The FIFA Bribe Scandal...

Also,

Let's see if it sparks something.

I think this is what caused Blatter to step down. 👍

Maybe the FBI can go after Ecclestone now that they ended Blatter's reign of terror before we lose every European GP left to us.
They can only go after him if he has committed a crime on American soil. They don't just go around arresting everyone who is unpopular

It depends on what you mean by 'American soil' - if it involves money laundering, tax evasion, and making illegal payments using US banks and institutions etc., then it probably still counts as being under the jurisdiction of the US. Vladimir Putin can call it US Imperialism all he wants, but in a globalized, electronic economy, it's presumably quite easy to commit a crime on US soil without ever leaving the comfort of your own villain's lair, sorry, room.

Yep, if you're stupid enough to use American financial institutions to commit fraud and embezzlement, don't be surprised to find American Feds becoming interested in you.

Doesn't change the spirit of my post - the FBI can only move on Ecclestone if there is evidence Ecclestone has commited a crime within their jurisdiction. Ecclestone might be unpopular, but that doesn't make him guilty.

As I understand it, FBI have jurisdiction if an American bank is involved in any way (including being an unwitting conduit) or if any e-mail communication has passed through a server on US soil.

It's a pretty wide remit!

Oh I see, I was clarifying why Blatter was involved. Simple case of crossed lines, sorry.

Of course Ecclestone is a totally different matter. No use of American banks by him yet.

True... however I think Andrea was probably joking about Ecclestone.

INTERPOL issues Red Notices for former FIFA officials and executives wanted by US authorities
LYON, France – At the request of US authorities, INTERPOL Red Notices – or international wanted persons alerts – have been issued for two former FIFA officials and four corporate executives for charges including racketeering, conspiracy and corruption.

The Red Notices have been issued for;

  • Jack Warner, Trinidad & Tobago national, former FIFA vice president and executive committee member, CONCACAF president, CFU president and Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) special adviser.
  • Nicolás Leoz, Paraguayan national, former FIFA executive committee member and CONMEBOL president.
  • Alejandro Burzaco, Argentine national, controlling principal of Torneos y Competencias S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates.
  • Hugo Jinkis and Mariano Jinkis, Argentine nationals, controlling principals of Full Play Group S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates.
  • José Margulies (also known as José Lazaro), Brazilian national, controlling principal of Valente Corp. and Somerton Ltd., broadcasting businesses.
Red Notices are one of the ways in which INTERPOL informs its member countries that an arrest warrant has been issued for an individual by a judicial authority and seeks the location and arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition or similar lawful action.

The individuals concerned are wanted by national jurisdictions and INTERPOL’s role is to assist national police forces in identifying or locating those individuals with a view to their arrest and extradition.

A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant, and INTERPOL cannot compel any member country to arrest the subject of a Red Notice.

INTERPOL’s General Secretariat does not send officers to arrest individuals who are the subject of a Red Notice. Only the law enforcement authorities of the INTERPOL member country where the individual is located have the legal authority to make an arrest.

Chuck Blazer, former FIFA bobo, has declared that the WC of 1998 and 2010 were given to France and South Africa after numerous bribes went everywhere.

And the same goes for the Gold Cup tournaments of 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2003. Not only was the dirty money for the bids, but also for the TV rights.

PDF full of accusations

It's pretty obvious Blatter knew about all this. Every single bobo close to him is now a suspect. I hope he gets convicted and spend his last days in jail.

What a sleazy, corrupt, back door dealing, governing body. Such a shame for world football....such a shame.

Well to all them people who dislike football you can thank FIFA now for making us all look like mugs. We all love this sport and at the head of the sport is such a massively corrupt company. We all knew there was some going on, but not to this extent.

I wonder how far back you have to go to find a bidding process with no bribery. It turns out that even my favourite tournament, France 98, was rigged.

One of our commentators made an interesting observation today - that it's little wonder that developing countries are paying bribes to host World Cups. Visitors to Brazil paid, on average, US $2500 last year, which means massive economic boosts on a local level. Given the sheer influx of cash into economies that a desperately in need of a leg up, all of these countries want to get involved.

He has 'avalanche' of evidence against FIFA despite being completely innocent a few days ago.

"I'll tell all about FIFA corruption, for a $5 million fee paid into this Swiss bank account."
What are the chances? I'd say they were pretty high... the game is officially up, and now Warner has turned against Blatter and FIFA and will probably try to turn himself into a whistleblower. Earth to Jack Warner: you can't be a whistleblower once the game has already finished you complete cretin. I hope he's first in the dock.

If Warner was smart, he would have quit upon hearing rumors about the DOJ investigations of FIFA and became a whistleblower then. The US might give him a little leeway for cooperating, but it's still too little, too late for him. He should have helped sooner instead of helping now because he knows he's done for. He's probably only helping to try to get some prison time lopped off his sentence when that comes to him.

Warner says he has evidence that Blatter knew about the financial mishaps.

He wants to come clean because he truly fears for his life.

It would be exceptionally funny if all of the sudden the suspects start to disappear.

This is an interesting viewpoint. Former MLS star (and US National Team star) Landon Donovan shared a little of bit of his conversation with John Ondrosik from the band Five for Fighting. It also has some funny BS, too. I'll put in a spoiler to keep it from becoming a wall of text. I found it interesting that he said he had a bad feeling about some of those who got caught.

The president of the FAI, John Delaney, confessed that the Irish federation received money to leave the lawsuit filed by the incident of Gallas goal with the hand of Thierry Henry in the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup.
