The Crew: Wild Run Edition

So with the Steam sale, it's like $15... would this be a good game for messing around with modding/collecting cars and fun driving?
Once you beat the story, yeah. The story is pretty bad in my opinion. I've already reviewed this game nearly 1.5 years ago, back in January of 2015. The game is great, but the story is just plain and cliché. The voice acting is...questionable, too.
So to answer your question, yes it's a good game for messing around, but be prepared to sit through a boring story that overstays it's welcome by a good 10-15 missions.

On another note, folks on XBOX, I could use your help with Faction mission grinding. Please lemme know your Gamertags so I can add you.

I think you have me added.

In case not, my gamertag is Noob Saibot 007.

Ok question: what's up with the road in the middle of the meteor crater? I honestly don't know why it's here or the purpose of it.

Just got this via Games With Gold and not impressed so far, but will give it a chance. I guess I just don't like games where you are just thrown headlong into the action without getting a chance to get a feel for things, and I thought it might just be one episode like the start of Forza Horizon but no, I'm about three things in and it's still telling me to hurry here or there with a big countdown on the screen. So I am looking forward to when I can do things at my own pace, and explore the open world.

However...I would also like some more realistic collision physics rather than being able to smash my way therough every fence, lamp post, hydrant etc. pretty much unaffected. Open world can be awesome fun but at least give us some solid obstacles to dodge. I finished the first part when you are running from the cops in an F150 or whatever it is without really knowing what was going on and being able to speed through any terrain, including rivers. The steering is also soggy with no real feedback and the engine sounds are whiny and quiet...not impressed so far. Guess I'll be sticking to Forza Horizon and even Test Drive Unlimited for my open world driving fix.

It's no Forza and GT, but it's slightly more up than TDU.
While the first part getting into it right away it's kinda a tutorial to learn them, after that can just spend the whole time going to the West cost and etc without having to do one mission.
Sounds yes it could be better but it's Ubisoft not Sony/Microsoft.
There is some steering controls in the settings and if you have played Forza, go with hardcore.
There are plenty of objects to avoid, Mostly the random lane changing AI, other players randomly spawning in front of you.
There is some areas where the river is shallow enough to drive through.

You can't really compare a Realistic driving sim, (Forza/GT) to an arcade game (Crew/GTA/NFS). There will always be areas where the game shines and where it flaws.

Yeah I realise that in fairness, and haven't been a fan of NFS since the PS1 days for that reason. Forza Horizon I pitch somewhere in between the likes of this and NFS, and the simulators, but I would put TDU there too, it has more complex physics and consequences of hitting roadside obstacles that the Crew is lacking. Oddly I love really old arcade racers such as Outrun but perhaps because they don't look realistic either. Also found it really hard to see the road limits in The Crew, too much water reflection, glare and lack of detail, not to mention the countless floating neon icons etc. (it took me three tries to realise it was asking me to do some sort of slalom when I was on the way to see what was up with my brother).

Should add I'm not being a hater by the way, I want to like this a lot and love the open-worldness of it. Will certainly be giving it another try :)

90% of complaints are from people posting their first 20 min impression of this game while not realizing it's a CAR-PG. You level up your driver's skills with perks and you level up your vehicles as you would in any other RPG. It's been said a million times in this very thread. Please play the game longer than 10 hours before posting, complaining about the handling. Sorry if that came off as cranky, basically if you are just starting out, your car is a wooden sword right now and handles like a brick thrown through the wind. It gets better, much better.

I 100% agree with this. My review that I wrote back in December of 2014 was written 6 days after fully playing and finishing the story mode, and while I bashed the story and voice acting, my complaints regarding the handling were addressed with a nearly-fully upgraded spec car, not a low point car that you get right at the beginning.

And since the physics overhaul, the handling is way better than it's ever been. The story was ok, definitely passable if you've ever had to grind your way through TDU2's awful story and extremely bad voice acting "apparently the Wilder Brothers are squabbling with Stewart again" , those words I could go a lifetime without hearing again.

The driving game/RPG idea was certainly a gamble, it turned a lot of players off in the beginning. Most people just want to pick a car and expect it to handle like it should right off the showroom floor without any leveling business and I understand that, but if you can get past the initial cringe-worthy handling, upgrade your skills and vehicle, then a gem of a driving game awaits you.

After tomorrows server check might know what car we would have for the July summit.

It's worth pointing out that they toned down damage quite a while ago so that you could drive recklessly without so much impact (pardon the pun). This was based on user feedback at the time. I think with the nature of the game it was probably a good decision. I've played a lot of this in free roam exploration mode and have enjoyed it (while I was waiting for Project Cars too come out. I've only done a few of the missions though. I enjoyed the exploration side of the game.

Ah, that explains a lot: I've noticed a lot of awards and perks centred on repairing my car, but I've never had to do it yet. I did do it once just to see, but it was far from necessary.

I feel dumb for only just realizing this, but Games With Gold means I have permanent access to the base game! Considering Wild Run is on sale for another week, I'll definitely pick it up. The game is certainly worth $20! :P

New Qualifier and if you don't like bikes then you should skip this one.
Brand time attack, Speedtrap, Stunt race etc.
Only ones that don't have bikes for like Drag/monster/drift are not bikes and of course the skills. Rest are bike locked.

That isn't dumb really, some of the Games with Gold deals are time-limited from what I've noticed (like the EA free play days for example). I always check before downloading. Luckily The Crew isn't one of those '30 days only' games.

Regarding the Wild Run Expansion, I've never been one to buy all that much DLC unless it's a game really enjoy playing, and a game that I put a lot of hours into; then I can justify it. That being said, Wild Run offer so much fun and different ways to play that it's very, very worth it. At half price it's an absolute steal. The stunt arenas, long Jump skills (over Canyons, think Evel Kneivel) plus the addition of Bikes drift cars, Monstertrucks and Dragsters are worth it by themselves. In addition to all of that, you also get the Summit, which is a bi-weekly tournament with a end of month main summit event, every single month, where you are winning prizes, competing and having fun. The monthly prizes are usually new vehicles being added to the game like the Ferrari F40. Speaking of that....we should know what the reward car/bike for this month is very shortly.

Well we know it will be a Perf car.
Wonder if it will have Circuit.
Even better if it has like Street, Perf, Circuit, drift.

About to get the game but just wondering is getting the complete edition worth it for an extra £15?

Complete edition is All
The Crew Game
Wild Run Expansion
Season Pass
To me it is worth it since I guess the Mp4c is the best car in game that you can't get it without the season pass.

I got the wild run edition and I should of waited to get the complete edition.

When starting will it just give me all the DLC cars straight away or do I have to unlock them later on?
