The Eliminati

Wow...after so many tries, I have now won an Eliminator 3 days in a row
It's a knowledge competition to a large extent, so you do much better the more you play it. There's one destination for the final race that caught me and most other people out the first time I encountered it, I named it the "you've been walled" race finish. 2nd time it came up, I was in some painfully slow car, driving along banging against the rev limiter, and the game must have been showing me as in last place pretty much right up to the point where I reached it and won while everyone else was stuck on the other side of the wall. I haven't played it since unlocking the Cougar, but it took me tens of games to get my first win, then I think I won 2 of my last 4.

One thing I've noticed, if you're in the final race and you're waiting for the 30 second counter to wind down, don't wait by the arena wall. Twice now I've had drivers ram me from behind to force me out of the arena and I was eliminated because there's no way to get back in the arena in under five seconds. Wait far enough back so you can't be forced out. I've taken to waiting right in the middle, then trying to time my exit so I leave the arena with under five seconds to go. I get a small head start and I don't get eliminated.

Did a very interesting race yesterday. Managed to get the Veyron somehow. The lv9 Camaro made me sweat a lot. However the last area was at the festival. I guessed the finish would be towards Broadway. Wasn't alone. There where another 2 lv10 cars, the
RJ Anderson and the AMG. I was impressed how much slower is the AMG compared to the Veyron and how good is the RJ who won the race by an inch. The finish line was right after the bridge near Broadway.
I named it the "you've been walled" race finish
I know of one that finish near the beach in Edinburgh. Won that one because apparently was the only one that checked the map. Was funy because 3 of them were parked on the other side of the wall 10 feet from the finish.

Sound like the speed zone area in Edinburgh that goes around the side of the hillside.

I'll be honest...my knowledge of the map isn't overly impressive as I struggle to remember the details of it. My wins were through pure luck: At the beginning I used to be around where everyone else was for the final race as I figured they knew more than me about where the final destination was so, if they were at X side of the final area, I would be too....one day I decided to hang out at the opposite side of the circle to everyone else because, why not? The final destination came up...and it was on my side of the map so I got a head start...didn't win but it made me wonder so I have done this ever since. My wins have happened because of this as, while it doesn't work all the time, I'd say it has been the case maybe 80% of the time.

I had the most amazing run with the Eliminator last night and this morning. I raced five times, won four and finished a close second the other time. I've never had a run as good as that before. The cars I won with were a Level 5 Ford Escort, Level 6 Audi, Level 7 Audi, and a level 8 Deberti Jeep. I especially liked the way the Jeep behaved over land. It's easily one of the most stable cars in the game. Nothing will knock it off course.

Something to be aware of: players are now working in teams to eliminate other players. The first player will initiate a race, then their buddy will harass you and block you, allowing the first player to win. So it you see two red dots on the minimap right next to each other and they're not racing, try not to engage them.

I just played Eliminator again after not touching it for months. Didn't have any ultimate winning or near-win experiences to speak of, but...

Well, I was checking the map after winning a head-to-head race, just to know how far I was from the circle. Then, I closed it and suddenly found myself being challenged by a level 9 Camaro ZL1. I was in a level 4 Supra. For a second I thought, that's it for me, I was done.

But then, I said to myself, hey, this is Eliminator, not a regular race! Being a bit unconventional wouldn't be too offensive, right?

So yes, I played dirty, and kept blocking the Camaro. The side of my car was pressing on the other player's front-right. It was on a normal asphalt route by the way, almost straight, not a scenario where going off road could give an advantage. Just before the finish, the other player suddenly hit the brakes. I didn't let go of the accelerator, and I spun out facing backwards. The other player somehow went off, smashed through a dry stone wall, and hit a tree. I simply decided to reverse into the finish line, but the other player recovered quickly, and overtook me inches before the finish line.

And...that just felt terrible

It's like I was missing out on what could be a very satisfying head-to-head win, despite the dirty method. On another side, I also felt like I could just decide to let him go and simply watch him disappear into the horizon, without the blocking shenanigans. That way, it would feel better.

...but...I can't possibly be the only person here who did this blocking thing in an underleveled car, right? :nervous:

For every time I've played dirty to beat someone, there have been times where I've crashed into someone who's hit a tree just before the finish line, thus pushing them over the line at my expense.

The more I play Eliminator, the more I just try to enjoy the experience and not worry about the competitiveness of it.

Say you’re in a nice car like a level 6 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and you come across a car drop with exactly the same car. Do you take it to prevent someone else from getting it, or is that just me?

That sounds like a nice idea in lowering your opponents' chances to win. I never even had that thought before...

But it's quite a rare occurrence for me myself to come across the exact same car drop when I'm already in a lvl. 6 (or above) vehicle.

