How on Earth has this amassed almost 500 posts in 2.5 days?

When knowledge that is solid and verifiable for more than 2,000 years is suddenly contested as a conspiracy, we can safely say that humanity has failed. Honestly, one would think a clinical psychologist could explain why people feel the need to believe in such baloney.

It's kinda funny how the FEers have gone quiet since actual scientific data was dropped on this topic...
Yes, very true, and quite the sound bit of correlation and causation science there.

Though I can't remember who posted that data.....

Still, I saw it, and many others would have, so there's certainly no need for them to come back and narcissistically pat themselves on the back.

Is this the post with the data in question?

I would have said that because apart from the obvious, there's some people who legitimately haven't been exposed to the scientific method and it can take a while to explain and walk them through it. Not everyone has the benefit of good teachers at school, or a community that doesn't undermine common sense and clear thinking.

Sometimes people just believe silly stuff because they haven't been shown the other options properly.

Why would you do this?
Probably a rhetorical question but in case it's not, I don't know. The Mandela effect is as fascinating as the flat earth theory. I can't wrap my head around the idea that people are convinced that there is such an effect.

I'm not going to create this thread, maybe somebody else?

:D

I wasn't familiar with it so I had to look it up when you first mentioned it. I had a friend as an undergrad (also a geologist) who was smart as hell and I think he bought into this. We never called it the Mandela effect, but he mentioned that the whole "berenstain bears" thing. I was never sure if he was serious about it or not...

You mean Berenstein Bears?

I have a 40 year old nephew who recently announced his belief in flat earth. Although he is developmentally disabled and never graduated high school, he is smart enough to know the Earth is not flat. I have concluded he chooses to profess this belief as an act of defiance against authority in general. He has been in trouble with the law on numerous occasions, so this particular act of defiance comes at little cost. It is an act of free speech and self effacement.

I just don't like it. Even if they don't believe it, to me it is so offensive. Like really.

I would not care so much if FE didn't suggest that everything I study is wrong and I'm a moron.

It always feels personal. I'm sorry if I went overboard, but I can't help it. It will always get under my skin.

Oh, I get it. I thought I misspelled "Mandela" or Effect". But you were talking about Berenstein vs Berenstain. The "ein" version is the Jewish version.

That's two minutes I just don't have...
His ability to string together almost so many fallacies in such a short video while simultaneously satirising the love affair between certain hip hop artists and FE theory is pretty impressive, I thought.
