ou're right. The grind may not be as bad as it *could* be. In much the same way losing both legs and arms isn't as bad as it could be.

At the end of the day, though, it's an unnecessary, artificial grind that the game can do - and most likely would be better - without.
Of course, I didn't say it was a terrific system. Just that it's no worse than other games in that regard considering how the most expensive cars only are at a bit over 1 million credits.

are, and how the gap between each Icon level increases by more than the .1% you get to upgrade your Follower booster by every three ranks. 'Splain dat.
There's nothing to explain, it's just a stupid system.

No. It is "an Ubisoft game" after all. You're getting just enough to taste blood, and that's it. The rest is microtransactions.
Alright, I get it. I just wanted to know before I decide to spend them all at once on something.

I don't get why anyone is grinding if they would rather not. Some people simply play games that way; some people want 100% everything (and that will naturally involve grinding in a game with this kind of scope). But unless you really want an Icon level reward vehicle like the LaFerrari, what is the rush? We're only two-and-a-half to three weeks yet into this MMO-like driving/racing RPG, with a large map to enjoy in Freedrive and who knows how much stuff in the pipeline for updates. Looking at TC1 as a precedent, I wouldn't advise burning yourself out on the game already.

From my experience, money is easy enough to come by; perf parts appear in Live crates in Freedrive, making it unnecessary to grind events for parts; and you collect followers constantly so you reach Icon in no time, to unlock all the events.

The only bad grind I see is that the Icon levels or the reward milestones are way too far apart, disproportionate to the other aspects of progression. I'm not very concerned about that myself because I'm not really gunning for any of the reward vehicles, but I do think that's something Ivory Tower should address.

I actually used them all on "visual" upgrades. :P
I just spent nearly all of it on a Maserati MC12 Corsa. :D
I've used this car in a racing game since Forza Horizon 1 and there's actually circuits in this game that I can practice it on.

This is the main issue with the grind. Yes it is nice to have something to strive towards, but the lack of rewards in between makes getting the Icon vehicles a drag. I'm getting shades of "Audi R8" in Midnight Club: LA vibes from the road to getting the LaFerrari. :ouch:

The best way to address the grind is to add community events with greater rewards, particularly more followers.

True, true, though really that says a lot more than industry these days than it does about TC2.

The grind for Bucks, as I've said before, is manageable. That one, I can deal with. The grind for Icon Points and Followers, at the moment, is just way off. Now, I'm not necessarily saying everything should be obtainable within a day or so - there are games that can afford to prolong their gameplay like this. The question I have is whether or not TC2 *needs* all of this. There's already Bucks and Parts.

If there's one thing I hoped the industry would learn from the Burnout Paradise remaster, it was that games didn't need to be artificially prolonged to be good. Paradise, if you remember, had basically 0 grindy elements whatsoever. That was all-in on gameplay. The absense of any grindy mechanics left you with so much more time to enjoy the game that was actually there, have online shenanigans with friends, and so on and so forth.

A game much like that is somewhere within TC2. The whole Icon Points thing just obscures it.

I feel like I'm much older than my birth certificate says I am.

After purchase of yet another Hyper car (my 8th one, but this one I'm importing my "Blu Miura Roadster" Aventador from GT Sport, here it is in The Crew 2), I've decided to put parts, then do Latrell's Car Pt. 1 on Hard as a test run for every new Hyper I buy and usually leave the AI in the dust.

Well, that did happen, but it's not important.

Bored, I took to my bucket list on what to get and that would end up being a new Motorcross bike. Well, off I go to the Off Roading HQ and..

Well, let's say I did more than just open my map. I decided to see what the game intends to do with a mostly empty open world by just driving there from LA to the desert. The GPS said 36 miles, and I have an Aventador, freshly tuned from the Pro Tuning menu, that demands quality time with me.

This is probably one of those times I never thought I really want to repeat. It kills time quite nicely, even though I don't require that to begin with. What's also quite interesting is that players come and go when I was at the barren locales where there's quite literally nothing to do.

