I think VIPERGTSR01 might be onto something... how about New Zealand?
I don't think VIPERGTSR01 was referring to that equator. :sly:

Nice holiday, Famine and family. I'm awaiting the time that I can take my wife and kids on a nice trip, but as the youngest is 2 years old, it'll be a bit. Soon enough, though...

Sounds like you had a nice holiday! Wish I could go to the US for a bit. My Dad went to Las Vegas in 2005 and since hasn't stopped talking about it, which in turn makes me want to go....

And he just left for his trip to Turin which he is probably going to go on about when he gets back too!

Suggestions as to where we should go next gratefully accepted. It's highly likely our next trip away will a) be in July or August and b) not include mini-Cubicle so non-kid friendly locations are fine :)

Hey, stop by Michigan. Its pretty nice here over the summer, cheaper too since we're in a one-state recession.

I'd suggest checking out Detroit in August for the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise, or if you're willing to go a bit smaller, Grand Rapids (my neck of the woods) has its own event the week after.

...Plus, there is always Lake Michigan!

=====

Other than that, the "big ones" would be Chicago and Miami. They're my two favorite places away from home, and there is always a lot to do.

I'd vote for Miami. I love Miami.

I want to go back to Miami...........

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm amazed you thought people in Vegas were polite, but its been a while since I visited. I do clearly remember the hooker flyers though, my god they are every where. A lot to do in Vegas, even for those not of age.

The tax thing is just because it would be a huge headache to always display sales prices. Sales tax varies from county to county and even town to town. In general, taxes are within 1% of an average for a state. Washington is around 8%, but its a bit lower and higher in other counties, so driving all of 20 minutes can get you a 1% less in tax. And a lot of other things, like no emissions on a car or differences on firework laws and such.

If you are ever in the Washington (state) area, do announce it; there are some neat gems on both sides of the state.

If you going to south of the equator, may I recommend the Cook Islands?

Not wrong, they are everywhere! It's strange, one time I was there I had to walk through a underpass to get to the Excaliber and then the strip, you go from dirty smutty sections of the city with homeless, adult entertainment flyers, broken bottles and garbage all over the place to one of the fanciest flashiest places in the world.

Great write up, and fine pictures once again too 👍 And is that a Danoff I spot, too? First time I've ever seen a picture of the Rocket Man himself :dopey:

SH
Sounds like the Faminely had a good time
 Oh man, that's a pun and a half!

I saw that picture and instantly started thinking in the voice of Marlin Perkins. I could only imagine how he would describe a site as rare as this one.

Great thread Famine and thank you for sharing it with us.

Great account of your sunny hols, Famine! Looking forward to the next one, whenever and wherever it may be.

Party in the park :D
So, you're an actor from 24?! :D

Did you visit famous sites from television and movies?

:)

I could tell you, but DAMMIT WE DON'T HAVE THE TIME!

Did you visit famous sites from television and movies?

Of course.

Since we went into every casino we could, you can count every film made in/about Vegas ever. Including, but not limited to, Ocean's 11/12/13, Leaving Las Vegas, 21, Rush Hour 2, Domino, Honey I Blew Up The Baby, Swingers, Austin Powers, Con Air and Rain Man.

But there's also the odd location that crops up in films but not as Vegas. The one you can see in the background of the half-yard Daiquiri shot appears in one of the greatest films ever. Here's a better shot - guess the film:

(also currently appearing in the UK advert for the Mazda5).

I'll need some help from other GTP-members to guess from which film this is.

:)

They actually brush my knees. It's just 'cos I crossed my legses.

Anyway, they were too busy fawning over Rustle to notice.

Yeah, I'm just pulling your leg. Still, you can spot all the European (especially German) tourists by their shorts around here.

Looks like you had a great time.

Heh, that's probably valid everywhere in the US except Vegas - where the majority of people who saw him were also from out of town wearing their traveling shorts. :)

Yeah, that's quite true.

If you look really closely, you can see his pants ;)

That's not trousers, that's english for underwear. And ew at the male ones amongst you actually having a look!!

Not quite as south of the equator as he'd like, ;) but still Scotland made a cracking place for a vacation last September when we did our 4-day distillery tour (although it was 4C when we arrived in Inverness!

Brrrrrrr!)

I'm from Central Scotland myself where 4C is not freezing. -1 to -10C is the Usual winter temperature. It gets up to 29C in the summer though,

Don't come to Scotland on your honeymoon or vacation, it's drab, and plagued with enough foreigners, what about Maui? or Tahiti? what about Alaska, I liked it there!
