like the Oscar, Grammy, Billboard, Emmy, to name a few the Espy's lost its legitimacy a long time ago when ESPN decided that the award program would become another popularity contest. Its for this reason I hope the Laureus Awards don't go down this path.

Want to explain what Espy is, or start the OP with a capital letter at least? ;)

What is Lareus?

The ESPYs are ESPN's own sports awards that are voted on by the public, which goes as well as you would think. Among other things, this year LeBron James won the best performance in a final, despite being on the losing team and not winning the finals MVP award.

Laureus Awards are international awards and are independent of TV networks. They are voted on by a selected panel in a secret ballot and as far as I am aware are quite well respected by the athletes.

I did not watch this year because I am disgusted with thatthey gave the courage award to Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner. I have no issue with what he is doing, and I fully support it, but there are many more deserving candidates who showed real courage who weren't picked.

Public vote=popularity contest and nothing more. It's not a "most deserving" award, it's a "most popular" award. Don't forget though, it's not what "he" is doing, it's now what "she" is doing:sly:

I know, anatomically he will always be a he.

Which is meaningless, of course. I'm not advocating him for awards or public adulation (I won't state a wish to see the whole family detonated, but... yeah), just pointing out that you're confusing gender with anatomy.

But they are one in the same, according to every cell in his body, he is still a male.

No, they're not... "he" isn't the same as "male". Bruce Jenner's a good example of that. We're off-topic now, you should probably Google the difference and prepare to be amazed ;)

It was actually a good piece they did on [it].

But, yeah, the show was awful. Joel McHale and the other asian guy were pathetic.

It's basically just a cancer donation driver and awareness program. Everything else seemed silly by comparison. The features on Lauren Hill and Leah Stills were great though.

The fans didn't get to vote for this one. ESPN automatically chose Caitlyn right after the whole special on ABC

If you're curious why people believe Caitlyn Jenner is courageous despite her not displaying what you consider "real" courage, it's because of comments like these:
Nah, he's still a he until he gets his junk chopped off.

If your friend Robert asks to go by Bob instead do you insist on calling him Robert because that's what his birth certificate says? Do you make sly comments and sarcastically call him Robert?

I don't know Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner at all, but I'm guessing he/she would not be bothered in the slightest by those comments. If that's the worst he/she has faced, I'd say he/she's had it pretty easy.

Arguing about whether or not Jenner was a deserving recipient is not the same as your hopelessly misinformed "still a he 'til the junk is cut off" argument.
That is was a joke, but again, I have no issue with his decision, but if he still has male genitalia, he is still a male. But my issue is that he does not deserve to get that award.

Still nothing courageous there, certainly nothing deserving an award.

Also if the award was a plug or PR stunt then it means even less. Well, ESPN needs all the money it can get I guess.

You used "he" initially, not "male". You then said that they were the same thing thereby illustrating how poorly informed you are about the differences between gender and anatomy.

That image is false. There were no runner ups.

Interesting! You're absolutely right :)

Sorry I used the wrong word, I will try not to next time.

Do you not see what's courageous about being publicly trans, and the de facto public face of transgender people? Considering that even on GTP, one of the most civil discussion sites I've ever seen, trans women are called "he", and people still call her Bruce?

That's the point, that even on a site like this which is basically as good as it gets on the internet, people still can't just use the name and gender she identifies as. This is as good as it gets. I don't even want to imagine how bad it gets.