This game really needs an event creator, something FH3 sort of has. These are nice roads, and this way's probably the only way I get to drive on them. And if you want a gist of what road I took, here:

Weird they didn't track the entire journey like I hoped they would. Maybe the next time I do an undertaking like this, there will be pictures.

Yeah, this game could really benefit from a event creator and a route creator. With this map, there's plenty of possibilities to be had here.

A tool to create events/routes and share them with other players is one of the top items on my wishlist. :)

On the subject of longer drives, I think the map is close to an ideal size to allow for a wide expanse and a very healthy amount of driving roads without being too time-consuming to traverse. I wouldn't recommend alternating between LA and NY as you check off street race events, but distances like Miami to NY? NY to Chicago? Chicago to Las Vegas? It doesn't take as long as many people might think.

Freedrive is the game's defining experience, IMO. You're missing out if you don't venture out into the "blank" areas of the map. :) Don't forget the rivers, too -- before the game came out I wouldn't have guessed there are narrow rocky passages, extra dams to jump over that don't feature in an event, and even rapids in some places!

I love going white water rafting in my Jet Sprint boats :)

well, in short. i have done the first two categories in each discipline, except touring cars, only half way through those. i am loving this game and see it having a much longer life for me than it seems for some of you. i still drive to almost all the events, saving fast travel for the most part to when i just want to get one more race in before shutting it off. it's not perfect, but the cruising in this game is a lot of fun, i really enjoy just cruising across the country in just about any of the vehicles. which is another thing, i love the boats and the planes. being able to switch so easily is also really nice.

the game has it's issues, but i am having so much fun i barely notice them tbh.

I found a Wangan loop. It's quite a interesting one. It's a great place to get some speed with sparce traffic.

TC2 Wangan Expressway.png

Figured I like to show it, and if you guys found the route interesting let me know.

Just went on it and I feel I've ventured on this before..

Oh! Heading west, this highway was covered by the "New York" Hypercar race (the 40 minute race that nets you an achievement for just winning it). When I drove on it at night (in game), the atmosphere was very Wangan-like, sans the forest background of course.

Nabbed a few night pictures of the place.

How did you get the tunnel shots. I tried to take pics in the tunnels a d the camera gets stuck....

Wait, that actually happens? I just took these tunnel pics like any regular pics.

Is there a specific tunnel you're trying to get a snapshot within?

Can't remember exactly. It was only two lanes though, maybe that makes a difference. I just remember the camera kept getting stuck and i could not get it anywhere close to where i wanted it

So many players want this. I think they will add it eventually. I hope sooner than later.

Just checked off the Skylines Photo Ops this morning. These are a good and fun way to get more followers and Bucks. I'm probably going to do all the Photo Ops before doing the Skills, then I'll 100% the whole game until Gator Rush.

Good luck with the ones needing other players, like.. that one with the monster truck close braking. Could never figure out what it means, or how to do it.

There's another one that requires the Camaro ZL1, but I need to be at Icon 100 to unlock it. Currently at Icon 39, so might put all my points in my follower perk to level up faster.

Well, wait till you see the Pro Line-Up album. It's got things that want you to spend. Doing things like take pictures of:

A Proto Offshore Mk2 (Icon 400, NPC is findable around where NPC Powerboats spawn),
An Alpha Mk2 (500k ish, NPC can be found around race tracks),
The Vulcan (screw Clarence),
A Zivko Edge race airplane,
The 488 GT3 (which I don't know if there's a spawn for),
A 2-powerboat scuffle which must include a Jaguar Vector V40R (probably NPC spawnable, this is a pretty common boat)

There are many photo ops i cant seem to get. None of the ariel pics seem to work and a few others that i guess i dont understand what they mean....

The aerial view batch is pretty simple if you know how.

Get on a plane, fly pretty vertically upwards of the track, and then when you're quite high, take out the camera and snap the picture of the track outline.

I found sometimes the photo op objective won't turn green if the zoom slider is too high or low, even if the photo subject is in the frame.

When you get the Helicopter, it's easier.

I got em all before I even got the helicopter.

But the helicopter is a godsend for some certain photo ops. Like the one that wants you to have a monster truck on a nuclear plant's cooler.
