Pros:
- Great car selection, it managed to extend the car selection in multiple categories over the first game.
- Being able to choose multiple avatars.
- More light-hearted tone is a huge improvement imo over the gritty and "edgey" storyline from the first game.
- It's more focused in the kind of game it wants to be. It has each vehicle type separated into 4 big categories rather than being all over the place.
- Money earning for cars is a huge improvement over the original. The fact you can even earn extra money on the side from taking pictures of animals and monuments is a plus. 👍
- The new vehicle types were an unexpected surprise, but I found myself enjoying them.
- I like the lighting more than in the first game.
- Great variety of events for multiple vehicle types. You can do tricks with monster trucks and airplanes, street race, circuit race, or race on the water.
- Improved driving physics, cars fell less likely to slip up and I feel I can be more precise with the driving this time around.
- I can adjust my driving setup, which is always a plus. Though I keep forgetting that I can do that, I've only adjusted my deadzone so far.
Cons:
- Rubberband AI annoyingly continues in this game and it's WORSE than the first game. It doesn't matter how much I upgrade my car, the AI will magically keep up. In which takes away the satisfaction and drive to upgrade the car. I honestly got really angry at some races due to this.
- The graphical textures for the world are at points a downgrade from the first game, something I found when seeing comparisons online. Not a big flaw with the game as I've spent most of my time driving around.
- Minor flaw: Unskippable cutscenes in the Xtreme Series events. I don't like having to sit through that cutscene over and over again when resetting a race there.
- Some of the features from the first game aren't present such as the PVP races. I also can't travel to any road discovered anymore like I could in the first game. On the bright side, I can still instantly travel to any event I want to in order to get somewhere.
- Loading times in some cases are kinda bad. For those big crashes along with going into photo mode; the load times are indeed longer than I'm used to. I think the game needs some optimization.
- I can't remap the control settings on my port of the game (Xbox One). I hear the PC version it can be done, so I don't understand why they didn't do it for the Xbox port aswell.
- The collision physics are inconsistant, I can easily get into a huge crash causing my car to b restart. However, the A.I. aren't affected when it happens to them.
Nitpicks that don't matter much (probably, I dunno):
- During sunsets in races, the sun gets in my eyes (like in real life) and makes if difficult to see what's coming.
- I don't think the shortcuts are easy enough to spot, I've skipped a few of them. Of course, that could have been because I gotten tired from playing the game for a long time.
- I don't like that some drag races are set on strips with curves.
Overall:
The game is still a big improvement over the first Crew, but it still has its own share of flaws that sometimes ruin the fun. Despite the flaws however, I still find the game to be a huge blast to play through. It's become a really addicting game to play, even with the limited number of cars I've been using. I hope that Ivory Tower in the future fixes some of these problems in later updates, but I'm still happy with the game overall. Though, I'm also glad I didn't pay extra for the gold edition. It's honestly not worth getting that imo. If I were to tell my friends about it, I would say by the standard edition to be safe or wait for a sale months down the line.
