oh ya, you're right. A 800 hp monster built for high speed circuit racing would just dribble down the road like a lawnmower
 
no, but it wouldnt be easy to drive in bumper to bumper traffic would it, with that heavy clutch and stuff

because the speed 12 doesn't come with traction control, thats why...
yes it maybe the fastest road car, ON A RACING TRACK. but a wrx would kill it ON THE ROAD.

Were not discussing a car with good road manners, that can ferry kids to shool, were talking about the fastst road car. Also, you vote the R390 as the most practical supercar, wtf. Do you know what practicality is, the R390 has none of it, it's a great, car, very fast for 350Bhp and handles superb. But it's not practical, neithers the SLR really, but it's a damn sight more so than the R390 which is a stripped out road legal race car, and much like the 12, it wasn't designed for road use.

Well I've read this thread with interest, wondering if anyone would post any actual top speeds they'd manage to reach in their tuned up road cars...

...and more importantly, how many people would name the car I've found that (to date) IS the fastest road car of all...

...and the answer is... none of you!

Let's see... starting with the cars mentioned... I tested them all...

Firstly the R390 ROAD car... top speed... in the mid-290's. (MPH)Nice... but... not fast enough.

So how about... The Dodge Viper SRT-10..?

Again, around the mid-290's... likewise the Caddy Cien... Both good cars but... not quite good enough...

Now we're up to the really fast stuff...

The winner - TVR speed 12, right..? Erm... no. Does a creditable 303 MPH flat out, but it isn't the fastest...

So what is..?

Zonda C12S... One fine car... it does... 305MPH. And... loses.

Yep there IS a road car out there faster than all those... and if you played GT3, and tuned up all your road cars, you might have some inkling as to what it is...

In GT3 it was faster than a Toyota GT-ONE...

It is... THE LOTUS ESPRIT!

(This would be the silver one, with 50 written all over it BTW) :D

My one topped out at... 308 MPH. And it was still accelerating, it only stopped because it ran out of NOS (unlike the rest above which simply, had nothing left to give!)

Try it, and see... it is one seriously awesomely fast car :)

Unless of course... you know of a faster one... ;)
 
if you think the SLR isnt practical , you are seriously mistaken, go watch top gear. where he (jeremy) drives it to oslo. THE most practical super car IMO
 
im not trying to dog gran turismo because there are plenty of fast road cars but why dont they have some of the true fastest such as the mclaren F1, ferrari enzo, carrera gt, and the worlds fastest car with a top speed of 388km/h-thats like 240- the koenigsegg ccr.
 
The TVR Cerbera Speed Six springs to mind as a pretty quick car. It also has stability, something it's big brother Speed 12 doesn't.

It's still not that practical, practical is seating for 5 and still enough space to put the shopping and good economy. The SLR may be among the most practical of supercars, but it's still not that practical.

im not trying to dog gran turismo because there are plenty of fast road cars but why dont they have some of the true fastest such as the mclaren F1, ferrari enzo, carrera gt, and the worlds fastest car with a top speed of 388km/h-thats like 240- the koenigsegg ccr.

because other companies are stingy and dont want to give up the license for those cars...

Absolute rubbish...the SLR cannot do 0-200kph in 5.6 seconds...the McLaren F1 couldn't even do that
 
Ha, I never noticed that when I read his post first time round. It takes a lot longer than that to hit 200Kph.
 
My 10 fastest road cars are as follows :

1. Toyota Supra RZ 487 km/h
2. Nissan Skyline GT-R34 V-Spec 482 km/h
3. RUF Yellow Bird 480 km/h
4. Ford GT '05 477 km/h
5. Dodge Viper GTS 476 km/h
6. Lexus GS300 470 km/h
7. Mazda RX-7 Bathurst 466 km/h
8. Buick Special 466 km/h
9. Mercedes-Benz SL65 462 km/h
10. Lotus Esprit 350 460 km/h

There's no TVR speed 12 and many others aren't there because they are Special cars, W12 etc. These 10 are really a road cars :)

I will test these on Sarthe II and write up which one are really good to drive,
these records are made on Test Course with 2 laps

yes the TVr is a road car,( just watched the new top gear, LUFF the sagaris)

My fastest cars are the 05' Ford Gt (beats JGTC and DTM) Racers easily, the Cadillac Cien and the SRT-10 in that order
 
how much is a cien in the US?. go down to your cadillac dealer and take one for a drive and do a report for us!
 
I know a mazda 6 aint' going to be the fastest in the game, but I've got mine up to 580BHP and 220MPH.

Thats a fast mazda 6, shame they don't look as good as mine in real life! Sorry to anybody who owns one :)



Apart from that you can't beat stock cars like the Ford GT and the Cadilac Cien. Mega quick and I've kept them standard just like they are supposed to be. Did most races in the professional league in my GT, gets me 👍

What you need to ask, isn't weather you can buy one, but was the concept road legal? If it wasn't then the Cien wasn't a road car, if it was then prototype or not it's a road car. I don't know if it's road legal of not, some prototypes are some arn't. I doubt the Cien was though because it never got further than just a concept while the ME 4/12 was road legal.

Really, thats interesting. Maybe it is road legal then, even in movies if they're goig to film the car driving on a piece of public road then it has to be made road legal.