Ever since I figured out that the car drops change with the arena shrinks, I cottoned on to the notion that if you take it, you prevent someone else getting it. So I'll generally take it, yeah. (I used to think that as soon as a drop was collected, another one would spawn).

Not only do you prevent another player getting it, but if the car drop is inside the next arena shrink, it stands a chance of respawning a new car drop.

By the way, this is my least proud moment as an Eliminator winner. There were only three of us in the final round. Which raises a question. What if you’re the last player but you haven’t gotten to the last round? Do you still have to keep playing? Or does the game immediately crown you the winner?

Oof, 7 players. I've had a couple of games where the player count was really low. I always feel like I should win the small-population games, but I usually end up fluffing it in some way.

Here’s one I can be a little more proud of. I grabbed this Level 8 Audi R8 almost immediately from a drop point in the river under the Glenfinnan Viaduct. Unfortunately, there was someone there trying to challenge me. I had to run halfway across the map, but I finally managed to shake them. But then someone else started chasing me. Then another. They just wouldn’t leave me alone. It was aggravating because my style is very non-confrontational. I like to hunt for car drops, grab what I can, and stay out of sight slipping into the final round unnoticed. Thankfully I managed to make it to the final round without having to face a challenge. The final arena was just east of the Horizon Festival. The finish was on the motorway inside a tunnel. Everyone took off in a straight line overland towards the finish. I went southeast to get on the highway going east out of Broadway. I then stuck to the road the rest of the way. I got to the flag inside the tunnel a few seconds before someone else who was coming the other way. I was in last place right up until I got in the tunnel. I’m sure everyone else was on top of the tunnel, not realizing the finish was under them. I’m a big believer in sticking to the roads if at all possible. It’s much faster, and there are very few obstacles to run into.

The finish inside the tunnel is fiendish. Possibly the most fiendish actually. (The one in the north-west corner of Edinburgh is a particular favourite of mine)

I also tend to prefer staying on-road in the final showdown. I have noticed that I almost never see other players checking the map. Once I get to within 2km, I like to have a look so that I can choose my approach angle. There are several final destinations where straightlining from the final circle is definitely not the best way.

Not as many people are playing Eliminator these days, but it’s still fun. Six of us in the final showdown. Starting from Edinburgh, southwest to a spot just uphill on the east side of the Derwent Reservoir Dam. I was was in a level 6 Bowler, positioned in exactly the right spot on the southwest edge of the arena. I took a quick look at the map, realized I should stick to the road for all but the last quarter mile, and then took off. Everyone else was behind me. We crossed the motorway. At the church near Fairlawn Manor, everyone else decided to straightline it across the map. I stuck to the road and won easily. It was a satisfying win.

I've been playing FH4 Eliminator a lot lately, after giving it up for a year. I played it in FH5 and it reignited my appetite. It's much better balanced in FH4, the map is a lot better suited to this game mode.

This is my latest win which I did without car drops, including beating a level 10 car with a level 4. There's still a lot of people playing which is great to see.

I like getting late knockouts right at the end when sometimes other players can be caught napping. I usually play aggressively and enjoy the gamble of seeing if I can win, even though I risk losing rather than if I just avoided others and waited for the final round which would be more sensible! It does cost me sometimes but I don't mind if I win or not.

Just had the smallest round I've seen yet, only three players from the start, I didn't even know it would start with so few. I found a level six car drop and won one H2H, and upgraded to the level 7 Porsche which is pretty weak and I was thinking I hope the remaining player doesn't have something better! Also the circle was around my least favourite part of the map for Eliminator, Edinburgh, which is easy to get lost on, I find.

So... I encountered the last player before the final round and he had a level 5 Ram which is a strong car. The final destination was towards Edinburgh. He had a small head start and it was hard to catch him, but he rolled over and I passed... but then got lost. We ended up being alongside with a few corners to go, I went the wrong way, he didn't, he won! Even after playing over 1000 rounds I still don't know Edinburgh well enough to not get lost sometimes. It was still fun though.

Pleased to get my 200th win tonight. I would have uploaded a video to mark the occasion but it turned out to be just me in a level 7 Audi against the level 4 Supra so it was no contest and not very interesting to watch. That's over 90 wins now this year since I started playing again. Next stop 300?

You don't see this very often... just found a level 10 car drop early in a round. It almost feels like cheating using this especially on snow.

I won with it but only by a hair against the only person left in the final round who had a Regalia D, which is nearly as good as the level 10 car in all honesty and imo should be at least level 8 rather than 6. Anyway up to 234 wins now.

edit - this is incredible, I found another one this evening. Level 10 drops are like lottery wins but I found two in one day, what are the chances?
