about the track without mentioning the names Dunlop Bridge, Tertre Rouge, Hunaudieres, Mulsanne, Indianapolis, Arnage, Maison Blanche (decades ago replaced by the Porsche Curves but still epic) and Ford Chicane.

(I refuse to mention the 1st and the 2nd chicanes up there with all those mythical names. They are anomalies that should never get their own names anyway :D )

Off on a slightly different tangent but keeping with the famous corner names theme.

The "endurance race" clue. Well more of a give away than a clue.

You asked for random weather!! (Well some asked anyway) :)

I've been experimenting with video editing. More practice needed!

Endurance racing with single seaters Paul? Talk about extreme ... :ill:
Well if we're going for it I thought we might as well dive straight in.

After a lot of testing with different machines I actually found the huge amount of grip makes them a very easy car to control and stop. Even in extreme weather, as in the video. They also have just the 1 tyre choice, slicks (no hards), which means I can run with default setups. Plus the noise they make will keep everyone awake. :P

Are we going to have damage on the endurance races? It sucks if you end up in an accident that wasn't your fault (he says like an insurance salesman) but it's also really satisfying keeping it on the black stuff when you have the elevated cost of mistakes.

Gotta say the weather effects are pretty awesome in this game!

If we're using cars with bodywork (prototypes, GT or Touring) my vote goes for Damage On (Performance Impacting, Full is too extreme). It makes the races more real and the immersion I get when I know a mistake can cost me is great.

However if we're going with singleseaters I say it will be better to have Damage Off

been busy today !

my lose wheel was due to the screw casting had broken, in the picture bottom of circuit board . the plate there had two holes not used so was able to put couple in, this was made easy by having the holes premolded in the plastic . you can see them if you look at the bottom where the cables clip in .
also wedged the lose rim and bit of super glue to stop the wobble ..
fingers crossed!

By the way in case you were wondering the endurance car is the Formula Renault. Quick but not too extreme.

Further to the above, ABS will be available if needed to help prevent the brakes locking. TC probably as well, although the rears very rarely break traction.

Are we going to have damage on the endurance races?
I'm still undecided. I think it'll probably be visual only for the open wheelers since I'd like everyone to not be put off by our first longer race and be able to complete the event. "Performance impacting" can cause erratically moving cars - not good appearing out of the (possible) fog! I've discovered that with just mechanical (not crash) damage enabled hitting the pit wall causes race ending failure. So that might just be off as well, we'll see.

I am thinking of limiting the view to the cockpit though to keep everyone roughly equal in what they are seeing in their peripheral vision. It's a good clear view with 2 mirrors. Some might need a little seat position tweak. So if anyone practice's try the interior views.

Some random weather makes it quite interesting I think because you can't plan or practice a race strategy ahead of time, you have to adjust depending on conditions. Change tyres, alter fuel loading, change fuel mixture, slow down! It can result in heavy fog with rain (in video) or even a thunderstorm but could just result in a clear day with sunshine. One thing I've noticed in testing is that it sensibly doesn't seem to have any snow or blizzards in a summer setting. Yet!

fingers crossed!
Yes indeed. Hope it all holds together. 👍

Some time spent in the editor has seen improvements in my efforts for my 2nd video. There's even music now!

A couple of scrappy laps around a damp but drying Brands indy in a Caterham 620 Racing. In the surprisingly not so arcade PC3. ;)

I had a huge save at Paddock hill on the 2nd lap! Not sure if I'd made it in the "normal" Seven.

@Napalm_LT - The very bottom option "speech to controller speaker" set that to OFF.

That will then direct the speech to your headphones/speakers instead of the controller speaker.
The messages can be turned off in the onscreen display options (I think that's were it is).

For reference here's the settings I'm currently using.
Project CARS 2_20210427194934.jpg

my current model has been working fine since I built it in 1975
Your contract has run out by now so you can probably upgrade. Technology moves on in leaps and bounds, possibly there might be a version with a longer string now.

I used to have that model but it proved to be a bit messy. Perhaps I should have taken the beans out before using them.

Anyones thoughts on the best 'sounding' car in PC2? and your favourite track?

This came to mind as we had a race a couple of weeks back (mid week) and the car (cant remember what it was now) just sounded hideous, was like a low throbbing noise, horrible. Would never pick it again ,if I knew what it was lol.

BTW i tried the laferrari the other day thinking of buying one, NOT) and it was good but stopping power (EDIT meant braking) was dreadful.
